FYI: Potentially speaking at BALUG next Tuesday
by Paul Everitt 14 Mar '00

Howdy sports fans. If the San Francisco traffic doesn't double cross me, I'll be speaking at the Bay Area Linux User's Group meeting next Tue, Mar 21. The complication arises because I'm speaking down in San Jose at SDWest from 5PM-6PM, then have to hurry back to hopefully make the BALUG meeting. Unfortunately I don't have a URL handy for time, location, etc., but I'll try and post it when I'm back in the office. The subject of the talk is, well, Zope, plus a Big Announcement. --Paul

I'm pretty sure now that async_loop is not exiting in my child process so I'm guessing it is some other type of abort. I'll try the gdb avenue. I'm pretty handy with that, but I've never done much debugging python or threaded apps so.... I also grepped around the code and looked over every 11, sys.exit and SystemExit I could find. This is a real pain. -Jon Michel Pelletier <michel(a)digicool.com> writes: > Jon Prettyman wrote: > > > > I've been reading through code trying to figure out what is going on > > here, where this message might be coming from. More Z SQL head bashing...
by Chris Withers 14 Mar '00

14 Mar '00

Hi, Well, further to my earlier SQL post, here's the code I'm trying to encapsulate, but it doesn't work ;-) The problem is one of getting a unique, integer, id from MySQL to use as a primary key for an INSERT. And no, an AUTO_INCREMENT column won't help here 'cos I need to know what the number is before I do the insert (it generates a reference number, which is used as the primary key, and needs to be given back to the person doing the submission...) Anyway, here's the Z SQL Method Code which goes into a MySQL DB connection: SELECT COUNT(*) as exist FROM sequences WHERE sequence=<dtml-sqlvar name type=string> <dtml-var sql_delimiter> <dtml-if "exist==0"> INSERT INTO sequences SET sequence=<dtml-sqlvar name type=string>, n=0 </dtml-if> <dtml-var sql_delimiter> UPDATE sequences SET n=LAST_INSERT_ID(n+1) WHERE sequence=<dtml-sqlvar name type=string> <dtml-var sql_delimiter> SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() as number When I try to test the method, I get a NameError for exists, which I presume is coming from the dtml-if. Any idea what I'm doing wrong or other ways of solving this problem? cheers, Chris

sub-transaction in DTML?
by Jay, Dylan 14 Mar '00

I have a method that takes a long time on a system that uses a level 2 DA, therefore it blocks the entire site (it also uses UserDB so everything uses the DB). How can I put sub-transactions in my DTML to give others a chance to use the site?

I've been reading through code trying to figure out what is going on here, where this message might be coming from. My current train of thought is that the 11 exit code being seen is in z2.py is a result of sys.ZServerExitCode getting set somewhere and z2.py exiting with that code. So I've been trying to find where code sets sys.ZServerExitCode and what I've found is in ZServer.HTTPResponse.ChannelPipe.close. In this routine, the value of self._shutdown is assigned to r which then gets assigned to sys.ZServerExitCode. It looks like self._shutdown only gets assigned when ZServer.HTTPResponse.ChannelPipe.finish gets called and a response header contains an bobo-exception-type of exceptions.SystemExit. So I'm guessing now that somewhere this exception is getting set but I can't seem to figure out why. Am I completely off base here? -Jon Michel Pelletier <michel(a)digicool.com> writes: > Hmm, a simple test script seems to indicate that sending a child process > a signal 11 does not cause it to dump core. httpd.conf HELP! please
by Sachin Shah 14 Mar '00

14 Mar '00

Good evening. We are a student group here at University of California, Berkeley, and for the past couple of months we have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get Zope to work with Apache properly. (We are Residential Computing, a group which provides connectivity and support to the residence halls at the UC Berkeley.) The situation is as follows: Right now, apache has been configured to pass all requests to zope.cgi except for our personal pages (/about/staff), which a rewrite rule is directing to a static file system location. Our problem lies in an internal section of our site. We call it /internal/. What we are having problems with is getting Apache to authenticate the user BEFORE it redirects to /internal/ in Zope. The other snag: everything under /internal/ is under SSL. One area where we are not certain is if the require user authentication specs should be in LOCATION tags or DIRECTORY tags. In addition to advice, if you have a similar set-up we would really appreciate a snap-shot of your httpd.conf. I have included snippits of out httpd.conf file below. To summarize what I'm trying to do: <dtml-in "_.string.split(string_with_1_or_more_words)"> <dtml-if "we_have_>_1_items"> we have <dtml-var what_is_this_var?> items <dtml-else> we have only 1 item </dtml-if> I can do the > 1 check with <dtml-if "_.len(_.string.split(string)) > 1">, but it seems I should be able to get to a count-nnn var inside. Since I'm not using a SQL statement, I don't know what the variable is named. sequence-size give a name error wherever I use it (from the test screen of a SQL query). <dtml-var sequence-key> returns the fist digit of the word. So, the question is, in the statement: <dtml-in "_.string.split('item_1 item_2 item_3')> what will the count-nnn variable be named?

ZSQL Method Question
by Chris Withers 14 Mar '00

Hi, Is there any way you can pass the connection to be used by a ZSQL Method as a parameter? I'd like to encapsulate some SQL stuff in a method where the only thing that changes is the database connection the method is performed on. cheers, Chris
