Is it at all possible to have this list set reply to? since problems discussed and solved here are logged for others to search, surely it would be best if, by default, replies to these messages came to the list? I know it's just a little thing, but it still bugs me. I know that on other lists to which I subscribe this is done. Anyone else have an opinion on this? -- Have a better one, Curtis. <dtml-var standard_work_disclaimer>

setting a DTML method's namespace from a product method
by gyst＠nfg.nl 04 Mar '00

04 Mar '00

I'm having some troubles with manipulating the namespace of DTML methods that are called from methods of product instances. Some questions: - How do I provide a DTML method with a full acquisition namespace, as if it were called in DTML, when I call it from a product class method? - Does a REQUEST.set(somevar, somevalue) operation add a variable to the namespace, or does it re-initialize a new request? I can hardly imagine the latter. - Does the local scope of a class method in a product somehow propagate itself to external DTML methods that are called from that class method? Context of my problem: My product has the following class: class NFGnav( OFS.SimpleItem.Item, Persistent, Acquisition.Implicit, AccessControl.Role.RoleManager ): which ultimately calls a DTML method: return self.NFGnav_ActiveMapItem(REQUEST) I can set arguments for the DTML method, no problem: REQUEST.set('NFGnav_ItemTitle', object.title_or_id()) before calling the DTML method works just fine. However, the DTML method seems to lose it's acquisition context in the process. That is, if I define an 'myimage' instance somewhere higher up in the site hierarchy, I get KeyErrors if I try to call <dtml-var myimage> from the DTML method. Funny thing is, if I request the URL of the product instance with the 'myimage' appended, this seems to have no problem: /mysite/somefolder/ProductInstance/myimage returns the image, whereas /mysite/somefolder/ProductInstance/someMethod/myimage gives a KeyError. So the aquisition context seems to be intact at the product class level, but not at the product class method level. I took care to provide (PARENTS, REQUEST) parameters for every class method invocation, by the way. I'd appreciate any suggestions in tackling this problem. Is this question more suited for the zope list or for the zope-dev list, by the way? Source for the product is available at http://www.zope.org/Members/gyst/NFGnav :*CU# -- *** Guido A.J. RE: [Zope] Zope DHTML and XHTML : Moving things to the Client-sid e

As has been revealed in several discussions before, it > would be very > limiting for DTML to force compliance to XML (dtml tags > inside html tags, etc) I have not followed the discussions you're referring to, so this may be old news to you, but one simple way to provide XML compliance without screwing up the HTML is to require that the HTML -- or whatever you're rendering -- must be properly UTF-8 encoded. This is probably the least painful way of attaining XML compliance. Unfortunately, it *will* be painful unless you're also using an XML-compliant editor. The low-level DTML source will end up looking a bit like this: <html> <head><title><var name="title_or_id"/></title> </head> [...] </html> The editor takes care of the en-/decoding of character entities. An obvious alternative is to use XHTML and XML namespaces, which would currently -- because clients aren't usually XHTML-aware -- incur additional XHTML-to-HTML processing on the server side. -- Alexander Staubo http://alex.mop.no/ "What the hell, he thought, you're only young once, and threw himself out of the window. That would at least keep the element of surprise on his side." --Douglas Adams, _The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy_

Using Zope as a mailing-list manager
by Ian Sparks 04 Mar '00

04 Mar '00

Hi, This question may be very naive but is there any way to use Zope as a mailing list manager? The sort of thing I want to do is : 1. Check a mailbox for messages. 2. Grab any that are related to my Zope WebApplication 3. Process each message "request" depending on its content. 4. Send one or more email replies to one or more recipients (easy with what is already in Zope). This might allow me to create a simple list manager for instance or allow a virtual mailbox for all my WebApp members. - Ian Sparks.

