Autohandlers like in Mason ...
by Ramarao Kanneganti 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Hi, I am trying to convert a HTML::Mason powered site into Zope powered site. It uses autohandlers heavily so that any HTML file uploaded would get a header and footer and some other nifty features. I know that you can define standard_header and footer to do similar things in Zope. But it means people need to include them using DTML in the files. I am wondering if there is a way to force all the content under a particular folder or path to go through an auxiliary program. In the minimal case, I would be satisfied with something like Apache::Sandwich. I would like to know if there is some product that does what I want. Thanks, Rama

Adding ZClass Instances via DTML
by Nico Grubert 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

hello, I try to add a new instance of a simple zclass "BuchClass" via dtml. I use a dtml-method "view_html" containing some code like this: <FORM ACTION="add_html" METHOD=post enctype="multipart/form-data"> <td>ID: <input type=text name=newID></td> <input type=submit value="Add"> </form> This dtml-method calls another dtml-method "add_dtml" which looks like this: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id','<dtml-var newID>')"> <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['BuchProduct']"> <dtml-call "BuchClass_add(_.None,_, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> Calling up "add_dtml" which gets the variable "newID" will bring me this error: The id contains characters illegal in URLs. ****************************************************************** The id contains characters illegal in URLs. Calling a ZSQL methods from an external method
by J C Lawrence 10 Feb '00

Would someone who is successfully calling a ZSQL methods from an external method mind dropping me their recipe? I'm following the HOW-TO exactly, but it keeps complaining that I can't find my database connector (and is using the wrong name to find it). -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

RE: [Zope] Object ID and Property confusion
by David Salgado 10 Feb '00

>I don't think this is normal behavior. This may be related to the "ZClass >ID bug". You may want to take a look at this doc: ><http://www.zope.org/Members/AlexR/ZClassIDBug>. You're right. Adding a setName call in the ZClass _add method solves the problem for all new instances. Many thanks David

ZODBCDA Test tab doesn't work - Fix
by Duncan Booth 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Previous posts to this mailing list have noted that the Test tab on an ODBC database connection doesn't work (it gives a unpack sequence of wrong size error). I have modified db.py to fix this problem, and the patch is available from http://www.zope.org/Members/Duncan/zodbcda_patch if anyone wants it. -- Duncan Booth duncan(a)dales.rmplc.co.uk int month(char *p){return(124864/((p[0]+p[1]-p[2]&0x1f)+1)%12)["\5\x8\3" "\6\7\xb\1\x9\xa\2\0\4"];} // Who said my code was obscure? http://dales.rmplc.co.uk/Duncan

Help ZClasses and Properties.
by Mats Nordgren 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

I'm trying to figure out how to use ZClasses and I found myself having problems with the manage_changeProperties for a property of the Class I made. I followed the ZDG ZClass tutorial and created the CDProduct the CDClass, set the property sheet and the class seems to be working ok but I can not for my life get the manage_changeProperties to update the properties of the instance of myCD in the root folder. I can change the properties with the Properties tab of the instance but not through DTML with the line: <dtml-call "myCD.manage_changeProperites({'title':'this title', 'artist':'this artist', 'description':'this desc'})"> It doesn't give me an error or anything it just dont change any property values. Please Help, Sincerely, Mats Nordgren

[newbie] I Can't Get Zope to Zope
by Richard Gordon 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

I recently downloaded Zope to pay with on mkLinux and have yet to actually get it to run. Somewhere along the line, I did determine that I needed to rebuild Python 1.5.2 with threading enabled and got that done, so the Zope installation process went ok. The problem is: When I do ./start, things churn around for a bit, then visibly start to happen- first I get a PROBLEM(100) ZServer computing default hostname message, but then Medusa starts using hostname: localhost (this is just my little lan) and claims 8080, then ftp starts and claims 8021, then PCGI creates a socket. So far I guess we are ok, but then I get: "...ZServer Monitor Server (1.5) started on port 8099" and nothing else like "at Wed Feb 9" etc and things just sit there. When I try to log in to the server at 8080, the browser is "connecting" but eventually times out. FTP doesn't work either. If I do a port scan, it shows an unknown tcp service is on 8021, http is on 8080, and nothing is on 8099. I'd really like to experiment with Zope but haven't gotten anywhere thus far. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

REQUEST and 2.1.4
by Evan Simpson 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Since I triggered the hiding of REQUEST in Zope 2.1.4, I thought it would be only fair to describe how you can make it visible again in a more controlled fashion (for those who haven't already done so). Simply make a DTML Method in your root folder called 'DEBUG' (or something similar) containing the line: <dtml-var REQUEST> ...and set its permissions so that only Managers can view it. Cheers, Evan @ digicool

Zope Debugging
by James W. Howe 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

In an effort to figure out why I have broken objects, I've been trying to understand how various parts of Zope work. What I would like to do is simply put some form of write statement in the python code and have information printed to a log file which I could review later. At the present time I'm just trying to figure out where things are happening and I don't want to stop execution. On a related manner, is there a way in Python to print a traceback but continue execution? For example, I might want to get to some point in the program and have a traceback which would help me figure out how I got to that point. Again, I don't want to stop execution. Thanks. James W. creating cross-product classes
by Ingo Assenmacher 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Hi! So, this MUST be simple to solve, but alas, I just can not figure it out: I have produced a product with some zclasse in it. Now, I want to use one or two of those classes within a new product by creating them using a constructor call of a new object. So, to make this clear, this is it: upProduct | class A | class B newProduct | class Z | class_Z_add (DTML-constructor method) | <dtml-comment> We add the new object by calling the class in a with tag. Not only does this get the thing added, it adds the new thing's attributes to the DTML name space, so we can call methods to initialize the object. Imagine Z is a folder and I want to initialliy create some objects within (probably from other products) <dtml-call "b_add(_.None, _ )"> that does not do the trick (obviously). Then I found a hint (http://www.zope.org/Members/tazzzzz/addZClasses) which gave a hint on this: <quote> If you are trying to add a ZClass instance from elsewhere in the ZODB, it's just a couple of lines more that are necessary: <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['YourProduct']"> <dtml-call "YourZClass_add(_.None, _, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> </quote> This raised an Attribute Error ( _u ??<- what is this)) So, how do I do this? Thanks for ANY HELP!! Regards, Ingo.
