Form with variable number of inputs
by Gustin Kiffney 22 Dec '99

22 Dec '99

I saw in zope.org's Documentation/How-to's an essay on how to create a form with a variable number of inputs but it seemed a bit too complicated for my simple mind. I also read about the ':record' type but its behavior doesn't seem useful in this case where some selections in some rows might be left empty. What I have is a table that may have variable number of rows with listboxes of the same choices and text input boxes in each row. The user might change some or none of the choices. What I wound up doing is in each row having something like <td><select name="lister:list" size="1"> <option value="Unassigned_Investigator"> <dtml-in get_all_inv_names> <option value="<dtml-var lastname"><dtml-var lastname></option> </dtml-in> </select> </td> which just means I coerced the 'lister' selection to be a list(in case there were just one selection - the normal behavior for Zope when several form variables have the same name 'joe' appears to be to turn them into a list named 'joe'. I also have a hidden field of 'ids' which is also a list and which is in each row too. So far when I get these list of 'ids' and 'lister' back, using Linux Netscape 4 and Windows IE 4, they match up - in other words, the first 'ids' corresponds to the first 'lister', etc. So I can figure out which selection goes with which record/row. So it seems that inputs with the same name are sent back to Zope 'in order' at least with the browsers I use. Is this a browser-dependent thing or does Zope have some magic I don't know about that's doing this? Is my ignorance showing? (don't answer that!) I have a bunch more forms I'm considering doing this way but I'm worried I'm just getting lucky and this might not work in all situations/browsers. Anyone know?

RE: [Zope] NTUserFolder requires win32ext - how do I link to that ?

If you want to use your own python you have to use the source release of Zope or hack at the binary release. What hacks are necesary is unknown to me. > But I am trying NTUserFolder which relies on win32 extensions. I have > installed NTUserFolder and confirmed that it too doesn't run with the > default installation (<Error Type: KeyError; Error Value: > PARENT_URL>, when > adding a new user; details below - I assume that lack of > win32ext is the > problem but could very easily be wrong). The problem is probably because PARENT_URL is obsolete and was removed a while ago from Zope, quite a while ago, I think in the 1.10.x releases. > I would like to know either > - how to get win32extensions visible to the Zope copy of python, or > - how to get Zope to look at my 'win32all' python > installation (which I > would ensure to be the latest version of python). I think the version issue is a red herring. If NTUserFolder depends on PARENT_URL then it has a bug in it. -Michel

ZPublisher.Client misleading exceptions
by R.Taylor＠eris.dera.gov.uk 22 Dec '99

22 Dec '99

We are using ZPublisher.Client to call a "manage_add...." function to create a ZClass instance. We are seeing some strange exceptions. The "manage_add" function works through the web management interface but when called from ZPublisher.Client it creates the instance and then generates an exception. In the following code place, uname, pwd are strings and kw is a dictionary. place is 'http://zopehost/folder/manage_addProduct/Comment/manage_addComment' def go(place, uname, pwd,kw): import Client return(apply(Client.Function(place, username=uname, password=pwd), (), kw)) The desired object is created, however an exception is also generated. Traceback (innermost last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in ? File "autoadd.py", line 14, in addComment go(place, uname, pwd,kw) File "autoadd.py", line 6, in go return(apply(Client.Function(place, username=uname, password=pwd), (), kw)) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.0.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Client.py", line 225, in __call__ self.handleError(query, ec, em, headers, response) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.0.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Client.py", line 240, in handleError raise t, RemoteException(t,v,f,l,self.url, query,ec,em,response) bci.ServerError: 302 (File: Unknown Line: Unknown) 302 Moved Temporarily for http://aedmondson:8080/Ed/manage_addProduct/Comment/manage_addComment Whereas creating this object through the ZOPE management interface no error occurs, and we get redirected to the correct management page. Can anyone explain this exception and why it is being generated. On a related note: When trying to create an object with a already-used id (using the code above) through the ZPublisher.Client we get the following exception. Traceback (innermost last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in ? File "autoadd.py", line 14, in addComment go(place, uname, pwd,kw) File "autoadd.py", line 6, in go return(apply(Client.Function(place, username=uname, password=pwd), (), kw)) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.0.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Client.py", line 225, in __call__ self.handleError(query, ec, em, headers, response) File "/usr/local/Zope-2.0.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/ZPublisher/Client.py", line 240, in handleError raise t, RemoteException(t,v,f,l,self.url, query,ec,em,response) bci.NotFound: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Ed's discussions test</TITLE></HEAD><BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"> <TABLE BORDER="0" WIDTH="100%"> <TR VALIGN="TOP"> <TD WIDTH="10%" ALIGN="CENTER"> <IMG SRC="http://aedmondson/p_/ZButton" ALT="Zope"> </TD> <TD WIDTH="90%"> <H2>Zope Err (File: /usr/local/Zope-2.0.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/OFS/ObjectManager.py Line: 209) 400 Bad Request for http://aedmondson:8080/Ed/manage_addProduct/Comment/manage_addComment Whereas through the ZOPE management interface attempting to create an instance with same id produced this: <H2>Zope Error</H2> <P>Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. </P> <P> <STRONG>Error Type: Bad Request</STRONG><BR> <STRONG>Error Value: The id 1 is invalid - it is already in use.</STRONG><BR> </P> We fully except to get the error but the error from the web management interface is much more informative. How do we access this useful diagnostics from ZPublisher.Client. Thanks for your help. Thanks, Richard Ed

with-tag-problem ..
by Geir B Hansen 22 Dec '99

22 Dec '99

Hiyah zopistas. I am estranged to why i cannot solve this problem by myself. I thought I had finally come to peace with namespaces and objects, but, alas, no.. I have a method which makes a folder and creates users with local roles for it, based on submissions from a form. The problem is, I want to make another object, let's say another folder, within my newly created folder. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id',REQUEST.name)"> <dtml-call "acl_users.manage_users(submit='Add',REQUEST=REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "manage_addFolder(REQUEST.name, REQUEST=REQUEST)"> <---with tag to get within the newly created folder goes here----> <dtml-call "manage_addFolder('testfolderwithin', REQUEST=REQUEST)"> <--end the with tag-----> tried all variations of the with tag i could think of, but without success: <dtml-with name> <dtml-with "name"> <dtml-with _['name']> they all return 'name' as a string, not an object, and the 'testfolderwithin' is created in the parent folder, not as a child of 'name'... i also tried using ..-call "name.manage_addFolder .." with all the above variations. Then i get the expected error that 'name' is a string not an object. How can i make Zope understand that i want to reference the newly created 'name' folder (of which we do not know the actual name) as an object and not a string ?? -- Geir B Hansen web-developer/designer geirh(a)funcom.com http://www.funcom.com

RE: [Zope] Links inside of StructuredText

Your structured text is fine. It's the dtml-var statement that's tripping you up. Try <dtml-var stxtest fmt=structured-text> -or- <dtml-var stxtest fmt="structured-text"> Most of the documentation for structured text is either in the How-To (http://www.zope.org/Members/millejoh/structuredText) or in StructuredText.py (which is how I found out about the fmt=structured-text bit). Another Zope Site
by julio dinis 22 Dec '99

22 Dec '99

Hi Zopistas! We are happy to announce the birth of another zope powered site. It's a portuguese digital magazine with daily articles on different themes. Related to those articles are external foruns and websites which soon will be internal stuff when we finish the hacking on ZRTChat and ZDiscussions. It makes big use of zcatalog, kmnetnews and ODP viewer Products. Thanks for all the help we found on this mailing list and we hope you enjoy it.