y2kbug - bobobase_modification_time one day back
by Wolfgang Strobl 04 Mar '00

04 Mar '00

This ist a typical Y2K bug, located in the module TimpeStamp.c, as I suspected earlier. Since nobody followed my hint from earlier this day so far, I took the opportunity to dig a little deeper, learning how to build and replace a python extension on the way. Given how little documentation there is, I don't claim having understood anything about, but noticing that the function static double TimeStamp_abst(int y, int mo, int d, int m, int s) gets called with y=100 (not 2000), changing the leap yar calculation l = y%4==0 && (y%100 != 0 || y%400==0); to l = y%4==0 && (y%100 != 0 || (y+1900)%400==0); in that function fixed the problem on my system. DTML Document at /y2k / t <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <p> This is the <dtml-var id> Document. </p> <dtml-var "bobobase_modification_time()"><br> <dtml-var "_.DateTime()"> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> renders as This is the t Document. 2000/03/02 23:13:8.393 GMT+1 2000/03/02 23:13:54.619 GMT+1 now. The complete function from ZODB/TimeStamp.c in context: -------------------------------------------------------- static double TimeStamp_abst(int y, int mo, int d, int m, int s) { int l; l = y%4==0 && (y%100 != 0 || (y+1900)%400==0); // y2kfix ws 2000-03-02 // was l = y%4==0 && (y%100 != 0 || y%400==0); return (TimeStamp_yad(y)+ joff[l][mo]+d)*86400 + m*60 + s; } -------------------------------------------------------- Hope this hilft. :-} -- Wolfgang Strobl

'helper' classes in External Methods
by Tony McDonald 04 Mar '00

04 Mar '00

Can someone give me a pointer to what these helper classes actually do? Can I use them to setup lists and dictionaries that will be used over the lifetime of the Zope server? This is an example from an external method that Pavlos posted a while back. class MCQ: ''' helper class for MCQ system''' def __init__(self, score): ''' constructor''' self.score = 0 self.total_score = 0 What I would like to do is load up a template_lookups dictionary with quite a few entries; for template_id in self.Actors.RENDER.objectIds(): renderer = eval("self.Actors.RENDER.%s" % template_id) template_lookups[template_id] = renderer Thing is, I need access to the ZODB in one of my methods later in the module and so the above code doesn't work (too many 'selfs'!). Anyone got any ideas? tone. ------ Dr Tony McDonald, FMCC, Networked Learning Environments Project http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/ The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 222 5888 Fingerprint: 3450 876D FA41 B926 D3DD F8C3 F2D0 C3B9 8B38 18A2

Dealing with Dictionaries
by James W. Howe 04 Mar '00

04 Mar '00

I have a DTML method from which I want to answer a dictionary. It looks something like this: <dtml-return "{'foo':'bar', 'biff':'boom'}"> I want to be able to use this information in two different ways. First, I want to be able to get a list of keys from the dictionary. Second, I want to be able to get a list of values. I could easily do this in Python, but I'm sure there must be a simple way to do this in DTML. I tried something like: <dtml-return "_['dictionaryVariableName'].keys()"> but that didn't work. I did notice that if I just used "_['dictionaryVariableName']" I actually got the keys. Basically I'm trying to create a system by which a user can enter a full string and an abbreviation for the string. I want to be able to produce a list of the full strings, and I want to be able to produce a list of the abbreviations. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. James W. Common GenericUserFolder problem ...
by Darran Edmundson 04 Mar '00

04 Mar '00

Hi All, I bashed my head against GenericUserFolder for three hours tonight trying to get the simplest of scenarios up and running - no luck so I'm turning to the list for help. My exact problem shows up in the archives with advice from Zen: >>got the simple login screen. I entered the values 'jorge' for the username >>and 'secret' for the password. When I pressed Ok, I didn't see the >>index_html file for the folder, instead I got the login screen once >>again. Can someone help me out with some ideas on what I might have done >>wrong (or not done at all?) >Sounds like you havn't granted permission for user jorge to view the >documents. Simple way to test this is to edit userRoles so that >jorge is a member of the Manager role. I've done both this and explicitly returning _.int('1') in the userAuthenticate method. Same problem. Turning debug on in the GUF source yields: 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF URL is http://127.0.0.1:8080/Test2 in validate ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 INFO(0) GUF Successful authentication for user ost124 (http://127.0.0.1:8080/Test2/acl_users) ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF gufid = ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF URL is http://127.0.0.1:8080/Test2 ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF Returning ost124 from http://127.0.0.1:8080/Test2/acl_users validate (roles=('Anonymous', 'Manager')) ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF URL is http://127.0.0.1:8080/Test2 in validate ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF Failed to authenticate with http://127.0.0.1:8080/Test2/acl_users - crawling up ------ 2000-02-29T13:30:46 PROBLEM(100) GUF Failed Authentication with http://127.0.0.1:8080/acl_users As the user is explicitly given the manager role which has all possible permissions checked, how can I possibly fail authentication?
