Sorting on integers
by Albert Kinderman 15 Dec '99

15 Dec '99

I am just learning to use Zope with MySQL. One field in my database is an integer, goal. When I get a list of items from the database and sort on goal, the sorting is alphabetical (15 before 2 before 23 before 5). How do I get the sort order to reflect the order of the integers? In the dtml below, sqlgetleaders is the ZSQL method that returns the list of leaders (lastname, firstname, goal) from the database. <table> <tr> <td>Last Name</td> <td>First Name</td> <td>Goal</td> </tr> <dtml-in sqlgetleaders sort=goal> <TR> <TD> <dtml-var lastname></TD> <TD> <dtml-var firstname></TD> <TD> <dtml-var goal></TD> </TR> </table> Al -- ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albert Kinderman California State University, Northridge albert.kinderman(a)csun.edu Department of Management Science

Re: Getting id of sequence-item

Some one else already posted the reply in another thread. But just in case, I find the following DTML method to be very useful. I name it as listFolderContent and put it in my Zope root. In short, the id() method is kind of tricky, and to get the string value, it's better to use _['id']. <dtml-comment> ------------------------------------------------- This DTML method lists the content of a folder (except the index_html object) ------------------------------------------------- </dtml-comment> <ul><li><a href="&dtml-URL2;"><b>/..</b></a></li> <dtml-in expr="PARENTS[0].objectValues()" sort=id> <dtml-if "_['id'] <> 'index_html'"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;">&dtml-id;</a></li> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </ul> ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

limiting access to ZClass
by Timothy Wilson 15 Dec '99

15 Dec '99

Hi everyone, I've got a relatively simple news ZClass. It's a greatly simplified version of Kevin's KM|Net News. I have a question related to permissions. Each news story will fit into one of a number of categories. Examples would include sports, academics, arts, etc. I would like to make one person responsible for each category. Right now, 'category' is a property of the ZClass. What would be the best strategy to make it so that 'John Smith' can only submit news in the 'sports' category. -Tim -- Timothy Wilson | "The faster you | Check out: Henry Sibley H.S. | go, the shorter | http://slashdot.org/ W. The answer is with __setstate__. > > Hmmm. This just might work. Thanks. I'm assuming then that this > 'upgradablility' must be designed into the 'version 1' of the product > in order to let it essentially be self upgrading? It's allways there in every persistent object, it's defined by the Persistence class. If you have special behavior your want to add to that, you can override it. > Are you aware of any working examples of this in action? Yes, the Catalog in 2.1 upgraded itself from the Catalog in 2.0: def __setstate__(self, state): """ initialize your brains. This method is called when the catalog is first activated (from the persistent storage) """ Persistent.__setstate__(self, state) self.useBrains(self._v_brains) if not hasattr(self, 'lexicon'): self.lexicon = Lexicon() The Persistent setstate must be called, then you are free to mess with the object as you please. In this case, the brains get initialized (because they are not persistent objects and must be re initialized every time the catalog comes into memory) and we sniff for a 'lexicon' attribute, which, if there isn't one, is assigned a new lexicon object. These last two lines are the 'upgrading'. -Michel

Namespace problem

Hi, I have a folder with an index_html that calls subfolder/methodA. methodA in turn calls subfolder/methodB. This fails miserably with a NameError. I've tried the following variants for the calls: In subfolder/methodA: 1.<dtml-if "methodB"> 2.<dtml-if "methodB()"> The above fail with NameError:methodA 3.<dtml-if "subfolder.methodB"> 4.<dtml-if "subfolder.methodB()"> These fail with NameError:subfolder What is the proper syntax? I'm also using methodB in a dtml-in tag. Andres Corrada

File-Uploading
by Ingo Assenmacher 15 Dec '99

15 Dec '99

Hello. How Do I handle File-Uploads (using DTML) in Zope? I want to give users the posibility to upload any kind of File to their User-Directory WITHOUT using the /manage facility. This would be done by a form. My question: how do I handle those on the server side with Zope? Any suggestions? Regards, Ingo. ------------------------------------------

Apache and Zope setup problem ...
by Darran Edmundson 15 Dec '99

15 Dec '99

I apologize profusely in advance - no doubt what I am about to report has been covered before. While my own ZServer installation of the latest Zope works flawlessly, our sysadmin is desperately trying to get Zope working with Apache (v1.3.9). If someone could look at the following setup and error snippets, I would greatly appreciate it. I need our site to run Zope so that I can migrate my ZODB over and publish it to the outside world. I don't know anything about Apache so, if possible, please try and phrase your response appropriately. Thanks in advance, Darran. ----- Traceback -------------------- Traceback (innermost last): File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 214, in publish_module File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 179, in publish File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 202, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: ApplicationDefaultPermissions) File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 151, in publish File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py, line 304, in traverse File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/OFS/Application.py, line 249, in __bobo_traverse__ (Object: ApplicationDefaultPermissions) File /tmp_mnt/users/optics/www124/public_html/Zope-2.1.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py, line 511, in notFoundError NotFound: (see above) ------ Zope error in html source ---------------- Sorry, the requested Zope resource does not exist.<p>Check the URL and try again.<p> <!-- [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:,t=application GET > <HR NOSHADE> -------- Snip from httpd.conf (apache version 1.3.9) -------------- ...
