From SQL query to dtml-tree, anyone?

In my growing IT intranet app, I'd like to generate a tree based on one or more SQL queries. Purpose: Creating a notepad tree (which ressembles the Windows programme Treepad, which is a sort of notepad organizer) to be used by IT staff for destroying the Post-IT plague. Question: How do I handle data from one or more queries into a dtml-tree? One of my preliminary ideas was two tables in the db, one with the note-nodes and parentID in it and another with ID and childrenID's in it. Then simply query from tree root and out, a bit like working in linked lists. I'd appreciate any input on this idea. COM happens to work just fine with Zope :^) I've written a demo ExchangeFolder before that let you march into the Public Folders on your Exchange server as a little test too see if it would work. To me, the whole argument of "COM components are compiled, so they'll be faster" is sort of a lark anyway. If you wanted to, you could crank up your copy of VC++ and crank out a COM component for your business logic. The fact that people don't seem to be doing this (or even clamoring for info on how to do this) is telling. From the point of view of a web developer, the issue is not "gee, how many milliseconds faster can this COM component execute my query", its "how fast can we get this project done". This seems a simpleminded argument. If you are going to do something like a news server interface, you are also going to do the obvious design work beforehand that takes scale risks into account. I believe he entirely missed the most important points of your statement - "22 minutes", the implied department-level scope of your solution, and the fact that it worked for you. Is it possible to view a version which is not yet committed in an external browser? Also, using Homesite I can ftp edit the live website but is it possible to ftp edit the version? Thanks, John

Development philosophy...

Hi Is it better to have 1 . a single index_html document file at top which calls methods header, footer, content in subfolders for display or 2. multiple documents which only call header and footer and have their content included directly in the file. The difference between the two solutions is that in 1. I have a veeery global document and in 2. I have many, many documents... Referencing object in other folders

I have the following folder structure / (Root folder) --Images (folder) I simply reference images in the images folder by using: <dtml-with Images> <dtml-var myimage> </dtml-with> Isn't there a shorter way to address objects in other folders? I thought of writing a dtml method than can handle all requests for objects in the image folder, but how does one pass the request on for that method. I come from a delphi background so i think in terms of procedure procedurename(var image : timage) begin do something with image; end; Thank you Roché Compaan

Search with "OR"

It seems to me that I can only get ZCatalog to search more than one input field with an "AND". Is there a way to make it to do a search with an "OR"? Kam

WEBDAV clients

Has anybody come across a GUI based WEBDAV client that supports voiewing and updating of properties? So far I've looked at IE5 (which doesn't seem to support properties at all) and WEBDAV Explorer (java app from the University of California) which doesn't appear to support updates to properties. Need help trying to add objects to a Object Manager ZClass

I'm at my wits end with this one. ZClasses are driving me crazy. I want to have an instance of a ZClass for one Confera Topic in it. I subclass Object Manager to do this. I added Confera Topic to the list of allowable subobjects. When I try to add a Confera Topic however it adds it to the parent. In fact it doesn't even do that. This ZClass lives in another ZClass and the Confera Topic is added in the folder above the ZClass heirachy. I'm thinking that it is something to do with permissions but I'm at a loss. Pasting a Topic into an instance works but it just won't add it there. Can anyone help?
