As Rob pointed out, I recently wrote some how-to's on the subject. I'm finishing up one this weekend that covers all three (inserting, updating, and deleting) that's almost a mini-tutorial. I still think they're a little bit rough, but Rob says they're good. :) The one I'm finishing up will show how to make an add/edit/delete interface that's in kindof a "spreadsheet" format using the new Zope 2 :records input type. It's a little bit more on the advanced side, but it will show all three concepts.

Please Help [was New to ZClass Questions]

On Thursday I asked the following questions and got no response. Would someone please offer some advice? Thanks. [old message] I am setting up a site for faculty committees on my campus. I have just started using ZClasses with 2.0.0. I set up a memberProduct so that the content managers can add members to each of the committees. So far so good. (I'm glad Amos is rewriting the tutorial - things change fast around Zope!). I then created an agendaProduct (and will create a similar minutesProduct). agendaClass is a folder, i.e. the Base classes include ZClass_for_folder and ZObjectManager. I also created an index_html method for the agendaClass. The index_html is intended to hold the actual agenda in html to be displayed when the agenda instance is viewed. When I create an instance, say sept16-1999, the instance contains the index_html which displays correctly, but it cannot be managed (and has no actual content) since index_html does not show up in the contents of sept16-1999. 1) What do I need to do to get index_html to appear in the contents of the instance? 2) When the instance is created, the creator is asked for an id and a date. I would also like to have the "text" box for the index_html contents displayed with the choice of direct editing or a "browse" button for uploading a local file. In that manner, the content manager can add the agenda all on one page, creating the instance of the agenda "folder" and the contents of its index_html at the same time. Is it possible? Thanks. Al P.S. When I created the memberClass (also a "folder"), I did not use ZObjectManager as a base class, and all the views were automatically included. When I created the agendaClass, I included ZObjectManager, and the views had to be added one at a time. Feature or Bug? [end of old message]

Aliasing property names

I have developed a ZClass for adding members to faculty committees. Members are "folders" with properties name, reason (appointed, elected by college, elected at large, etc.), department, term, and email. The id should be something like member1, but I would like the title to be identical to name. That is, the manager of the committee would enter the name of the person in the name box of the memberClass_addForm without seeing a title box, but the title of the folder would be set to the same thing as name. The alias would have to be persistent in the sense that if member1 resigned and the name was changed to the name of the new member, the title would also change. The reason is that in the contents page, the folder would be listed as member1 (Albert Kinderman). Similarly, in an Agenda product, the date should be aliased with the title, so that the folder that contained all the agendas would have a contents that listed agenda1-1999 (September 18, 1999). how to get at proprety sheet values from xml-rpc

Hello. I'm trying to do a demo of scription Zope with perl via XML-RPC. I have a Zclass based product I've created. It has an object-managerish type that has a propertysheet called tlp. tlp has a field called 'status' that I want to retrieve with xml-rpc. I can make an XML-RPC connection to the objectmanager object fine and called it's methods (ie. objectIds()) but I can't figure out how to get values out of that property sheet. The best I have been able to come up with is to create a 'get_status' DTML method in the object manager that just does <dtml-var status> but I was hoping to retrieve the value without having to add any thing to the product - thus proving that any zope site is scriptable via xml-rpc without having to have planned it out in advance. And I'm sure it is - I just don't know how :) Thanks for any help. ^Roman

When you're calling "createInObjectManager", you're calling a Method on the class itself. manage_delObjects is a method on ObjectManager instances to delete items that they contain. So in this caise, you want to delete the instance. You can do:    (where folderId is the id of the folder/object manager containing the object you want to delete. You could also do:  without the with tags.) manage_delObjects is what is called when you mark checkboxes in the Contents list of a folder and click delete. What's passed in _must_ be a list of ID's (even if it's a single ID, it must be surrounded by []). You don't need to pass REQUEST as the last parameter in this case. Many Zope methods that are primarily accessed through the management interface use REQUEST as a means of knowing they were accessed as a direct action (submitting a form) and should return an HTML page). When Scripting (using expr="..."), you usually don't need to pass it in. This holds for almost every method beginning with manage_.
