Hi all. We're planning some Zope activities at the EuroPython conference next month in Sweden: http://www.europython.org/ In short, we have: o The Zope track, with over twenty presentations covering CPS, Silva, Plone, Zope 3, and other Zope topics. o A keynote by Tres Seaver, creator of the CMF. o A closing panel on CMS like last year. o A dedicated Zope Lightning Talks session. o A Z3 ECM sprint just beforehand with hands-on workshops for specific topics. This year has more Zope packed into it than any previous EuroPython conference. Particularly with the recent activities in Z3 ECM, there's lots of don't-miss stuff this year. Please register soon and get involved! More details for each of the items on the agenda. Zope Track ---------- The Zope Track this year has a spotlight on each of the CMS projects for Zope. Particular focus is given to the work being done with Zope 3. The talk listing is now up-to-date with the accepted talks: http://www.python-in-business.org/ep2005/alisttrack.chtml?track=694 Zope Keynote ------------- In keeping with the emphasis on content management for Zope, the keynote this year will be given by Tres Seaver. Tres is the creator of the CMF, upon which CPS and Plone are based. He will be talking about the impact of Zope 3 and the ongoing work to make a shared CMS layer in the Z3 ECM project: http://www.palladion.com/home/tseaver/obzervationz/europython_2005_invite Z3 ECM Panel ------------- This part is a bit of vapor-talk, as the panelists don't even know about this yet. <wink> Last year the track ended with a panel discussion in which the leaders of major CMS products for Zope discussed the impact of Zope 3. In particular, could the projects collaborate in a way similar to the CMF? The audience participated quite a bit and Jim Fulton led a very useful discussion. This panel then led to the Z3 Castle Sprint in 2004 and the Paris Sprint several months ago. We now have a project setup for the Z3 ECM effort: http://www.z3lab.org/ This year's panel will be a place for the Z3 ECM team to inform the audience about the shape of the project and solicit feedback about goals and objectives. Tres will be the moderator this year. Zope Lightening Talks ---------------------- Following the Faassen Format for lightening talks, this session is meant to be fast, fun, and slightly raucous. Lightening talks allow topics to spring up during the conference and get ten minutes of fame. Z3 ECM Sprint ------------- There are several sprints getting organized at EuroPython. The Z3 ECM team is planning a pretty serious effort to kickstart its activities. The Z3 ECM sprint starts at noon on Thursday, June 23 and goes through Sunday, June 26. Tres Seaver will be the overall sprint leader. Topics include: o Florent Guillaume (fg(a)nuxeo.com) is leading a session for a Zemantic-based repository, with relations covering versioning, multilingual content, and more. o Julien Anguenot (ja(a)nuxeo.com) will lead a team working on the the ECM workflow architecture and continue the existing prototype. Discussion about the WfMC standard and the 3 architecture layers (xpdcore/wfmc/ecmworkflow) plus the existing work on the Zope 3 trunk is planned. o Paul Everitt (paul(a)zope-europe.org) will lead a hands-on workshop for "Model-Driven Ajax". This will be a start-to-finish walkthrough of creating dynamic browser applications using XML, JS, and XSLT. Focus will be on a productive workflow for UI development. Hello The <dtml-return "RESPONSE.redirect('index_html')"> did the trick :) Thank you, Jo :) For David: this redirect was for exceptional situation - if user ID was changed the the whole page had to be reloaded with new ID, that was redirect('user_html?id=xxxx') style. All other variables should have been dropped. Hello, I have a web page, a form on it, and on form submit action (to the same page) I do some database actions (update some record, to be correct). The exact code looks like this (filename edit_html): ......... On #1 line I check if form variable is defined (it's defined in form, so if the form is opened for the first time, the form is naturally null, and if the form is submitted - it's defined to 1 [<input type=hidden name=form value=1>] ). #2 line let's skip for a moment. On #3 line I do database actions with result checking. (On a wider scope - the form is for user properties management - name, surname, address, login, phone, notes & etc.). The problem is on line #2. According to what's written, zope should drop everything and do immediate redirect to page index_html (ok, it's not where the first error appeared, I just managed to generate this error as the most clearest and best visible one), but instead zope calmly executes database actions and does other stuff till the end of the document. I’d be very thankful for any ideas... it's sad not to control own code :/ If you want, I can send you the whole code as well as to provide access to the live system. Zope version: 2.6.4-1.8. Webdav and emacs, eldav, nd problem.

Hi. We just upgraded to Zope 2.7.5-1.fc3, python 2.3.4, and now I am having problems with authoring "Script (Python)" (using ssh tunnel: "ssh -L 2001:localhost:8081 root@remotehost") I am using emacs, using eldav, using nd. I have traced the problem to this command issued by eldav in the process of saving changes to a file. "nd -S -p /localpath/script.py -a Zope http://localhost:2001/path/on/remote/server/script.py" The problem is replicated on the commandline. What happens is that the python script gets saved as Page Template with Content-Type: text/plain. ( I have tried nd's -T option, but to no avail ) As nothing else have changed, ( afaik ) I must assume there has been some changes made to zopes webdav support. Any ideas anyone? Hm.. I notice we have ExternalEditor (0.5) installed. Could this have any influence? Perhaps I will try using it :) Gaute

zmi issues

Hi! I'm doing an import of a large .zexp (from ZMI), and I see thay Zope is first loading it all in memory, than doing the work of importing it! I mean, isn't it a little bit *inefficient? :) Also, renaming a folder with a lot of zclasses in (40.000), takes a lot of time. After 10 minutes, it was still there... and this is a 2,4 Ghz P4 and 512 MB of Ram... Can this be fixed/improved? :) TIA! *

Well, when I run it, I am able to do the following: ------------------------------------ class A: pass class B(A): pass b = B() B.__bases__ = () print B.__bases__ ------------------------------------ Not so on the version that comes with zope. (B.__bases__ will remain unchanged.) This sounds like a very evil hack to me. What's your usecase? -aj

SQL Database Connections

Greetings, I connect to PostgreSQL from Zope and whenever I upgrade postgres on my server, my persistent database connections in Zope fail. I have to log in to the ZMI and reconnect the connection objects manually to restore the connections; is there a way to attempt a reconnection automatically when postgres goes down or is upgraded? -- Jonathan Daugherty http://www.parsed.org

Zope 3 for Debian?

Does anyone know what the timescale is for Zope 3 packages being put together for Debian? I have a project I'd like to work on, and I suspect that Zope 3 is a better bet than Zope 2 --- but Zope 3's not out yet. Is it worth waiting or should I just go for Zope 2? (No, I don't want to install Zope 3 manually. Modifying __bases__

Hey, I noticed that the version of python that ships with zope is restricted, such that when you create an instance of a class, you are no longer able to modify __bases__ for that class object. This is not the case with standard python. Is this intentional? If so, what is the reasoning behind this? Dan
