Restricting access via IP address?

My thanks to Kent Polk for reminding me where I'd seen the bit in the Manager's Guide which allows you to use Zope's built-in security mechanisms by setting the 'Domain' rules for an acl_users user name (you need to set a dummy user for this purpose). Thanks also to Rob Page who (off list) took time out to show me how to do it "manually". I append Rob's DTML code. This next statement takes the REMOTE_ADDR variable and breaks it into four tokens using the period as the split character. The result is an array called IP_Address_Octets. This array is then stuffed into the address space of the REQUEST making it available later in this document. Hi, I was surprised to see some words of Delphi on this list... Therefor this question. Who is working with Zope, Python and Delphi? Maybe we can work on a sort of RAD application for Zope? Greetings, Tom.

In a simplified, contrived system, I have DTML Documents 'foo', 'bar' and 'spam'. The entire contents of these files are: foo = '' bar = '' spam = 'This is Spam!' This example works as expected. That is, the document foo contains 'This is Spam!'. Changing foo to be '' results in a KeyError on the name "spam". I get the same results if I use DTML Methods. What do I have to do to get "bar()" to work? Richard

read-only zope query.

For the production system I'm building, I intend to run the zope installations in read-only mode (setting the ZOPE_READ_ONLY env var to do so). Right now, if there's any changes to the bobobase, I have to reload the entire system - it would be nice if the read-only system could be signalled to say 'hey, go look at the .bbb file for additional changes', rather than having to reload everything... I'm also a bit paranoid, so I'm going to have a proxy in front of the zope which will block all attempts at a URL that matches http://.*/manage.*, just in case someone wants to try and be clever. I'm also going to be running up multiple readonly zopes with Apache load-balancing in front of them, just in case one of them blocks on a query to Oracle or (spit!) SQL Server. Anyone played these games before with tips to contribute? Anthony

Acquisition confusion

Hi all, I have a system which comprises a folder and three subfolders. They make a DVD catalog system (it's a test application to see how useful Zope is). The folders are dvd/owned, dvd/wanted and dvd/loans. Each folder defines the behavior of the owned, wanted and loans gadfly tables for the dvd system. Up until now I've been pretty happy with defining various sql methods, DTML, etc. to handle those tables. Some acquisition has been used to define methods for all three folders (these are placed in the 'dvd' folder). My problem is that I have now defined a DTML Document called 'line_info' in the 'loans' folder which figures a simple bit of text giving a summary of the availability of a DVD and the number of people waiting to borrow it. It does that by calling an SQL method a few times with different arguments. The SQL method is invoked like this:  This works fine when called as '.../dvd/loans/line_info?dvdid=11' or similar. When invoked from the 'owned' folder to integrate that info into the listing of all DVDs, things break. I embed the line_info with  This breaks because it can't find the SQL method that line_info uses. If I move the SQL method out of 'owned' into 'dvd' it still can't find the SQL method. I thought acquisition would be able to find the SQL method fine. Without the SQL method call, it all works. I even tried changing the SQL method call to "loans.info_wh_sql" with no success - that even broke it for the URL that worked before... Any ideas? Sessions' anti-CORBA bias is well-known within CORBA circles: he was lead architect for the Persistent Object CORBA spec, which was roundly rejected by implementers after his team delivered it, late and crippled. He has been actively promoting COM/DCOM ever since, is a frequent presenter at Micros~1 FUDfests, etc. CORBA is not "about" application servers, nor has it abandoned language-neutrality (the C++ mapping is the most widely used, and probabaly will remain so for the next 3-5 years in production systems). We should take pronouncements of ivory tower theorists with a large block of salt; the community is dedicated to the "rough consensus and _working_ code" model of standards development which enabled the Internet protocols total victory over the "sanctioned / blessed" ISO standards. <module 'Main'>

What does it mean when zope publishes simply <module 'Main'> when you visit your document root, and any other document: "Sorry, the requested document does not exist." I get this periodically, and don't know what's causing it. What does it mean and how do get my zope back to it's normal state? I also get it when I try to use zinit.py to start my ZServer. I have checked permissions on my var/ and they are OK. I checked to make sure that there are no zope or other python processes running that could be locking the database. Extended use of the calendar tag

Hi! I have a question related to use of the calender tag. If I have this code:  <A HREF="/some/place/form"></A>  Then - is there some way that the DTML method 'form' in /some/place/ can pick up what 'daylink' that was the caller, or is the only way to transfer variables between methods to use forms? I hope there is a solution to this as it would be fairly simple then to create an appointmet calendar kind of thing. Greatly appreciate your help! Sture Lygren

By coincidence I was just discussing with Christian Tismer why I had jumped off the CORBA bandwagon last year. The eccentricities of vendor implementations made it difficult to deploy applications in a timely fashion.
