Hourly restarts of Zope
by Jason Abate 16 Dec '99

16 Dec '99

I've noticed an odd Zope behavior while experimenting with the __setstate__() method. Zope is being restarted every hour (5:05 past the hour, to within a several seconds). I've scoured my machine for any cron job that might be causing this but haven't found any. Is this a known Zope behavior? Any idea of what else might cause this? -jason -- Jason Abate Hostway Corporation jason(a)hostway.com

hidden list
by Daniel G. Rusch 16 Dec '99

16 Dec '99

Once again, mind block: I would like to pass through a list called roles (built from a previous screen list box). I tried this: <input type='hidden' name='roles:list' value=''> but the result is: ['['] It should be: ['resale', 'salesRep'] I verified that the variable "roles" actually contains ['resale', 'salesRep'] by displaying: <dtml-var roles> Any thoughts as to what I'm missing????? GUF-SQL and Members area
by JB 16 Dec '99

16 Dec '99

Does anyone have any tales around getting GUF to authenticate out of a SQL connection. I've managed to get GUF setup and working. Then I went thru the How-To by 'hippy', but of course, now it doesn't work and I get no errors, reports, hiccups or rumbles. I simply get to login in, over and over again. I wondered if anyone had had some success with this and if so, could they share. Also, while I'm on this, could anyone tell me how DC handles the Members area at Zope.org. This is exactly what I am trying to do with GUF and would happily copy the Zope site method if that info were available. In fact, I'd be happy to document the method if there were some way I could get a heads up. Thanks jim -- In a five year period we can get one superb programming language. Only we can't control when the five year period will begin.

RE: [Zope] Organizing large projects

Hi Timothy: > This is probably a silly question, but here goes anyway. Not at all! I think it's a great question! > I am working on my first large (for money) Zope project. I > have created > a folder for the entire project, but have found that I am getting so > many objects in the root folder to the project that it is > becoming hard > to manage. > > My first inclination is to create sub-folders for each type of object > (e.g., SQLMethods and connections, forms, images, etc.) but something > tells me this is not a good plan. > > What organizational schemes have you found that work well for you? You might try something like this: MyApp UserFolder AppCommonThing1 AppCommonThing2 --Actors ActorCommonThing1 ActorCommongThing2 +--Admin +--UseCase1 sqlGetSeomthingForUseCase1 dtDisplaySomeResults +--UseCase2 +--UseCase3 +--Cook +--Baker +--CandlestickMaker Essentially this is a decomposition along Use Case boundaries. If you do this it becomes VERY easy to lay in Zope security on the application since you've already segregated all of the applications roles (i.e., Actors). Below the Actors level (e.g., the stuff below Admin) it might be overkill to assign different folders per Use Case. However, as we've seen, if the Actor has a LOT to do then it's worth separate folders just to keep the management/development UI sane. Does this make sense? HTH, --Rob

ZODB/PersistentMapping problem
by Paul Stevens 16 Dec '99

16 Dec '99

Hi all, I've been experimenting with the ZODB and Persistence modules following the ZODB-Howto. Using the example code I've seem to have encountered a problem in PersistentMapping.py: PersistentMapping.keys() does, apparently not support int keys: def keys(self): try: return self._v_keys except: pass keys=self._v_keys=filter( lambda k: k[:1]!='_', self._container.keys()) keys.sort() return keys will cause Traceback (innermost last): File "./hello.py", line 73, in ? myapp.testread() File "./hello.py", line 67, in testread print self.root.keys() File "/usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZODB/PersistentMapping.py", line 142, in keys self._container.keys()) File "/usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZODB/PersistentMapping.py", line 140, in <lambda> lambda k: k[:1]!='_', TypeError: unsliceable object when using int keys. Is this a bug or a feature ?? Using instead: def keys(self): try: return self._v_keys except: pass keys=self._v_keys=filter( # lambda k: k[:1]!='_', lambda k: str(k)[:1]!='_', self._container.keys()) keys.sort() return keys appears to do the job. But I cannot predict unforeseen consequences from this hack. ------------------------------- hello.py -------------------------------------- #!/usr/bin/python import Persistence import ZODB import ZODB.FileStorage class Person(Persistence.Persistent,Persistence.PersistentMapping): def __init__(self,name='',age=''): self.name = name self.age = age def __repr__(self): return """Person(name='%s',age='%s')""" % ( self.name, self.age ) class MySimpleZODBApp: """ A simple application object that manages persistent object's of the 'Person' class. """ def __init__(self, file='Data.fs'): """ Create a database, connect to it and get the root object out of it. (newbie)-Anyone Please Help me
by ozric 16 Dec '99

I have Been testing out Zope for possible use at work and I am really stuck. I have a simple dtml method called userid that gets REMOTE_ADDR and stuff. I set up a test_html page and put in it <dtml-var userid>. This works great. now I make a folder called methods with a user interface and acl. I put the useid method into the methods folder. I go back to the root folder and view test_html and it can't find the userid method anymore. So I try <dtml-var methods.userid> and that does not work. What am I doing wrong? Have I missed something basic. I thought that Zope would "traverse" the folders and find the <dtml-var>. I can do a find in Zope and find it in /methods/userid, Do I need to do something different to call the method ? SQL Methods and namespace question
by Rik Hoekstra 16 Dec '99

16 Dec '99

This problem has been bugging for a long time now and I can't seem to find the answer. I have a database that is searchable with SQL methods. in simple mode the SQL method and the Search Interface work well. Now the problem is when I have a form, which (i thought) would have to be extensible. So I thought to use record-based input forms, like this <searchitem.searchterm:records> # record 1 <searchitem.connector:records (AND/OR/NOT)> <searchitem.searchterm:records> # record 2 <searchitem.connector:records (AND/OR/NOT)> <searchitem.searchterm:records> # record 3 . . . At the moment this has only two fields, but it could also be extended to have a choice of other search fields (Author, Title, Publishing year....), but let's keep it simple. In theory this would be extensible ad nauseam The SQL Method then has the following code to build a query string <dtml-in searchitem> <dtml-if sequence-start>TITEL LIKE <dtml-var expr="'%s%s%s%s%s' %(chr(39), '%', 'searchterm', '%', chr(39))"> <dtml-else><dtml-var connector> TITEL LIKE <dtml-var expr="'%s%s%s%s%s' %(chr(39), '%', searchterm, '%', chr(39))"> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> Whatever I try, this fails with a KeyError for a Key 0 I tracked this down to the dependance of SQL Methods the regular REQUEST keys. If this is right, it means the 'searchterm' and 'connector' of the example would not be available which would explain the KeyError. I found this particularly hard to find out, as using SQL Methods is indirect and database errors may also get in the way. A few questions: - is my analysis correct, or am I way off track - if it is correct, why does it work this way - how can I make this work (I can come with workarounds myself, the point is they all lack flexibility) Rik

Content-type
by Terry Kerr 16 Dec '99

16 Dec '99

Hi, I am a little confused with how to set the Content-type of the method or document that is being served by zope. I would like to be able to set it to multipart/x-mixed-replace so that I can do some server-push. I have tried the following without success. <dtml-call "REQUEST['RESPONSE'].setHeader('CONTENT_TYPE','multipart/x-mixed-replace')"> <dtml-var "REQUEST['RESPONSE'].setHeader('CONTENT_TYPE','multipart/x-mixed-replace')"> When I do a <dtml-var "REQUEST['RESPONSE'].getHeader('CONTENT_TYPE')"> I just get 'NONE' terry
