You won't have any problem learning Python - a _language_. Be prepared, however, to readjust your notions of how applications are built, when switching to Zope. In Zope, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes between the incoming http request and the execution of your scripts/pages (compared to PHP). There is also a big difference in how you deploy your app(s) - for example, unless you are using Zope "Products" or "External Methods", you can pretty much say goodbye to the idea of files containing code. And unless you don't need control over RDBMS transactions, you'll want to avoid the Zope Database Adapters. Coming from PHP background years ago, I found these types of issues more difficult to adjust to than any language difference. That being said, Zope is as powerful/extensible as anything out there, plus it's Python, which you'll love once you try. People have hacked out ways to use PHP in Zope - I haven't tried any of them, but I can't imagine why you'd ever want to mix the two approaches. Stick PHP pages and a proxy to your Zope instance behind the same Apache if you have to have them "together". - Jim (supposed to be .02 but I only had a nickel) > But I'm willing to learn. Hello, Just wondering if anyone has any updates on the current plans for 2.8? I'm planning work for the next (fiscal) year for us, and I really could use new-style classes (To do multi-lingual objects) ... Is there a beta coming? A target date for a stable release? sir , thanks for that detailed solution. but i guess my problem was simpler. i cudnt explain it properly . below is the code for the html page generated by C_login.asp . I've to rebuilt this page in zope and as u'll see i've alraedy the javascript functionality that u've mentioned in 3rd soln. but the javascript is not at all being executed in zope. it will obviously give error as soonas u select some district coz the original asp is not there. but this is wat i wanted : as soon as i select a district the the corresponding user list in next combobox sud appear.the data are being fetched from Mysql using the ZSQL queries. ZMySQLDA uses the converter dictionary from MySQLdb, though it mostly bypasses MySQLdb. Since 1.0.0, MySQLdb returns BLOB columns as array(c,...), and previously it returned strings, so now it runs afoul of Zope, which expects a string. Long transactions and conflict errors

Hi, During a long transaction that reads lots of ZODB objects in order to generate a report, I get Conflict Errors, which is not a suprise as other users keep accessing some of the same objects. I would like to know if during a transaction there is a way to "unlock" objects from which I read some values but that I don't need anymore for the rest of the transaction execution. Thanks. Relations between objects in zope?

Hi there all, For a project to learn working with Zope I want to use relations between several zope objects. for instance. I have a trainee form. On this form I create a new course for people to take. This course has some prerequisites. Somehow I want to link this new course to the 'old' courses in the system. With mysql i just create a new table call it course to preq and fil it with the usefull stuf. But in zope I dont have ... clue how to accomplish this task. Do i need to fall back by using an Relational Database like Mysql OR can I achieve this with Zope? Yours sincerely, J.somhorst

Event handling problem

I'm using mysql database in my zope 2.7. While creating a page i needed to get data in one combobox after selecting data from another combobox. for this i need to do "page reload " using something like onChange() of javascript. Javascript won do DTML being a server side lang. I How do handle such events in zope in dtml. plz give a solution.
