Advanced search with ZCatalog
by Markus Strickler 10 Jan '00

10 Jan '00

Hi! I have a ZClass with several properties defined and indexed. Now I want to perform a search where the search term is matched against any of the properties. (So if I have say a title, summary and body property and my query term is "Test" any ZClass with Test in either title, summary ord body should be returned.) I've found some hints on this in the advanced search howto, that suggests performing multiple searches (one on each property) and concatenating the results. This seems rather clumsy and I wonder if there is any other possibility? Is there any documentation of the Catalog object? Can Catalog.searchResults() be of any use in this, and if so what's the meaning of its parameters? Regards, Markus

If you have a Linux box handy, try and do a fresh install on that and see what permissions the files are installed with. Follow the instructions in the install file in the package!!! I'm busy right now, thus the short answer. I might get back. mysqlUserFOlder question
by Elijah Wright 09 Jan '00

09 Jan '00

from teh mysqluserfolder docs: ". Also, it is not possible to create/delete roles. That needs to be done using sql client." So this means that i need to add a role to the database manually, rather than through the interface. OK. is this an arbitrarily named role, or is it the 'mysqlUser' role that the product says it knows about internally?? (BTW, the .sql file distributed with mysqlUserFolder is missing a field- the EMail field doesn't get created, and so the product doesn't work until you fix it- easily done by editing the script, dropping the database, and readding it.) can someone give me a brief pointer? i'm plugging mysqluserfolder into squishdot, if that helps :) elijah

special user can't add ZClass
by Timothy Wilson 09 Jan '00

09 Jan '00

Hi everyone, Yesterday I finally unveiled the first semi-cool version of the Zope-powered site at my school district. Everyone is invited to check it out at at http://www.isd197.k12.mn.us/. At this point there are three major features that really use Zope. 1. A ZClass that we use to create news articles (a la Slashdot) for display on the homepage. (We decided not to use Squishdot for a couple reasons.) 2. The PostgreSQL-driven alumni database. 3. Dynamic news headlines using Site Summary. My student and I learned a ton working on it and we hope to really expand the features of the site over the next few months. The question: We have created a role called 'NewsPoster' that should be able to post news articles for publication and basically have no other privileges. I'm having a terrible time trying to tweak the permissions so this person can log in, let alone post articles. What should be checked on the security page? Obviously the person needs 'Add News Articles' (our ZClass), but anything else beyone what 'Anonymous' has? If you visit the site, you'll see the 'Submit news' link on the left. Maybe I'm using the wrong URL to add the article. I've got: <a href="/school_news/articles/manage_addProduct/NewsProduct/NewsArticle_factory/">Submit news</a> The /school_news/articles/ directory is where all the instances are stored. The default behavior of NewsArticle_factory is to add an instance. I'm stumped. Any ideas? -Tim -- Timothy Wilson | "The faster you | Check out: Henry Sibley H.S. | go, the shorter | http://slashdot.org/ W. Using MySQL DA
by Tom 09 Jan '00

Everyone, i have downloaded ZMySQLDA, and MySQLdb-0.1.0. MySQLdb-0.1.0 has compiled and installed fine ( or seems to have, the _mysqlmodule.so being copied to the python/site-packages dir etc ). Then i tried to install ZMySQLDA. untarred in the correct place etc. Ran the make -f Makefile.pre.in boot, which seemed ok. But when i then try and run make i get the following errors, any one any ideas ? This is with SuSE6.3 gcc -fpic -I/usr/include/mysql -O2 -m486 -fno-strength-reduce -I/usr/include/python1.5 -I/usr/include/python1.5 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -c ./MySQLmodule.c ./MySQLmodule.c: In function `pythonify_row': ./MySQLmodule.c:238: warning:assignment from incompatible pointer type ./MySQLmodule.c: In function `pythonify_res_fields': ./MySQLmodule.c:384: invalid lvalue in unary `&' ./MySQLmodule.c: In function `STH_fetchdict': ./MySQLmodule.c:1125: invalid lvalue in unary `&' ./MySQLmodule.c:1147: invalid lvalue in unary `&' make: *** [MySQLmodule.o] Error 1 i am new to python and zope, any help appreciated regards Tom Wright thomas.wright1(a)btinternet.com

Hi, I'm new on the Zope list and I have my first question. Why is it I always get the above in the subject line mentioned ValueError message and the below Python trace whenever I try to Test my ZODBC connection on Windows98 or NT with some SELECT SQL query, against many different database backends? ------ Roland Traceback (innermost last): File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 214, in publish_module File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 179, in publish File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 202, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: RoleManager) File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 165, in publish File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_test) File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 102, in call_object (Object: manage_test) File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\Shared\DC\ZRDB\Connection.py, line 177, in manage_test (Object: RoleManager) File D:\Program Files\WebSite\lib\python\Shared\DC\ZRDB\Results.py, line 104, in __init__ ValueError: (see above) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Lo and behold, I found the answer, which is that I'm dealing with a bug here. Of all places, it was in the How-Tos (yes, I've looked there before) http://www.zope.org/Members/gtk/containers Given the number of replies, I have to assume that few knew (or at least remembered) this. So I'm posting this info in case anyone is suffering the same problem. ^_^ - Gregor

is it possible to add numerical comparison test to dtml-in statement ? statement ?
by chas 09 Jan '00

09 Jan '00

When looping over ZClass instances in a dtml-in statement, I have constantly wanted to add a numerical test condition (eg. "where X > 12" where X is a property of the instance) This applies either using objectValues() to loop over the ZClass instances, or using the ZCatalog. Either way, I end up using something a little retarded like this : <dtml-in "objectValues(['MyClass'])" sort=Points> <dtml-if "Points > 12"> ...... </dtml-if> </dtml-in> or <dtml-in "Catalog({'meta_type': 'MyClass'})" sort=Points> <dtml-if "Points > 12"> ...... </dtml-if> </dtml-in> Either way, it's not ideal b/c it means looping unnecessarily and also, it means that I can't use the very convenient Zope "next/previous" (with a query_start) for long listings. There must be an easy way of incorporating this into the dtml-in statement and I'm ready to eat some humble pie on this one : is it possible ? Mouth wide open, chas
