syncing zcatalog
by - 10 Feb '00

hi all, how do we keep zcatalog in sync so that searches will not return random numerical key error. we now update manually each time we discovered key error. if there's no common solution, we may have to set up cron and update at a fixed interval. another questions is: is it true that after zope runs for a while ( in my case, 8 days running), zope tends to get slower, or is it my imagination. when i restart the zope process thru the management interface, i sense that it responds faster. can any guru clue a newbie here? tia -- ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?

Two questions...
by Guy Davis 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

1) Given a ZSQL method that takes one arguement (a primary key) how can I pass that information on from where I call the ZSQL method with <dtml-in> i.e. In a DTML method, what comes just before this line if I know that login is davis. <dtml-in getUserSQL size=1 start=query_start> I have tried: <dtml-let login="_.string.lower('davis')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('login', 'davis')"> This works the first time I call getUserSQL, but breaks the second time with a different login as it appears I can only set the login variable once. 2) Since you can't have <dtml-sendmail mailto="<dtml... get emails from database. (nested <dtml> statements), how does one iteratively declare a list variable and then add to it. Then my mailto="_.string.join(listvar, ', ')" will work. It seems the majority of my problems are due to thinking in C,C++ or Java where one can simply declare a variable and then work with it. I haven't figured out how to do that in DTML. Any help you can offer is appreciated. -- Guy Davis mailto:davis@arc.ab.ca (403) 210-5334 Alberta Research Council

External methods calling ZSQl methods
by J C Lawrence 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

I've read (and am following) the HOW-To, but I seem to be missing something. I have a ZSQL method called GatCat which reads: SELECT * FROM Categories WHERE <dtml-sqltest CatID type=int> My external method reads (in part): def CategoryPath (self, baseURL, catID): div = " / " catPath = "" while (catID != 0): results=self.GetCat (CatID=int(catID)) ...lotsa boring logic in here... return catPath When I attempt to call this external method from a DTML method as so: <dtml-var "CategoryPath('http://www.kanga.nu/', 1)"> I get the following error: The database connection Library_database_connection cannot be found. GetCat works fine when tested by itself as well as when called from DTML methods by anonymous users (ie the permissions seem fine). What am I missing? -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

Using CC with MailHost
by Guy Davis 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

I am running Zope 2.12 on a RH6.1 Linux box. Using the mailhost object connecting to the sendmail port on the localhost. I can send mail just fine using the To: field. My problem is that if include a Cc: field directly below it, the message doesn't get sent to the cc address. I can receive it at the To address and the CC field is displayed properly. If I can't get the CC function working, I'll have to use multiple loops of the same <dtml-sendmail code>. Has anyone using the setup I described above gotten the CC to work? If so, please show me the exact contents of your sendmail tag. Thanks. -- Guy Davis mailto:davis@arc.ab.ca (403) 210-5334 Alberta Research Council

Using Links within Zope
by Eron Lloyd 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

Thanks for the help with images. I've just completed a 6 pg. how-to on it, which will be up for public consumption as soon as I get approval from ZDP. My next question is: Linking in Zope - is there anything special (yet basic enough) that can be done besides a "<a href="some.object">click here</a>" type of link? Any DTML-special stuff? Especially useful would be implementing a navigation bar that trails behind each level deep into the heirarchy you go. How to generate the links, etc. and what DTML would need to be used. Ideas? Pour 'em out, I'm willing to write as much as I learn. Thanks in advance, Eron

FW: [Zope] WebDav & IE5 webfolders
by Chip Vanek 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

