shell command in zope on linux

memory problems

Hi to all, I run two instances of zope on a Sun sparc with Solaris 9. Data.fs of one instance is 2Gb big The actual problem is the lack of space on its partition => there is about 2 Gb of disk space left. One zope instance was running for 24 days and the 2Gb of disk space had been gone (although the Data.fs hadn't grown that much) Yesterday I made a copy on another server (as a backup) and restarted zope => it wouldn't start! So I removed all the extra files around Data.fs (that is all Data.fs.*), and retried to strart zope => then it finally started BUT: 1) the 2Gb that had gone during these 24 days came back => does Zope keep a temp file with a copy of Data.fs ? 2) the users sent me mail telling that they lost what they did for the 4 last days !!! => I thought Zope would gather all its temp (buffer) data into the Data.fs when it is asked to restart, does it do that or not ? What could I do to get back to the situation I was in before the restart (in terms of data => for my users) ? Should I try to restart with the removed Data.fs.* files (kept somewhere else) ? Since I used version 2.7.3 => I had problem with restart => I have had to remove the extra Data.fs.* files to manage a restart => But I hadn't lose data with that !!! Since version 2.7.3 was leaking I moved to 2.7.4, but I'm wondering if 2.7.4 has not another bug in storage? I am trying to get the re module into zope I have created a folder in the products folder called GlobalModules I have created a __init__.py in this folder it contains: from Products.PythonScripts.Utility import allow_module allow_module('re') This allows the import to work and the line: matchstr = re.compile(r"""\D""") # search for non numbers Zope does not error on the above line. however it does not like: phone_primary = matchstr.sub(r'',phone_primary) # remove non numbers for the string The error is Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access 'sub' in this context How do I get the matchstr.sub to work? Problems getting started with zope3

I thought "interfaces" is the file "interfaces.py" in the same directory as configure.zcml... Why doesn't it complain about not finding "foo" if I change it? Maybe you should request an export then. Ghost objects and memory usage

Hi all, I have a very long running process which causes the Zope process to eventually eat up all the RAM in my PC. I have tried changing the object cache sizes to no avail. Zope sticks to the cache parameters fairly well (it doesn't overshoot the target by much). The number of ghost objects do keep on increasing, however. Does a ghost object use the full amount of RAM (for that typical type of object) or is it only an empty shell? How do I get Zope to delete/unload these objects manually? B.t.w. I have tried numerous ways to do the long running process including: One thread that get_transaction().commit() every now and again Get new thread, do a few transactions, commit, close thread, wash, rinse, repeat (yes, I know the pitfalls with opening new threads into Zope - I end up reusing one connector from the pool over and over again). The above made no difference to the fact that eventually, memory will run out. The process makes changes to many objects and creates many new objects. It takes a long time to complete (typically a day or more). If I know the ghost objects does not use up memory, I can hunt for memory leaks in my own code, but currently the only thing that increases and increases is the number of ghost objects.
