Compile/install as one user, run as another

Let's assume that I compile up Zope as myself but I'd like to start the Zope daemon up as a sandboxed user (chroot-ed, etc.) What are the critical files that the sandboxed user needs to be able to read and write? I'd look at: (a) UserDB, (b) ZSQL Methods, and (c) a Database Adapter (DA) for your favorite, platform-capable database The UserDB will let you create Zope users that are stored in a relational database. ZSQL Methods and your favorite DA (e.g., SybaseDA, ODBCDA, etc.) will give you the connectivity to the rdbms. A lot depends on what you want to do with the user object. --Rob

possible bug w/ CatalogAware?

I have not posted this to collector yet. If it looks legit, let me know and I will post it. Please let me know one way or another, so this one doesn't get forgotten. Using Zope2 beta 4, I have ZClass which inherits from CatalogAware (Basic Tab says "Base classes ZObject, _ZClass_for_CatalogAware") A DTML method defined in ZClass which edits a propertysheet and calls the reindex_object() method of CatalogAware. (The point is to get the Catalog to keep up to date with edits on the ZClasses it is cataloging.) The symptom is strange. The dtml method is named editSelf(). Like this, it works as intended: <dtml-call "propertysheets.info.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('reindex_object')"> However, like this, it doesn't appear to call reindex_object, or it just doesn't do anything: <dtml-call "propertysheets.info.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> Any ideas on this? I would very much like to not be forced to issue a redirect to get the reindex_object to take place. I've come across the use of 'Zen' in Python contexts: this is the likely origin, I would guess... But there's no question that without a certain Zope-Zen, it's extremely weird to start poking below the surface of this puppy. Some days I have it, some days I don't. At the same time, the *way* it's difficult is also what makes it powerful. And when you "get it", it's extremely easy to do extremely powerful things --flexibly-- and in more than one way. The Zope Content Manager Guide does have a chapter on Roll-Your-Own Products that I've recently added some material too. It needs to be expounded on a lot to come to grips with ZClasses and advanced Product development. As another note however, creating your own Products and ZClasses is no less trivial that writing Zope 'Products' in python. All of our 'Guides' are written in FrameMaker. This can be converted into XML and stored in our CVS in that format instead of the native FM format. publishing headlines

Hey Zopesters, I'd like to publish science and technology headlines on our science department's Web site. The headlines would be culled from an external site such as the BBC. This would be akin to the Slashboxes on Slashdot. Being a Zope newbie, I'd appreciate it if someone could provide an outline to implementing this feature. I'm not sure how to begin. Questions about the future Zope-Concept and MySQL for NT

Hi there, i am new here and discovered Zope yesterday. It's a great product and exaktly what i need here for a private project... I hope this list is the right place for my questions (and not only the place to discuss personal things) and i apologize for any questions somebody posted before, but i can't find them in the archives... I am running on my testmachine Zope 1.10.3 Version with WinNT as a service with Apache 1.36. I still need Apache in front of Zope. Is it possible to run the newer versions of zope with apache also? Or do i *need* to use the internal webserver? And: has anybody a precompiled and workable version of the MySQL DB-Adapter: http://www.zope.org/Download/ZMySQLDA for WinNT?
