Hi everyone, I'm interested in knowing more about ZClient. Would someone be so kind as to suggest a few interesting things that ZClient is especially suited for? I'm trying to get the big picture and figure out where ZClient fits into the whole of Zope. Jim, are you by any chance using Brian Hooper's Sybase DA? If so, please note that this DA handles null values poorly out of the box. Setting object properties

I think this is a general problem I'm having with Zope - but anyway... I'm using the ZClasses Tutorial with the CDClass and I'm having problems trying to set the properties of the object. The result set gives me the 'old' artist value that I used when I first added the myCD object. CD Info: <dtml-call "myCD.manage_changeProperties({'artist':'Victor Ng'})"> <dtml-with myCD> Title: <dtml-var title> Artist: <dtml-var artist> Description: <dtml-var description html_quote newline_to_br> </dtml-with> More generally, is there a facility in Zope so that I can create variables in the DTML document that are _not_ properties of the DTML document? I just want to create a temporary local variable that I can assign things to, and then toss out. Am I not understanding something here? It seems like DTML scripts are very limited in functionality - they just seem to 'read' the output of ZSQL methods or Python methods. Vic

Some questions about "in"!

Hi,everybody, If i have the tree like: +index_html(DTML Document) -lib(folder) -lib1(subfolder) +introducation(DTML Document) +history(DTML Document) . . -lib2(subfolder) +introduaction(DTML Document) +history(DTML Document) . . Now the index_html has two line  and . If the lib1 call index_html, it will return the introducation and history of lib1,etc.But if i want to add something ,it must change the index_html. I don't want to change the index_html. I want to use "in" tag in the index_html and change the name of introducation and history to 0001 , 0002. If i want to add something in the index_html. I can just correct the name(0001,...) and add a new DTML Document in the subfolder of lib. How can i do that? Hope that you can help me to solve this question! Thanks, Elaine Kong. I use the cron to call a script called exec.sh ok? in this script i call others 5 python programs. These programs get specifics pages from the web using the ZClient, extracts the information that i need using regular expressions, and put it on a data base. More questions? I haven't done any benchmarking, yet, as I only downloaded zope yesterday. I have, however, generated an Apache module based on the pCGI stuff, so that you can have persistent connections to the zope server, and there is no overhead of exec'ing any new process. Everything runs inside of Apache space, and every time an apache process exits, the connection to zope is closed and cleaned up. This gives me the piece of mind of running on the Apache webserver, so I know the performance baseline, and I trust the stability and security of the webserver. I will make the module public just as soon as I add all of the handling for real configuration settings, such as virtual hosts, etc. Currently, there are just global zope settings across the entire webserver, regardless of host, directory, .htaccess, etc. Once it is done, you should get the baseline performance numbers of Apache, with whatever added latency the zope executions require. --sam -- ---------------------------------------------------- "Some Scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. Some nebulous number that I can invent for your statistical pleasure. Quite honestly you've asked a question which has no answer. Zope2 is slower. But not if you compare CGI v. Zope. Zope2 is a 100% dynamic page generation situation, whereas Apache is only serving static pages. So if you're site is 100% static, use Apache, but as it gets more dynamic, I think you'll find Zope2 to be faster and faster. If I wish to assign a value to Zope variable or property within a DTML method, I can use this = <dtml-call "REQUEST.set(variable_name, python_expression)"> But how can I use a DTML/Zope expression within the python_expression ? For example, the time can be found in DTML using this = <dtml-var ZopeTime fmt=%H:%M> I can't use the following = <dtml-call "REQUEST.set(variable_name, ZopeTime fmt=%H:%M)"> So, how would it be done ? Whilst on this subject, is it true that the python_expression above is limited to string and math services ? Say I have the following pure python code = import my_custom_module x = my_custom_module.my_function() How can I assign x to a Zope variable zopeY ? That is, how can those 2 lines of python be incorporated into the python_expresion below ? <dtml-call "REQUEST.set(zopeY, python_expression)"> Or am I trying to use too much Python within Zope ?