Hi, My mistake. I am developing with the PTK Portal code and got WebFolder errors that are due to the content adding restrictions of PTK not the Zope WebDAV. When I try to upload a file to some other folder on my Zope server it works fine. I am using straight Zserver for testing/Dev but expect to deploy on Apache and IIS redirectors. Now that I can "drag & drop" a file from a Windows desktop to a Zope folder I want to trigger a task for the user to make the document indexed in the PTK Zcatalog. I expect that the Zcatalog cannot index binary files like MS Word so I need to wrap the uploaded doc in something that I can set some indexable properties on, right? I am still very new to Zope and do not what is possible but love the hunt. Does anyone know how to index MS Word docs with Zcatalog? no not sure at all. I'm open to suggestions from experiences anyone on the list has had. I just have to make up my mind soon. > -----Original Message----- > From: Guy N. Zope 2.1.4 released...
by Brian Lloyd 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

Hi all, Zope 2.1.4 has been released. It can be downloaded from Zope.org at: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.1.4/ This update prevents the REQUEST object from being traversable by web clients. While this feature was useful for debugging, Evan Simpson noted a potential security issue that could allow web authors to play client scripting tricks and make them appear (to the user) to be coming from a Zope site. While we know of no instances of this happening and the actual security of the Zope site's data is not affected by this, we do recommend that you upgrade to 2.1.4 to avoid any problems. Also (I know many of you are already thinking it :), we are working on a way to distribute "patch" releases for things like this to make updates easier. Until then, for those who _really_ just want to patch your installation you can replace the file lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py in your installation with the one from the 2.1.4 distribution and restart your Zope instance. Zope and html forms problem
by TMGB 09 Feb '00

09 Feb '00

My Zope configuration is (from the Control Panel): Zope version: Zope 2.0.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) Python version: 1.5.2 (#0, Jul 30 1999, 09:52:18) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] System Platform: win32 Process ID:(deleted) Running for: 33 days 23 hours 25 min 40 sec I have a page that is created when a user selects his/her name from a drop down select option menu. When the submit button is pressed Zope retrieves fields from a MySQL database and for all records that this user is the responder and has not processed. Now, on the page that is rendered the user may select one record (that has a question) to reply to. Pressing the button for that record, a Zsql method retrieves the necessary fields needed to respond to this question. The form below displays the question and the answer, I also keep the record number (ID) to finish the processing. If I put the word input in front of the line that has <dtml-var answer> as shown below, I lose my columns and rows and get just one row. If I remove the word input from the beginning of that tag I get my columns and rows as defined but no text in the window on the html page although the html source still shows the text for <dtml-var answer>. I need the text to be in that box in case someone wants to append to the original answer. If the text does not show, it over writes the data in the answer field of the database. On the other hand when one row shows I can scroll to the end and append to that answer and it overwrites data in the answer field of the database but It includes the original text so, ultimately I have appended to the answer. Originally, the form method just put the answer in the answer field of the database and the send mail was done separately, now I'm trying to have it set the reply in the answer field and send the email but there are some send mail problems doing them together and I'll submit that in a separate request for help. html stuff up here <H5>This reply will be added to the database of all questions asked for <H3><I><font color="#FF0000">recipient <dtml-var submitter null="">.</font></I></H3> After pressing the submit button, you will see a conformation page that confirms that your message has been added to the database. If you want this question added to the frequently asked questions use the page where you view all of the questions you have not finished. </H5> <BR> Question:<dtml-var question null=""> <br> <TABLE><TR><TD> <form action="send_mail" method="get"> <input type="hidden" name="pass_id" value=<dtml-var ID null=""> size="6"> <input textarea name="pass_answer" value="<dtml-var answer>" rows="5" cols="50" wrap ="soft"> </textarea> <input type="submit" value="Set Answer"> </form> </TD></TR></TABLE> Is there a way I can have both a textarea or some other object to show the complete text of the answer field from the database. -- TIA, Thomas -------------------------------------------------------------------- Rock and Rule Zope Rocks -- http://www.zope.org Python Rules -- http://www.python.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas McMillan Grant Bennett Appalachian State University Computer Consultant II University Library bennettt(a)am.appstate.edu http://www.library.appstate.edu/webmaster/ Voice: 828 262 6587 FAX: 828 262 3001 Windows 95 is a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit patch for an 8-bit operating system that was originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor. - Chris Dunphy Boot Magazine
