Our IMP-based solution on www.ekno.com and www.ekit.com implements POP as 'fetch from remote POP server into local IMAP store'. That works ok. It also means you can keep the logic of displaying messages cleaner. Anthony

Re: [Zope] DCOracle for 8.1.5 (8i)
by Anthony Baxter 29 Jan '00

DCOracle works against 8i. You just have to fiddle the Setup script to get the link libraries right. It doesn't use some of the new neato whizzbang 8i features, but if that sort of early-adopter stuff is what you need, that's where you pay them to add it. I'm using it against an 8i database every day. Anthony. >>> "Adam Gotheridge" wrote > Hmmm.... I would think external rdbms support is crucial to the future > success of the product. This way a POP client would suffice (could be set to not > delete messages from the server by default) The problem with POP is that the webserver has to download all the messages to itself to be able to do anything with it. Once it's downloaded them, it can't put them back afterwards. "keep mail on server" is a really really nasty hack. It just doesn't work for a mailbox of any complexity. > OT: With all the mail I keep in my local mailbox I don't know how > IMAP will ever be the way for me, although I'd love to have access to > all the mail from everywhere... > > Jochen > > > _______________________________________________ > Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope > ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** > (Related lists - > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

Shadow password
by Matt Goodall 29 Jan '00

29 Jan '00

I would like to authenticate users from the UNIX system. Unfortunately, my system uses shadow passwords which are not world readable so I can't use the etcUserFolder product. I understand the security implications of this next question but is there any way to authenticate users but from a shadow password file? Or is there a better way of doing things? Is there any way of using the PAM system perhaps? I've got this working on my standard Zope CVS install - I had to copy just the lib/python/Products/WorldPilot/ directory to my install, then make the directories specified in the INSTALL file. Problems I've found so far: It expects a pickled file in /var/spool/worldpilot/sessions/Logons to exist - I think I fooled it here by making it a pickle of an empty dictionary. from looking at the code, this seems ok. Something like the following will work: % cd /var/spool/worldpilot/sessions % python Python 1.5.2 (#2, Sep 12 1999, 16:22:52) [GCC 2.7.2.3] on linux2 Copyright 1991-1995 Stichting Mathematisch Centrum, Amsterdam >>> import cPickle >>> cPickle.Pickler(open('Logons', 'wb')).dump({}) >>> ^D (to exit python) When you create a WorldPilot object, you get something that looks a lot like the add form from the Poll product :) The code's a leeetle bit too enthusiastic with bareword 'except:' clauses around problem areas. This can make finding problems a bit ugly. Other than that, it seems to be working fine - I had to tweak the source a little to get it to use the IMAP server that I wanted, but heck, that's fine. it's a bug on my part - edit the sqlDeleteValue method and make a default value for name of "" - ie change the arg list to name="" is fixed in local code, should be part of 0.3.0 (out this weekend, all things going well). Just started messing around with SQLSession, and have come across something I don't understand. If I call SESSION.clear(), Zope reports a BadRequest exception with the value as ['name']. Does SESSION.clear() NOT clear an entire session, can it only be used to clear specific names within the session? Thanks. -- Stand Fast, tjg. DTML "method"?
by Glyph Lefkowitz 28 Jan '00

28 Jan '00

What is the elegant (read: correct) way to "pass arguements" to a DTML method? This must be a simple question, but I've been reading docs for weeks, and although I know there are hundreds of ways to acquire properties, grab SQL, etcetera, I can't find the simple tutorial of how to do something like: My site has four sections. I want to have a 'section' dtml method that takes a name and a description, that I call like this: <dtml-var section-header name="Authors" description=""" Go here for an in-depth description of what's required to become an author, licensing agreements, and the Authoring section (requires password) """ > <dtml-var section-header name="Developers" description=""" Go here for open source software such as Twisted Reality. """ > ... and so on and so forth. It would be nice if, based on a naming convention, I could have the dtml "section-header" method figure out what the appropriate graphic to insert... Mostly I want repetitive table formatting taken care of though, but without having to special-case all the actual content. Simple ZCatalog Question
by James W. Howe 28 Jan '00

28 Jan '00

If I have an object with a boolean property and I want to find all objects in my catalog which do *not* have this property, how do I formulate the catalog search parameters? I've tried: Catalog(meta_type='something', booleanProperty='false') and Catalog(meta_type='something', booleanProperty=0) and a couple of other variations. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
