Refer to sequence-index within SQLmethod?
by Jerry.Spicklemire＠IFLYATA.COM 14 Jan '00

Hi again, Perhaps if I get in the habit of adding more detail in the first message, a higher number of Zenful types will feel they have enough information to hazard a guess. Better late than never, so here's a sample of the code in the SQL Query Template Edit Box : update user_login_table set unique_row_id = <dtml-sqlvar "_.string.zfill(_.str(_.int('sequence-index')),9)" type=nb> and, here are even more ways to try adding a "sequence-item" argument into the ZSQLmethod Edit Window that don't work : _.getitem(sequence-index) , "_.getitem(sequence-index)" , expr=_.getitem(sequence-index) , expr="_.getitem(sequence-index)" , and, "expr=_.getitem(sequence-index) BTW, the question is bound to come up, as in, "Why in the name of Zope do you need to do this?" Wouldn't the world would be a lovely place if every table that any Desktop Database user had ever misconceived included a Record ID? Alas no. The shameful truth is, all I'm really trying to do is stuff a string that's predictably exclusive into each row, so that I can comfortably fall back into my bad old habits from dBase days, and easily retrieve single records for processing . . . Thanks for any clues! Jerry S.

Accessing Folder Objects - Newbie Question
by James W. Howe 14 Jan '00

14 Jan '00

I have a situation where I want to ask a Folder (actually a ZClass) for a subset of the objects it manages. I want to do this from a DTMLMethod which exists in another folder. For example, suppose I have the following: FolderA NewsArticle1 NewsArticle2 FeatureArticle1 FeatureArticle2 NewsPage (a Folder) index.html (a DTMLMethod) FeaturePage (aFolder) index.html (a DTMLMethod) I would like to do something similar to the following in the NewsPage index.html method: <dtml-in allNewsArticles> <dtml-var Title> <dtml-var Teaser> </dtml-in> To make this work I would use a URL similar to this: http://foobar.com/Root/FolderA/NewsPage FolderA would implement the allNewsArticles method which would answer the collection of all contents in FolderA which are a "news article" (probably based on the meta-type of the object). My question is this, what would the code have to look like in allNewsArticles to make this work? Thanks. James W. Image sizing
by coder＠kanga.nu 14 Jan '00

14 Jan '00

Given an image object (such as the perrenial single pixel invisible GIF oft used in tables), is there a more direct way to provide custom height and width tags for the image object than: <img src="<dtml-var invisible_img>" width=20 height=1> The normal: <dtml-var invisible_img> of course just uses the "correct" sizes... -- J C Lawrence Internet: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Internet: coder(a)kanga.nu ...Honorary Member of Clan McFud -- Teamer's Avenging Monolith...

For example, all of the methods attributable to a folder are found in lib/python/OFS/Folder.py. -Michel

Epoch time use

At last, something I know the asnwer to! The DTML Language Reference http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/DTML-HTML/DTML.html has an Appendix A, http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/DTML-HTML/DTML.19.html at the end. Even though there's no sample code anywhere on the page to show you how they work, there are lot's of cool formats here and it goes something like this : <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('this_time', _.DateTime fmt=AMPM)"> using the first on in the list as an example. I had to search back throuh old Mail List aArchive to find this. Good Luck! Jerry S.

Sybase: patch for handling DECIMAL data type (Invalid buffer element type)
by Hung Jung Lu 14 Jan '00

14 Jan '00

Hi, I will recap here the problem with SybaseDAv2 regarding the handling of DECIMAL data type, this is the source of the "Invalid buffer element type" error that I found. Right now the database adapter is crashing for DECIMAL data types that are integers with precisions higher than 9 digits. (For DECIMAL data types that are integers with precisions less or equal than 9 digits, the adapter converts them into INT data type, and there will be no problem.) To fix this glitch, I had to modify two files in the SybaseDAv2 distribution. (The current release is v2.0.0b1, http://www.zope.org/Products/DA/SybaseDA/) (1) Follow the instructions till you have done the command make -f Makefile.pre.in boot (2) Edit the file SybaseDAv2/src/sy_occbf.c near the place where it says "Invalid buffer element type", insert another case statement for the CS_DECIMAL_TYPE. The result should look like: case CS_DATETIME4_TYPE: element_size=sizeof(CS_DATETIME4); break; case CS_NUMERIC_TYPE: element_size=sizeof(CS_NUMERIC); break; case CS_DECIMAL_TYPE: element_size=sizeof(CS_NUMERIC); break; case CS_BIT_TYPE: element_size=sizeof(CS_BIT); break; case STRING_CASES: break; default: return SybaseError("Invalid buffer element type"); } (3) Proceed with the instructions and issue the make command, and move the sy_occ.so library a level up to your SybaseDAv2 directory. Follow all other instructions of the README.txt file provided with the distribution. (4) You will also need to edit the SybaseDAv2/db.py file. Search for the lines that say: if string_type(t): v=rstrip(buf[:cop[0]]) elif t is sy_occ.CS_NUMERIC_TYPE: and change the elif line to: elif t in (sy_occ.CS_NUMERIC_TYPE, sy_occ.CS_DECIMAL_TYPE): (5) Restart your Zope. And hopefully this solves your problem with the DECIMAL database. At least this is how fixed my problem. :) I guess SybaseDAv2 needs more people's feedback. Right now it seems to have a some problems. regards, Hung Jung ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Epoch time use
by coder＠kanga.nu 14 Jan '00

14 Jan '00

How do I: a) Get the time in terms of seconds from the epoch (standard unix time_t ala 1970)? b) Translate a time_t value under Zope into human readable ala ctime() or DateTime? I don't see that the DateTime class can do this per the DTML guide and I have an external DB that relies on time_t based indexing. Do I really have to write an external method? -- J C Lawrence Internet: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Internet: coder(a)kanga.nu ...Honorary Member of Clan McFud -- Teamer's Avenging Monolith...

I was curious as to how the manage_workspace and other manage_ methods work, so I am wondering how to view the source for these methods ?
