delete an absolute folder/file?

Hi! Through a form I pass on a complete url of a folder that needs to be deleted.  (where REQUEST['url'] is something like 'http://mydomain.com/folder/foldertobedeleted') is not working, because manage_delObjects needs an id, not a complete url. At least this is my understanding why it is not working. I cannot do  because I don't know 'folder' at this point, I can only get it through the form. How can I approach this? Thanks, Floyd

DateTime, Zope DateTime and PostGres

If some of you had problems converting date results from a PostGres DB, then I hope the following lines will help you out: Problem 1. Since the PyGreSQL Adapter is derived from the standard PyGres Module, it will return Dates as Strings. Thats annoying, but the developer of the pygres module is working at the problem. 2. The DateTime module that comes with Zope is not complete. It does not contain the very important Parser. Solution: 1. You can download and compile the full mxDateTime module. You will have an entire directory called DateTime. Rename it (to avoid conflicts with Zope's DateTime) to something like DateTimeNew. Now copy the directory into ZopeDir/lib/python/. You will be now able to call DateTimeNew from the modules you write for External Methods. 2. Create a module in ZopeDir/Extensions. For example: mymodule.py There you can put code like: import DateTimeNew def format_date_string(date_string, format): date = DateTimeNew.Parser.DateTimeFromString(date_string) return date.strftime(format) 3. Let's say the external method in Zope has the same name as the module function. You can then use it like that, assuming you have a Z SQL method called qry_get_date_of_data that gets all values from column 'created': <dtml-in qry_get_date_of_data> <dtml-var "format_date_string(created, '%a %b %d, %Y %H:%M:%S')"> </dtml-in> I hope that helps. What kind of object is bobobase_modification_time?

Its acting really weird.  doesn't work (produces an attributeError) but  does. What I really want to do is  but that causes a type error. Doing ZopeTime(bobobase_modification_time) doesn't work either. I thought bobobase_modification_time was a ZopeTime object. Whats the story?

Hi Bjoern, all I'm doing a similar thing, but just using a meta tag (is that bad?). I use folders a lot I guess, and define a property "external_link", eg as "http://www.wwf.com/bearhug.html". The logged redirection is done by calling a document "thru_external_link" defined as such:  ..loading the <a href=""> </a> site.. <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="1; URL="> <hr> To be logged:     ..and, uh, I guess you still have to decide what to do with the info. Linux tarball didn't include pcgi in the path specified (it was in Zope/pcgi/bin instead of Zope/pcgi). When I compiled pcgi all was fine, but it didn't work. Changing the reference in Zope.cgi to the /bin path fixed that. Sanity Checker says: sanity checker spits this out: module not found: /home/zope/lib/python/Zope If I cahnge the module (PCGI_PATH) to look like v. 1.0 (and to match the PCGI Docs) /home/zope/lib/python/Main.py the sanity checker says: error attempting: 'from cgi_module_publisher import publish_module' The real problem is that no matter how I try to access the web page I get: (102) failure during connect The pcgi.log says Mon Aug 9 16:33:14 1999 pcgi-wrapper: Connection refused (102) failure during connect No errors show up in the Apache logs. The discussion could not have happened a month ago because nobody had spent any serious amount of time with the syntax. Time is not an issue here, or at least it shouldn't be. We're talking about a feature of Zope that, once established, we'll be living with for ever after. Besides, migration problems isn't the issue. I don't see the difficulty. There's no particular reason why Zope shouldn't be able to apply the changes automatically, for example. My contention is that the new syntax is significantly less readable and far too verbose. It's not really about keystrokes (the new syntax three characters shorter than the SSI syntax). The new syntax detracts from the idea of DTML as an expressive language -- why, if I had to prefix every word I spoke with the word "dtml", that wouldn't be so great. Because dtml-eventually dtml-you'd dtml-have dtml-to dtml-learn dtml-to dtml-filter dtml-out dtml-the dtml-dummy dtml-words. But in the world of natural languages, "dtml-if" isn't a word; it's two words; we learn, by convention, to split such hyphenated constructs into separate words. Our mind works best with individual words. Why go against the grain and teach the brain a new thing? Afaik, there's no technical reason to prefer the "dtml-" prefix to something like "z-" or "dt". Is "dtml-in" somehow more unique in the world of markup languages than "dtin"? In the future when we're using XML namespaces, will we be writing "dtml:dtml-in"? Why the new DTML syntax uses a hyphen rather than a colon

I'd like to clarify a point that keeps coming up in the DTML syntax discussion, namely, the use of a hyphen, rather than a colon, as the prefix delimiter for DTML tags in the new DTML syntax. The existing DTML syntaxes are *not* XML compliant. DTML code is not XML well-formed in a whole host of ways. We absolutely intend, probably in the near future, to provide an XML variant of DTML. I think that there will always be XML and non-XML variants of DTML. When coming up with the new DTML syntax, I chose not to use a colon because I thought, and still think, that using a colon would imply XML compatability that simply wasn't there. Further, in the future, I want it to be easy to distinguish between XML and non-XML versions of DTML code. So, in summary, the new DTML syntax doesn't use a colon because it isn't XML. The future XML-variant *will* make use of XML namespaces and will use colons (e.g. <dtml:in>....). Jim Note that an advantage of the XML DTML syntax will be that people will be able to use whatever nick-name they want for DTML tags.
