Change XML file with zope API
by Francois-Regis CHALAOUX 21 Dec '99

Hi XZoppiste, I'm new in XML but now I can do nice things with the example from Amos in xml.org. I bet on this format, it's too fun ... Now, I'm trying to change a XML via HTML form; I readed the suggestion at the end of the xml.org article and the source code from Builder, Node, XMLDocument, ZDOM but I cannot find a way to write the changes I created in the DOM tree into the XML data file. Is there an integrate solution ? Should I program something by myself ? FR

If Zope is running in debug model, all HTMLFile objects and external methods are reloaded every time they are hit. The only way to reload python code is to restart Zope. > I'm developing using a cycle like this: > * change .py file in lib/python/Products/* > * save changes > * restart Zope (takes 10 seconds :-() > > Is there a better way? You could try developing a patch that uses the python reload() method. -Michel

I don't know, perhaps all the objects your external method is chewing (I'm assuming an EM here) are not all objects if the same type, it's happened to me... My wrapped object suggestion may not be the case, but that's what it looks like from your traceback. What might be useful is to fire up Zope in DeBug mode and wrap your code with something like: try: pass # your code here... except: import pdb pdb.set_trace() When an exception gets raised, you'll find your Zope in the python debugger waiting for input (all other Zope services will be locked out, BTW). Now you can inspect your object to see what it really is: pdb> p obj <DTMLMethod instance at 8403ed8> pdb> type(obj) <extension class Acquisition.ImplicitAcquirerWrapper at 400fa3b0> pdb> etc... at this point it's kinda fun (in my sick and twisted world) to play around with the obj in question, examining all of its various aq_ properties, like aq_self, aq_parent, aq_inner, aq_inContextOf, and aq_uncle. > These were all File with a type of text/xml, so why the difference??? Not sure. -Michel

Your code is looking for a string, but finding a wrapped object. Zope usualy handles all of these details for you, but when you drop down to python you have to be aware of them sometimes. if you wrapped object is called 'obj', then the *unwrapped* version of that exact same object can be gotten with 'obj.aq_self'. You can do a simple test in python: if hasattr(obj, 'aq_self'): # then it's wrapped obj = obj.aq_self This will unwrap the object for you. -Michel

Expressions with strings with double-quotations?
by Dave Parker 21 Dec '99

21 Dec '99

Well, this may sound silly, but... I've been having a heck of a time figuring out how to do DTML expression which builds a string which contains a double-quotation mark in Zope 2.0. I've tried \", which is supposed to be the Python syntax for doing it, but to no avail. Any ideas? This is (theoretically) as in <dtml-var "'hello \" world'"> - whenever I try anything like this Zope misses the escape and terminates the expression (colorfully)...
