> [Question about newbie installing 2.0alpha] For the same reason that we will *not* provide binaries of the alpha releases (and may only provide them for later betas and "release candidates"), alpha are certainly not a good place to start for someone new to Zope, especially if you do not have extensive experience with Python and whatever platform you are running on. This only begs to have all kinds of problems related to issues outside our control. I would recommend you start with 1.10.2, as there is plenty in there to get your head wrapped around before delving into the new features of 2.0 ... even once 2.0 is RELEASED, it is still a x.0 release, and therefore is really only for those people who NEED to be on the bleeding edge (i.e. because they'll need ZClasses, or some such), rather than a general populace release. Well, 2.0a is no less or more buggy than 1.11pre, as the main difference is the addition of the ZODB3 software, but you can continue to use your ZODB2 database. After much discussion internally, we decided to pull 1.11, since it was released mostly to get WebDAV and ZClasses out there, however we also had the ZODB3 to release, and that necessitated a MAJOR new version (backward incompatibilities, etc), so there will be no new "feature" releases for 1.x. In the next week or so we'll be posting some more information on our release model, and what versions mean. Chris

I saw your fix earlier, but I missed the crucial sentence: "Also, it completely breaks authentication when the user uses IE5.0 when trying to log into a secure area of the server. These Custom Error handlers are enabled by default." Duh. It could be a good idea to putting this up as a HOWTO on zope.org under the title "How to fix HTTP error messages and authentication with IIS 4". Thanks. Hi all. Well, we're all back and (mostly) recovered from Linux Expo. The show went _extremely_ well, and we expect a new surge of interest and publicity for Zope as a result. Thanks to all who dropped by to talk to us -- hopefully we'll see you in a bigger booth next year! ;) Now that we're back, we're focusing on a number of things, one of which is tackling most of the backlog in the Collector in preparation for Z2.
