I am trying to download the fastcgi module to run with zope but www.fastcgi.com seems to be down. Can anyone point me to another site?? I hope this question is appropriate for this newsgroup. A Suitable RDBMS?

Hi, I saw a posting today that MySQL was not recommended as an RDBMS for use with Zope. I'd like to use and external database for storing customers' price lists and product galleries; what (preferably free :) database would people recommend? What are the pros and cons of each? UserDB, IE5, @Home Problem

I am having trouble with userDB cookie authentication in IE 5 through the @Home network. Apparently @Home uses a proxy server for all of their traffic. When accessing the docLogin page for authentication the user receives a "Cannot Display This Page" error from IE 5. Turning off cookie-based authentication seems to solve the problem. This problem does not occur in Netscape under the same conditions and does not occur in IE 5 when used outside of the @Home proxy. Does anyone know of specific problems with IE 5 and proxy servers? Is there any solution outside of using standard authentication?

simple iteration question

Can someone point me to how do a simple loop given a variable which indicates the top limit of the loop. Creating sequences

I know that you can use the dtml-in tag to iterate over a sequence, but I want to know how to create a sequence? If, for example, in Python I had: foo = [1,2,3] What would I have to do to get a sequence like that accessible from Zope? My experience with SyBase is that the adapter development is kind of slow, and only Linux platform is supported. And currently it has some glitches with some data types (decimal with 10 or more digits), it does not support stored procedures, and the implementation in Zope 2.1.4 crashes when you have date fields ending between 59 and 60 seconds (e.g: 59.23 sec). Also, when there is database problem, the adapter very often just hangs and lock the database out, requiring a Zope reboot. So, SyBase in Zope is not really in great shape. I don't know about other databases, maybe other database adapters have problems, too. SyBase adapter is workable for me (after I patched the problem areas), just not that great in its current shape. It has transaction, though, which you definitely want. Does anyone know what the issues with this are? >From memory I think the non-thread-safeness of the odbc drivers themselves was not the only problem. I suspect the python odbc interface might have been not thread safe also. Can anyone confirm this?

If a product takes a few days to install, if a product locks newbies up and send them into panic attack, it has problems. Please just look up past postings in the mailing list... headers like "Bad... very bad" and "GenericUserFolder has locked me out" are just heartbreaking. :) If I have time I'll find something better, or make something better. :) Evan: (1) When the the next version of Zope coming out? meaning error message

My postgres database tables are setup to have unique index therefore no duplicates are not allow. If duplicate occur the db will return an error. Problem is when i try to submit duplicate data to the db i get an ugly error message. Is there anyway i can output my own error message for example "this data exist on the db already, please do not submit again" ? I don't want that error message because user's won't understand what is talking about. thanks.

DateTime exceptions

Greetings, A workmate of mine has had this problem also, and now it's happened to me. I cannot catch exceptions from the DateTime object! My code: <dtml-try> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('delDate','%s/%s/%s' % (delYear, delMon, delDay) )"> <dtml-except> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('delDate',0)"> <font bgcolor="red">You have entered an invalid date.</font> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('Error',1)"> </dtml-try> Now, from my understanding, this should catch ALL exceptions. So why, when i give invalid values (like -1) does ZOPE give me an error page? Is this some deficiency in the way the DateTime object handles exceptions?
