Accents (ISO Latin) cannot be searched with ZCatalog..
by Farzad Farid 03 Jan '00

03 Jan '00

I was very disappointed on my first try with ZCatalog when I noticed that it cannot properly index documents containing european accents.. The search engine I installed is of course unusable because it cannot find a large number of words in the indexed documents. I am running Zope 2.0.1, Python 1.5.2 and to install ZCatalog I followed the instructions in the ZCatalog howto. How can I correct this problem? Talking from the point of view of SQLSession, you either call Session with _force_new_session=1, put _force_new_session=1 into the REQUEST, or, if you just want to keep the session ID, but nuke the data, call SESSION.clear(). I'd imagine FSSession would have a similar API - check the code. > Also, using the FSSession product, how does one pass session information > between folders? Can't you just put the session in the folder above the ones that should have access to it? Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

simple news ZClass categories
by Timothy Wilson 03 Jan '00

03 Jan '00

Hi everyone, We've got a simple (yet elegant :-) news ZClass for our site at school. It allows someone to post an article and have it displayed in a Slashdot-esque style. There are a number of different categories for the articles. I'm going to assign different users resonsibility for the different categories. What's the best way to restrict access so that a given user can only post messages in a certain category? -Tim -- Timothy Wilson | "The faster you | Check out: Henry Sibley H.S. | go, the shorter | http://slashdot.org/ W. Session Management
by Timothy Grant 03 Jan '00

03 Jan '00

Hi, I guess I don't understand session management, and need some help. I'm using the FSSession tool and have things configured like this: Root/ SubFolder1 SubFolder2 SubFolder3 FSSession index_html index_html initializes the FSSession object. The docs say I should just put it in my standard_html_header, but if it gets rexecuted I get an error message, so I put it in index_html using the following: <dtml-unless "_.has_key('FSSession')"> <dtml-call FSSession> </dtml-unless> This appears to work very nicely, as I make extensive use of it in SubFolder1. However, I found a need to display a form in SubFolder2 from SubFolder1 and use a session key that was set in SubFolder1. It didn't work, I couldn't figure out why until I printed the FSSession object while using the SubFolder2 form. It was empty. I guess I don't understand this, the FSSession object is in the root folder, it is initialized in my index_html in the root folder, why doesn't SubFolder2 inherit the FSSession from the root? Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. -- Stand Fast, tjg. structured text : paras and lists not working ?
by Darcy Clark 03 Jan '00

03 Jan '00

I am having a small problem with using structured text. Specifically I have a form with a text area form element that gathers entered text, i.e. <textarea name="body" cols=60 rows=5></textarea> and enters it along with some other arguments into an MySQL database using an sql method, like so : INSERT INTO announcements (announceID, course, timestamp, body, posted_by, date) VALUES (NULL, , NULL, , , ); I then display the text in another file like this : I can get every structured text element to work (including *italics*, **bold**, _underlined_ etc...) but the paragraph and lists are not working. e.g. this text : - test - test will be rendered as : - test - test The carriage returns are being entered into the database, and are still here when I get the text out, but the fmt=structured-text doesn't seem to be recognizing the carriage returns or any of the list 'tags'. This is SQL query I use to get the data back out : select timestamp,date,body,posted_by from announcements where order by timestamp DESC; any pointers on what I am doing wrong or missing ? thanks in advance, Darcy -- --------------------------------------------------- Ph: (734) 764 3377 Email: darcyc(a)engin.umich.edu URL: http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~darcyc/ --------------------------------------------------- 'If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate' ..... IE 4/5 error
by Timothy Grant 03 Jan '00

03 Jan '00

Hi again, As you may have been able to tell from the voluminous quantity of posts I have been making, I'm working on a rather large project. It is mostly complete, and I am sitting at my client's getting everything installed on their servers. I had an interesting problem crop up. Using IE 4 in testing at work I put in the URL http://192.168.10.1:8080/FWF_Scale and got the index_html document displayed correctly, but the minute I attempted to load a different doc Zope told me it could not find the requested doc. They have IE 5 here, so I tried it here, but instead of using the IP, I put in the server name as it is setup in hosts. I get the same error using both the short server name fwf1:8080 and the long server name fwf1.farwestfibers.com. I came back to my notebook running NS 4.61 under Linux and all works as it should. Navigator under Win 98 also works correctly. I understand that most open sourcers don't particularly like MS products, but I didn't think they broke them on purpose! <wink> -- Stand Fast, tjg. PyJabber - OPENSOURCE XML MESSAGING COMPONENT
by Theodore Patrick 03 Jan '00

03 Jan '00

This was in the Documentation for Jabber - an Open Source INSTANT MESSAGING PRODUCT based on XML. http://jabber.org/ They have written a component that extends the Python Platform in XML. Here is a snip of the Description: "Python: PyJabber is 100% pure Python, portable, (optionally) threaded, compact, and trivial to integrate. It is fully functional and is ready for more testers, users, and being used to bring Jabber and real-time XML functionality to a variety of popular Python projects (mailman, zope, etc)." Looks interesting! Has anyone worked with it yet? Theodore E. Patrick Ishophere.com
