You'd think the goal were to add as many steps and people into this process as possible. It's almost as if they forget there are computers involved that might be able to help us build this Web thingy! I don't pretend to understand the UML Zen needed to map out the ideal solution, but as for nailing the problem, Andrew has done that. Thanks for keeping on, Jerry S.

Documentation brokeness

Heydliho. The postscript documentation on the web site is broken in as much as they are actually postscript docs wrapped in pcl. On the printers I have around here (Apple 16/600 and a Xerox Docu something or other) the pcl handling means these docs print out the postscript as plain text. ;) It took many pained hours to figure this out, but once I did I just grabbed the pdf's and made compliant PS files ;) It would be preferable if you guys shipped PS files without the PCL wrapping in both Letter and A4 sizes ... brett -- email: Brett.Morgan(a)uts.edu.au phone: +61-2-9514-2091 Scotty: Captain, we din' can reference it! dtml-tree and Z SQL methods

Does anyone know how to display hierarchical content from SQL? I was hoping to find the answer in the "Secrets of working with the tree tag"-HOWTO but appearently it's not yet in there. What I have in (My)SQL is a table with: cont_id - Unique ID (primary key) of a container upper_id - ID of the upper container or NULL (the container containing this container;) description - text to be displayed describing the container Ragnar Beer

inheritedAttribute?

I was looking through some Zope Python code and noticed several places where something like Foo.inheritedAttribute(...) was used. Can someone explain what this does? I didn't find a definition for a method named inheritedAttribute so I'm a bit confused as to what this is doing. Thanks. Adding ZClass from inside of a ZClass

I have a ZClass which inherits from ObjectManager. When I create an instance of this ZClass, I also want to automatically create an instance of another ZClass that I have created. I've looked at the How To on doing this but things aren't working quite right. When I add my new instance of my ZClass ObjectManager, my second ZClass gets added not to my new ZClass instance, but the folder which contains the new ZClass instance. Here's one comment that should provide a good place to start. There is already a mechanism for creating product distributions for products created through the web. When you develop a product with ZClasses and you want to distribute it, you can use a web interface to create a tar ball that can be installed just like any other Zope product. There is no need to fool around with export files and no need to have an inconsistent installation mechanisms. This is documented in the Zope Content Manager's Guide, http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/ZCMG, in the chapter on "Zope Applications and Products", http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/ZCMG-HTML/ZCMG.6.html, in the section on "Creating Product Distributions", http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/ZCMG-HTML/ZCMG.6.4.html. This mechanism is far from perfect and I look forward to suggestions and implementation for enhancements. We also have some specific ideas for enhancing this mechanism. This seems to be one of those topics of "Zope Zen" that is not widely known. (Very few people at DC seem to be aware of it.) Zope as a content manager for static web sites

We're using Zope to build a web based app, but we also have a site that just serves static pages. I'd love to use Zope as a content management tool for the static site, but can't install Zope on that server. Is there a Zope add-on that would let me build the site in Zope, and then publish a static web site from that. Have Zope build the HTML pages from the DTML methods, and write them to disk, so that I can then FTP those to the server? Any directions you could point me would be greatly appreciated. Bob

XMLDocument, Zope.org mistake

Hi, in http://www.zope.org/Products/XMLDocument/ XMLDocument-1.0a3.tgz is XMLDocument 1.0a4 and vice versa: XMLDocument-1.0a4.tgz is XMLDocument 1.0a3 I was experiencing a 1.0a3 bug solved in 1.0a4, the Changes page gave me the clue, I was using the 1.0a3 version that I downloaded from the Zope site thinking it was 1.0a4. Please, fix this and update the CHANGES and version files of the 1.04a release. Thanks, David

Looping construct for DTML

Is there any chance of a looping construct for DTML? Fairly often I find I need to do a pretty simple piece of looping control, for instance repetitively popping items off the URL path under SiteAccess to do something with them, and I find that I have everything I need under DTML except a <dtml-while expr>. I know I could do an embedded method, but the task is *really* lightweight and obvious, and going to a whole other method for a little bit of string-fu seems overkill. Perfect would be: <dtml-while "expr"> </dtml-while> Yes, I realise the dangers of infinite loops.
