Hi everyone, Has anyone developed a product that allows you to display current headlines from AP, CNN, or some other source on a Zope site? If not, does anyone know of a news source that makes its headlines available in some easily parsable form so that I can do it myself? One of our two local papers (Minneapolis Star Tribune) gave me permission to do it, but I would have to dig them out of their homepage. DTML Namespace confusion

Hi all, After reading the DTML namespace how-tos, I have to admit that I'm still somewhat confused by it -- especially on how to call another DTML method from another DTML method and pass the namespaces from one to another. I know this is probably a question that's been asked before, but after searching through all archives and Zope documentation, I haven't found a solution :(. For example, I have this simple folder structure: /myFolder (folder) /index_html (dtml method) /render_item (dtml method) where render_item is called by index_html several times but with slightly different parameters. I've been able to make it work by doing a call to "REQUEST.set" and set my input parameters accordingly like this (index_html): ... <dtml-if "some_condition"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('input_var1','value1')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('input_var1','value2')"> </dtml-if> <dtml-var render_item> ... But what I would really like to do is this: <dtml-if "some_condition"> <dtml-var "render_item(_,_.None,REQUEST,input_var1='value1')"> <dtml-else> <dtml-var "render_item(_,_.None,REQUEST,input_var1='value2')"> </dtml-if> I've tried the code above (this is something that I've seen in the archives) but it gives me back an error about the title key error(a property in myFolder) which is the first dtml variable displayed on render_item: ....<snip> Error Type: KeyError Error Value: title ...<snip> File C:\myzope.com\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Util.py, line 321, in eval (Object: render_item(_, _.None, REQUEST, render_format='default' )) File <string>, line 0, in ? ...<snip> So my question is: What are the (????) parameters make that make an exact equivalent (namespace stack-wise) of calling this: <dtml-var render_item> in terms of this?: <dtml-var "render_item(?????)"> And can I tack on my own namespace by passing it my own variables like this?: <dtml-var "render_item(?????,input_var1='input_value1')"> Hope my question is clear enough for an answer. AttributeError .. __call__

Hello, just as I thought that I had understood the acquisition concept (and successfully created some methods that do what I want) I encountered another problem: for testing i have the following infrastructure: /site/programm/index_html /show_vars (DTML Doc.) show_vars: Folder: <dtml-var title> <dtml-in "programm.objectValues(['DTML Document'])"> DTML Document: <dtml-var title_or_id> </dtml-in> or <dtml-with programm> Folder: <dtml-var title> <dtml-in "objectValues(['DTML Document'])"> DTML Document: <dtml-var title_or_id> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> now the request "http://localhost:8080/site/show_vars" works but http://localhost:8080/site/programm/show_vars doesn't. I thought that the second request would acquire the namespace of its parents, namely "/site/" and thus be able to find the requested object. (as it does with the "show_vars" object) However I get this error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __call__ ... what am I doing wrong this time? Oliver

You would store the stringified object ref as persistent data in your Zope object, and then convert it to an object handle each time -- this is not that slow as it does not involve a network call -- the stringified form is just unpacked and turned into a (host, port, obj) instance. The -true- solution to this is to write a proper Zope Connector. While Zope comes with an SQL one, it does support the creation of others. The sharing of a CORBA object reference across multiple threads is the kind of thing Zope Connectors are designed for, just as they share an SQL database session across Zope threads. However, (A) how to do so is not (yet) documented and (B) as I understand from Michel Pelletier, the connector architecture is undergoing major redesign with their client-paid work to *efficiently* multithread and support sub-transactions for the Sysbase SQL API. (A) doesn't stop me but because of (B) I've set my CORBA work aside for a couple of months, to let things develop in this area. Zope is still quite new and has plenty of gaps just waiting to be filled. That is the excitement of it. But considering that my core accounting system is CORBA and Bobo (old ZPublisher) based, CORBA support in Zope is very important to me so that I can migrate my financial apps into Zope, therefore a seamless CORBA (Z)Product will be forthcoming, probably in December. -Jeff Rush

Close, but what it actually can't assign is the socket for the monitor interface, which is not necessary to run zope. This might be a FBSD issue, or you might actually have something by chance listening on the same port (by default, 8099) that the monitor listens to. To just get it running, edit the start script to not run the monitor by specifiying the "-m ''" argument (that's dash-m with a pair of empty single quotes). You'll probably never use the monitor anyway, but this will get you started. -Michel

Hi all, delurking: So I just installed Zope yesterday, and I've been playing with Squishdot. I wanna join the mailing list(s) about Squishdot. Unfortunately, squishdot.org seems to be down--- has been for at least 18 hours. Can anyone verify that it really is or isn't down? srl

Could someone translate the debugging information?

I just compiled zope 2.01 from source on FreeBSD 3.3. No errors while compiling, but on startup, I get: Traceback (innermost last) file "/usr/local/share/zope/z2.py", line 471, in ? port=MONITOR_PORT file "/usr/local/share/zope/ZServer/medusa/monitor.py", line 264, in __init__ monitor_server.__init__(self, hostname,port) file "/usr/local/share/zope/Zserver/medusa/monitor.py", line 168, in __init__ self.bind ((hostname,port)) file "/usr/local/share/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 205, in bind return self.socket.bind (addr) socket.error: (49, "Can't assign requested address") It looks to me like it can't associate the IP address with the hostname.byu.edu. Admittedly, this is a local server, but its IP is registered with the local DNS. Any help? Thnx, VanL

ZClass permissions problem
