ZODB and quotas

Hi! I've been wondering how well ZODB deals with disk full conditions? Is it reasonable to put one Zope account quotas? (Side note: Is there any way to do something equivalent to ``du'' with Zope? Finding out how much storage is used by some Subfolder, even if not very accurate would be probably a "good thing". mySQL image addition

hi all, has anyone used mySQL to hold a number of images uploaded using Zope? If so how can it be done, i have tried using the normal INSERT statments into a BLOB field in the database but it only seems to insert a strange instances string?? Any ideas would be appreciated. Uh, so "pluggable brains" _is_ the ability for Zope to return records as instances of a user-definable class? It may be a vivid term, but descriptive it ain't. :-) I have a related question. I need to post-process a query result set using Python; I simply want to (a) go through each record and add (or set) a column, and (b) reorder the records. Can you give me a simple example of how to do this? As far as I can see, records returned by SQL Methods are instances of a special class "r" which descends from Record, Acquisition.Implicit and an optional user-defined class (the "brain", I guess). It seems that when such an instance is created, each column is set as an attribute on the instance. If so, I guess I can simply put the records into a list, add my column as a vanilla Python attribute, and reorder them as I wish, and then return them for use in DTML? Zope startup problem

Hello folks, I'm new to zope and so am I to python. But as zope seems to implement some things I dreamed up long ago I'm goint to learn both now. The find_staff object is a ZSQL method too: arguments are 'search_field search_item' (no , between them) select staff_number, title, forename, surname, department, job_title, tel_no, fax_no, email from staff where  like  order by surname asc If you look closely, you'll see that we're using Zope to tell the SQL query what field to search on (ie, is search_field = 'tel_no' and search_item = '%0191%' the query is actually: select staff_number, title, forename, surname, department, job_title, tel_no, fax_no, email from staff where tel_no like '%0191%' order by surname asc (this can be really useful!) The ZSQL query uses the arguments search_field and search_item, but is passed the Zope variables search_type and search_term. Within the HTML <FORM> we have [1]: <a href="display_all_staff?search_term=a%">A</a> <a href="display_all_staff?search_term=b%">B</a> etc. This part of the code allows all staff whose surname begins with 'a', 'b' etc. to be displayed easily. we also have a popup menu, allowing the user to select what field to search on: <select name=search_type> <option value="surname" selected>Lastname <option value="forename">Firstname <option value="department">Department <option value="title">Title <option value="job_title">Job Title <option value="tel_no">Telephone <option value="fax_no">Fax <option value="email" >Email </select> This is where the Zope variables search_field and search_term are defined. We also have another input type <input type=text name=searchit> Which is used for free-form text entry (ie a query that is more complex than the ones in [1]) If the person has put something in the searchit input (ie they want a more complex lookup), we need to do some Zope Voodoo..    All this does is to create a new variable 'search_term' to '%' + value of search_it +'%' ready for the ZSQL method. Zope2 has a *much* nicer way of doing this, but let's not muddy the water too much. They forecast "three weeks" until the beta will be available. The alpha is already apparently quite stable, this despite the fact that I have not yet gotten the alpha working on our Linux box yet. :-/ I strongly believe it has something to do with our setup rather than Zope itself, but it's hard to tell. Zope does not really change any functionality as much as it brings new stuff. And even on that point the two biggest changes are: - a better object database system, with support for multiple database backends (such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle) and concurrency (meaning several people can view a page exactly simultaneously; this may surprise you, but that isn't possible in earlier releases!). - support for classes (which is already in the 1.11.0 preview release I'm working with; a let me tell you, that's one really stable preview release!) The big thing that _does_ change things comes with the Portal Toolkit, but again this is simply about new features that we can exploit but -- until it does arrive -- have to implement ourselves. Mostly this involves memberships. And we can certainly implement all that without ZPT for the beta, I think. [ROADMAP:] Zope for Windows

Hi all! The version of Zope located at: http://student.uq.edu.au/~s341625 Works without errors on the following components: * ZClasses I am currently writing a Banner ZClass under Zope Win32 and so far ZClasses appear to work perfectly. * ALL contributed Products including SquishDot. * Has NO database corruption errors or errors in the management screens. Note that using a Linux Data.fs can cause weird problems (I didn't bother chasing this up). The catch is that you _MUST_ install it as described in the PCBuild\README.txt file otherwise it _WILL NOT_ work properly. Stuff to come... ---------------- Within the next few weeks I'll be releasing an extension patch to allow the use of the Python Imaging Library and OpenGL with Zope. These extensions will allow the creation of Banner Wizards like that available at: http://www.mediabuilder.com/ I think that they would be a 'cool' addition to the upcoming ZPortel kit.
