Creating a "list of strings" from DTML-Method?
by Soren Roug 23 Feb '00

23 Feb '00

I'm working on a product where I want to create a property that is a selection and allows you to select between a list of folders created in the parent folder. When you add a property in the property sheet the text directly above says: | |For "selection" and "multiple selection" properties enter the name of |a selection variable |in the "Value" field. The selection variable is |a property or method that returns a list of strings from which the |selection(s) can be chosen. | After fiddling around a bit I realized that the only methods that qualify are Z SQL methods. That's not what I'm looking for. Does anybody know how to do this with a DTML method or has anyone subclassed the DTML method to a class that returns a list of strings instead of rendering the text? So I take them out and leave them by >themselves. Apache restarts, but when I try to go to the path I get a >'Document contains no data' message. Here's what I am doing on a testing server which might help you. The apache server is on port 80 at gynzer.yyy.xxx.com (Internal Intranet ... ) Zope is running at gynzer.xxx.yyy.com:8080 Virtual host is at an address with a DNS entry of rlgtest1.yyy.xxx.com I want rlgtest1 to actually point to the /PPEGroup/MES directory in Zope Here is my Apache Entry <VirtualHost 170.73.133.190> ServerAdmin rgines(a)xxx.com ServerName rlgtest1.xxx.yyy.com ProxyPass / http://gynzer.xxx.yyy.com:8080/PPEGroup/MES/ ProxyPassReverse / http://gynzer.xxx.yyy.com:8080/PPEGroup/MES/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://gynzer.xxx.yyy.com:8080/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://gynzer.xxx.yyy.com:8080/p_ </VirtualHost> Note: the last two lines are necessary to keep the graphics and misc internal links working properly. So that /PPEGroup/MES really does look like the root of server rlgtest1, I am using SiteAccess to fake it out ... the jury is still out as to using this or not. It has good points and bad points to using it. Depending on my mood for the day I seem to sway back and forth between using it or not. I hope that this helps.

Depending on your (John's) time frame, the Portal Toolkit (http://www.zope.org/Products/PTK) is aimed directly at your problem. It will have a framework in place for extensible User objects, with your choice of storage formats (local password file, RDBMS, the ZODB, LDAP, etc). In particular, you will be able to associate additional data with each user. The PTK already looks good, and is progressing nicely. The "extensible user" features should be available very shortly. ZopeFind() problem
by julio dinis 23 Feb '00

23 Feb '00

Hi All! I have a structure(directory) of Categories and links based on the product Zlink and populated with a dump from dmoz. I made an external method using the OFS.FindSupport's function "ZopeFind()" to find Pending Links,i.e, links that have a property with value "off". The script worked okay. Basically I'm doing the same thing the "Find Items to This Catalog" in ZCatalog product do. I search for the objects and instead of catalog I show them to the user. The problema is that now the script is no longer finding the links that are in subdirectories but only on Top ZLinkFolder. I thought something was wrong with my script but then went to a Catalog to use the "Find items to ZCatalog" and the result was the same, didnt found objects in subdirectories, with the mentioned property==off that I put in the obj_expr argument. I have installed another instance of Zope and export/import the structure and the product I'm using into this new zope, and voilá it works!! But on my original site dont work. The only thing I did was a pack to the database. Can that delete some information needed for the ZopeFind()? Any help? indexing to catalog from external method ?!
by Geir B Hansen 23 Feb '00

23 Feb '00

hi My Python skills are still not to good, but i am slowly learning.. I am adding DTML-documents from a filesystem to the ZODB by the means of an external method (a modified fsimport.py), but the documents do not get indexed in my catalog.. reindex-object would work inside DTML, but if i understand things right aqquisition doesn't work in external methods, so the catalog wouldn't know the path to the object.. is this right ? how do i get the documents indexed ?? thanks -- Geir B Hansen web-developer/designer geirh(a)funcom.com http://www.funcom.com

Gadfly databases syntax
by Pedro Silva 23 Feb '00

23 Feb '00

Hi, I'm using a Gadfly database connection to create Z SQL Methods. This is the first time that I'm using this, and because I know a little of SQL, it seams that are some differences between Ansy SQL and Z SQL. Now, I'm trying to create a table with the following code: CREATE TABLE registos( id INT, nome VARCHAR(10), apelido VARCHAR(10), morada VARCHAR(50), localidade VARCHAR(30), casa INT, telemovel INT, data_nasc VARCHAR(10) ) When I push the button "Change and Test", it shows a message "The query requires no input". Then after I push the "Submit Query" button, it gives me a Syntax Error, so I figure that only could be the syntax that this SQL use is differente from the normal SQL. Could anyone tell me the diffrences and/or tell me where I can go to see the differences? Please send your answers to: psilva(a)ruido-visual.pt Thanks, Pedro PS - I'm sending to you too, because I know that you must know something about this and would be quicker, I hope!!!

I've got those ZCatalog sort_on blues ...
by Darran Edmundson 23 Feb '00

23 Feb '00

It's getting late, the concrete wall beside me, formerly white, is now stained with the mushy red-purple pulp of my brain. I've invoked every diety I can think of and, on behalf of Canadians everywhere, apologized on usenet for both William Shatner and Bryan Adams, but to no avail ... Some of my ZCatalog searches are not working with the sort_on keyword. Consider: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('semlist', seminarCatalog(Date=ZopeTime(),Date_usage='range:min',sort_on='Date'))"> and <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('publist', publicationCatalog(Authors='Kivshar',sort_on='Year'))"> The first works, the second only returns entries if I remove the sort_on='Year' parameter. So what about this second case: 1) entries exist because I get them if I remove the sort_on. 2) Year is a valid index (integer type) and meta_table entry. I am pretty sure it is a FieldIndex because I create it programatically: <dtml-with "publicationCatalog"> <dtml-call "manage_addIndex('Year','FieldIndex',REQUEST,RESPONSE,URL1)"> </dtml-with> Right now much of my site is buggered because I can't sort the results of catalog searches. Any suggestions are appreciated. Cheers, Darran.
