If you're traveling to the Python Conference, be advised that winter has finally arrived in the Washington, DC area. We're currently experiencing *high* temperatures of 22 degrees F (-6 degrees C); with the wind chill it will feel much colder. So be sure to pack warm clothes. Yesterday, about 6 inches of snow fell, disrupting air travel; more is expected on Sunday, so expect delays flying into DC. Local transportation should be fully operational, but may experience some delays. Of course, I haven't used the LocalFS product in a "real" production environment (and it may have security implications that I am not aware of) but I've tried it out in a test environment and its great for serving file-based content I don't care to convert or store in the ZODB... The Zope Product is available here: http://www.zope.org/Members/jfarr/LocalFS Another alternative is to use PCGI or FastCGI to convert a portion of your website to serve up your Zope app -- assuming that the webserver you are using is supported by Zope (e.g. Apache, Roxen, IIS, Netscape, etc). Lastly, if you still want to go with your approach of converting your Zope pages into static text, search through this list's mailing archives -- IIRC, there have questions about this in the past and several of them have been answered (use wget or a similar utility that grabs webpages from websites). One of the downsides of this approach, however, is that you tend to miss out on a lot of Zope's unique capabilities... HTH. If I understand you correctly, your problem is the HTTP Basic auth mechanism, it's actually your *browser* which is insisting on sending auth credentials with each request. It might be useful to look at the docs for the RPM and see what kinds of things they were thinking about. This is not to say that ZopePacks should be anywhere near as comprehensive as RPMs. Rather, that they've thought of a number of issues that may or may not be germane the mechanisms in Zope. --Rob

Anonymous v. unknown

I have a problem which I am sure many others have run into and solved. I have setup some public folders in Zope and underneath them are some user folder protected branches. In my work on my advertising banner project, I have created reports which show the reuslts of impressions, blah, blah for customers. They log in to the site and can see their banners and the statistics on them. Problem: I am trying to access, inside these branches, data which is public. Zope seems to demand that people who are logged in to any part of the document tree have access rights elsewhere in the tree. I would prefer to map an 'unknown' user to anonymous access. Did I miss something in my setup? I solved this short term by moving my user_folder up the tree.. but I don't like this solution much. -- Matt Miller matt.miller(a)thelinuxstore.com

Butch, that is a great idea. It would be a great tool for novices like myself. I currently have a problem where I built a ZClassed based object and now am unsure how to move the object/product to a new Zope instance. Are there any pointers out there on how this is accomplished? XMLDocument question, DOM API

Hi all, I'm trying to do something very simple with XMLDocument. I want to extend the FAQ example described by Amos in http://www.xml.com/pub/2000/01/xmlrpc/index.html I've wrote an external method called "addEntry": def addEntry(self, REQUEST): entry = self.getOwnerDocument().createElement('entry') self.appendChild(entry) What I want to do with it is to add a new entry to the FAQ. Zope on the Mac OS
