Newbie Q: How to timestamp documents?

Hello, I'm struggling to learn Zope 1.10.3 running on my Debian Linux 2.2.10 box. I have a few questions: Issue 1. How do I get Zope to timestamp my modified document? >From the User Guides I've downloaded, I can do this within a document to call on the "Id" or the "title" of a document:  But I understand I am unable to use the "Last Modified" or "Size" properties from my workspace. It would be nice if I could do something like this in my documents: Last modified on . What is the workaround for this? Issue 2. Am I the only one to see that the keyword search function for the archived mailing list is sort of useless? I prefer a more powerful engine considering the question above is a simple question for most of you here. Issue 3. Are there any better documentation guides than the user guides posted on the Zope site? Of course I am generalizing here but I see the biggest problem with Open Source software is that the documentation seems to be lacking. Unless someone gets in early with the software development, the learning curve for simpletons like us are quite long. Thanks, -james-

The choice is based on preference. Zclasses are good for content managers who understandthe object abstraction but want to 1) develop programaticly through the web and 2) not use python. I personally would write your product in python, since I use it so much it's just second nature to me, and the bits of arcana associated with Zope products is second nature. The arcana is minimal however, just look at a few example products and you will see that there is a noticible pattern. Hi, Phil This sounds like a job for the "owner" role. My take on it is this: you can have a method (DTML or External) with an appropriate Proxy role to create the ZClass instance for the person. If you set the permissions such that the ZClass instances can be modified by someone with "Owner" role, then the users should be able to modify their homepage and not anyone elses. Redirecting

I'm extremely new to Zope.. so bear with me. I'm running Zope 1 using the Zope Server for HTTP, I need to redirect the root index to a folder within the root.. how is this done? (i.e. user hits http://www.myhost.com and gets redirected to www.myhost.com/linuxgt .. which is the root of my squishdot folder..) Thanks!

I had asked a question earlier today regarding redirection, this is how i handled making Squishdot the 'index_html' .. Interrogating DTML values from within an External method

I've spent all morning on this and searched the Zope and ZDP site to no avail. How do I get values of dtml variables defined in a DTML document from within an external method? <dtml-in question_set> - defined as a property in the enclosing folder. Use self.question_set - ok. <dtml-let qidx="_['sequence-item']"> - a variable created in the document. Adding a zclass based product to a folder programmatically

Hi all, I have created some zclass based products, Homepage and hpindex_html. When a user comes to the site I want to allow them to create a homepage product, I was hoping to do this via an external method, since I don't want them to have author rights on any other folder except the one created for them. So my question is how would this be done. I have a handle on creating default documents/ user folders etc from a products add form, but this has me stumped. TIA Phil phil(a)philh.org
