how to get the value of size of a word-document

Hi, I select "file" from the Available Objects list and add a MSWord-File with the id "myDoc.doc" Zope will add this object. Klicking on this object will show me the following screen: Id : myDoc Title : formular Content Type : application/msword Precondition : Size : 66,048 bytes Last modified : 2000/01/25 19:41:7.68741 GMT+1 How can I get the value for size of the uploaded doc-file to show it into a index_html for instance ??? The value of "Last modified" I get with: <dtml-var bobobase_modification_time fmt="%d/%m/%Y - %H:%M"> thank you regards nico

Newbie Questions (or maybe not... ;-)

Hi, I'm hoping these both have simple answers. Firstly, is there any way you can make component DTML methods such as standard_html_header (and maybe other objects) invisible to the outside world? It's messy (and possibly a security hazard!) if they're not, for example, take a look at http://www.zope.org/standard_html_footer. This isn't really the sort of thing you want visible on its own but what if that method actually did something like delete files/etc... Secondly, is there any way you can specify a parent object of the same name in a DTML method? What I want to do is build up standard_html_header as you get deeper into a directory structure, for example: in / standard_html_header is: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE></HEAD><BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"> in /dir1 standard_html_header is: <dtml-var standard_html_header> Some more text for a header... and so on... Of course, this generates an infinite recursion. So what I'm asking is if there's any way to tell the dtml-var call in /dir1/standard_html_header to use the standard_html_header in / rather than in /dir1? Cheers for any help, Chris

Loosing namespace when calling a DTML-Method

Hi, people! I'm a Zope newbie and have a big big problem which i could not find anything about on the lists. I'm using the zope package that comes with debian linux potato (2.1.2) and the problem is the following: When i call a DTML Method with dtml-var or dtml-call, the called method cannot access any object. Not REQUEST, not an with dtml-let or dtml-with assigned variable, nothing. Further the called method cannot access any Objects in it's own folder, even when i wrap it with <dtml-with folder> (which is just the same problem). Accessing the same variables inside the calling function works just like expected. When i change the DTML Method to a DTML Document, it cannot access variables from outside, but gets an Authentication error when accessing objects in the current namespace My current workaround is to code everything in Python, as this works just great or to do everything in one big DTML Method. But this is not a long term solution! I see two possible explanations for this phenomenon: i totally misunderstand the Zope-security model, which is not unlikely, or my Zope installation is buggy. (I hope it is the first one as i dont feel like installing a full featured Zope with PostgresSQL binding and dont want to wait for the 2.1.3 .deb) Has anybody an idea what's going on? thx, bertl

Hi all, I need some help here - over the past few days two different Zope servers have gone into the 'hanging' state, where they don't reply to further requests. When the first event happened I didn't take a 'top', today, I've managed to get one. The process causing the problem is 12482. From previous messages, I believe that the python CPU can go up to 100%, obviously this isn't happening here. This happened when I asked the Zope server to make a MySQL query. The MySQL server is running fine and I can get to it from a command line interface. Both servers are Zope 2.1.2 source distributions running under Solaris 5.6 This server is running three different Zope sites using Apache as the backend (ie I'm using pcgi to get to my servers). I can't get to it using the pcgi route (ie a ReWrite Rule from Apache), nor from the ZServer incarnation of the server. I also can't get to it from the monitor connection (telnet localhost 8099). I can't let this situation continue as these are live sites. I need to restart the server whenever this happens. Re. combining Zope sites

There are a couple of "Gotchas", that I've run into, as far as Export / Import. It's very easy to Export a "Top" level folder, as long as it's not "THE" Top Level Folder. What I mean is that when you Export a folder, all it's contents, including properties, subfolders, etc. are automagically included, and that's about as painless as it can get. BUT, there's no way to "Export" THE Top Level "Zope" folder. So, if you need to move anything that's contained in the "Zope" folder itself, you will likely need to create a new "Temporary Folder", as a sub-folder of the main folder which you plan to Export. Then, copy the contents of the "Zope" folder into the Temporary folder. When you Import, you can copy* and paste again, into the Zope folder of the new location, and you're back in business. Actually, a certified Zope Guru told me later that I really could have "published" even the TOP level Zope folder, by calling ZPublisher from a Python command, but I had already copied and pasted everything by then . . . Of course, it's best to know this ahead of time, since it can seriously impact your Folder Hierarchy / Design! Another thing that induced about 1/2 day of panic once, was an error that caused the Import to fail. I have no clue what the error was (some reference to a math function . . .), or why it occured, but by selecting "Export as XML", and likewise at the Import step, the error "disappeared". It's worth a try, it worked for me. Good Luck! Jerry S. * Unfortunately, Properties will have to be re-entered manually, or I guess you could create a method to copy their names and contents into a different object type, and reverse the process to rebuild them in their new home. Am I right in assuming that: <dtml-tree> <dtml-var id> </dtml-tree> will only display the folders in the current directory? Is this because only Folder objects have a tpValues method (which branches defaults to...)? Shouldn't other stanard objects like DTML docs & methods, etc, provide this method? ;-) cheers, Chris

newbie project: building a memepool-like application

I have been experimenting with Zope since about 4 months ago, and one of the most interesting things about it is how it changes the usual development of web applications to a more standard and inteligent way. The object-oriented approach of Zope make it very interesting. A couple of weeks ago, while reading one of my favourite weblogs, memepool (www.memepool.com) I notice a very "Zopish" structure of its URLs: www.memepool.com/Author/peterb or www.memepool.com/Subject/Travel So I went and asked the memepool site administrator what was running under the hood, and he replied literally: "a scary pile of perl, mostly" I thought that building a memepool-like web application with Zope would be a good way to learn. So I grabbed the Zclasses tutorial and started to build a meme Zclass, but like good newbies do, run into some problems that I could not solve alone. Stuff like: "How do I make Zope automatically store and number instances of the meme ZClass that I just defined?" Now I have taken this project with a different approach: I will try to build the memepool application completely from the ground up and following an OOAD (Object Oriented Analysis and Design) methodology. The final goal of this project is to have a completely functional memepool-like application, product or whatever, built completely from scratch, using Zope. But I expect many bumps in the road ahead. The problem is that although I know a bit of OOAD, and have programmed a lot in other languages like perl, I am a newbie in two of the main areas involved: Zope and Python. I know though, that the Zope community will help me as I go along, specially the people in this list. I will keep an account of the progress of the project at the webpage mentioned below. Informix Database Connection
