Hello All, I am quite new to zope, but it's great fun! However, I am having trouble figuring out how to do the following: I would like to have a user search my (MySQL) database for a particular record, then return the record values in an editable form. After the user has appropriately edited the record values, pressing submit causes the database record to be updated. The SQL is not the problem, but chaining the forms together so the second receives the values from the first as its defaults is where I am stuck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? TIA. Oops, forgot one thing: I also had to edit App/manage_tabs.dtml so that parent-links work correctly. Almost at the end of the file, change the tabs_path_info expression to "tabs_path_info('.', REQUEST.environ['SCRIPT_URL'])". It's not perfect, but it's an acceptable compromise for me.

Handling lists in requests?

Hi, is there a way to handle lists in requests properly? For Example: I have a form getting a list containing a few 'inner' lists from an external method 'ldif' (maybe that's already ugly). I want to give this list-construct via a request to an action form. <FORM action="show_it" method="post">  <input type = "hidden" name="adr_list" value="">  doing some stuff  The  action works fine, but when trying the same  in 'show_it' I receive an Error: Error type: InError Error value: Strings are not allowed as input to the in tag. nav trees

I'm using a tree tag for a navagation system which you can see at http://www.3e.org/elena/ . The problem I'm having is that if you click on the title of a folder (instead of on the +/- like you're supposed to), you end up with another copy of the site nested in the target frame. How would I make it so the folder names would *not* be links? Daniel Drucker

You can use the absolute_url() method to get an absolute URL to use for the link. Iirc the #tree tag also gives you an (undocumented, last time I checked) attribute called tree-item-url which you can access like so:  <a href=""></a>  How would unlinking the folder names solve your problem? I guess I'm confused as to the "accepted" way to get virtual hosts running under Zope, if such a thing even exists. I have two domains that I would like to use Zope with. A company I work for would like to host many domains with Zope. As far as I see, there would be two approaches to this on the Zope side: 1. Redirecting different parts of the URI namespace to different parts of Zope's internal database 2. Redirecting different parts of the URI namespace to different Zope processes. I can see where (1) would be beneficial for different virtual domains that need to access much of the same information, and where (2) would be beneficial for modularizing sites into independent units. I've looked in the archives, and looked at postings here, and really wonder whether the question I'm thinking about is the one answered by people posting various Rewrite rules here. Of course there is the parallel issue of which web server to use to redirect the URI namespace. I have Apache, and I'm interested in ZServer in the alpha version, but I understand that that is unsupported. However, for the sake of conversation and understanding, can the ZServer in the alpha distribution accomplish the same role as Apache, in redirecting different virtual domains to seperate Zope processes or seperate trees of the Z object database? Assuming that ZServer and Apache do or would eventually support this mode of operation, would ZServer offer better resource usage through its multithreaded nature?

The jury is still out on that questions. Zope 2.0 appears to be definatly much faster than 1.x w/ ZServer, but substantive analysis has not been done with Andrew's new mod_pcgi apache module. I suspect that ZServer and Apache+mod_pcgi will similarly. What ZServer buys you is the ability to do webdav (which Apache can also do, if you patch it) and especialy FTP and XML-RPC (protocols Apache can't, and never will speak). Example: How I handle Virtual Hosts and mixed static/dynamic serving

I am serving a set of websites with different domain names from a single server, using Apache (1.3.2)'s Virtual Hosts feature. For reasons too irrelevent to go into here, I serve some URLs (mostly images and other binary files) statically through Apache, and the rest from Zope. All dynamic content is served from a single Zope server, from root folders each of whose ID is the 'site name'. Most static and dynamic pages must be able to refer to each other with relative paths, so I can't always distinguish them by hostname, port, or URL prefix (the usual /Zope/ hack). All pages, including those from Zope, must be reachable with URLs which end in '.html', since the pages are being edited (and the links maintained) in Dreamweaver, which uses Windows file extension associations <choke>. On the other hand, I don't want to have to go around making Zope objects with IDs ending in ".html' I came up with the following framework: 1. I can force a static URL by prefixing it with the 'site name'. 2. No Zope object has a period in its ID, so any URL with a period is static and any without is dynamic (but see #3). The default homepage (a bare "/") is also static. 3. In Dreamweaver, all dynamic pages end in '.py.html', but they're stored in Zope with no extension. Apache strips all occurrences of '.py.html', and hands the stripped URL back to the client. 4. A dynamic URL is automatically prefixed with the 'site name', unless it already starts with '/Zope/' (for root access). For the site named "4am", I have: #1 and stop RewriteRule ^/(4am/.*) /home/httpd/html/$1 [L] #3, repeat and show to browser RewriteRule ^/(.*)\.py\.html(.*)$ $1$2 [R,N] #2 and stop RewriteRule !^/([^.]+)$ - [L] #4 RewriteRule ^/Zope/(.*) /$1 [S=1] RewriteRule ^/(.*) /4am/$1 RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) # All on one line: RewriteRule ^/(.*) /home/httpd/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 [E=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,E=ZOPE_RAW_URI:SCRIPT_URI,T=application/x-httpd -cgi,L] Now, one problem remains; Zope uses the path constructed by object traversal to construct BASEn and URLn variables and to auto-insert BASE links. This means that my framework causes "http://4-am.com/parrot/is/dead" to have an incorrect  of "http://4am.com/4am/parrot/is/dead". Following multiple links could lead someone to something like "http://4am.com/4am/4am/4am/4am/4am/parrot/is/dead". I had to patch ZPublisher to use SCRIPT_URI (indirectly, through ZOPE_RAW_URI) as follows: In ZPublisher/Publisher.py, around line 360, find line "URL=request.script". Directly after this line, insert: rawURI=request.environ.get('ZOPE_RAW_URI') if rawURI: def cvtpart(part, envget = request.environ.get): return envget(part, part) rawURI=join(map(cvtpart, split(rawURI)), '') then change "setBase(URL)" to "setBase(rawURI or URL)" around lines 380 and 460. Finally, directly before "request['URL']=URL" (around line 570-580), insert: URL=rawURI or URL This all *seems* to work just fine, although I may have missed a corner case or two (do I need to worry about __bobo_traverse__, for example?).
