This should be valid XML. The DTML engine then interprets the PI as "I store this string as a DTML command, then next time I encounter &ztml; I replace it with the results of the DTML command". I admit that this is less editable/readable than the current DTML syntax, but it's quite close, especially if the "store" PI is kept close to the &ztml; "placeholder". For the "simple" case of DTML commands within character data Chris' proposal still works: ...plain text ... <?ztml "var arg" ?> ... without the "cmd" assignment can be "executed" and replaced immediately without the entity stunt, and it is valid XML. - Problems Installing

hi! i'm trying to get Zope 1.9.0 final to run with an existing Apache 1.3.3 on a Linux machine. However, trying to access the Zope.cgi I get an error message "No such file or directory!" The support infos on zope.org didn't help but I managed to track the error down to the pcgi wrapper. Does anybody have a solution! I want to iterate over the list putting the values into a table I want to create a new column once I have passed the half-way point in the list of items. For example . . if the prop_list contains "a b c d e" then the table generated should look like this: <TABLE BORDER=0 WIDTH="100%"> <TR> <TD> a </TD> <TD> d </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> b </TD> <TD> e </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> c </TD> <TD></TD> </TR> </TABLE> which would display as: a d b e c - -- now, I'm probablly showing my ignorance of both html and Zope, but how do I do this?? Friends, it is ok to cross post things which belong to two mailing lists. But can we *please* take care about the subject lines? I get crazy when I have to read Re: [Zope] - Re: [XML-SIG] RE: [Zope] - XML-style DTML code Is it possible to always reply from the sig where the origin was? I will also propose to change Mailman to handle this in a better way. I don't see any differences, current syntax is as (il)legal as "xml" syntax. But why don't ask the PHP3 guys (www.php.net) or and do it the same way. PHP3 uses also <?php ... ?>. Oliver

- Using Zope with PCGI on a web hosting service

Hi, I just wanted to pass along some of what I've learned trying to get Zope working properly on a web hosting service where I don't have any admin level access to Apache. Assuming the hosting company has mod_rewrite installed (which pair, the company I'm using, does), you should be able to get things going. mod_rewrite is not as efficient on a directory-level basis, but it does at least function. The Rewrite config lines listed in WEBSERVER.txt need to be added to a .htaccess file in your document tree. There is a change that you need to make, however. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^Zope.cgi/(.*) - [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] Note that the RewriteRule (and the line below it) are on one line. When using mod_rewrite from .htaccess, the URL you are applying the RewriteRule to is relative to directory you're in. (In WEBSERVER.txt, it lists ^/Zope/, but the leading / is not necessary in this context.) The RewriteRule I've supplied above does not actually rewrite the URL. It just passes through the HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION variable. I had to do this because of another side effect of using mod_rewrite from .htaccess. If I had made the RewriteRule look like this: RewriteRule ^z/(.*) /path/to/Zope.cgi [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] Zope would see its URL as http://www.yoursite.com/Zope.cgi/, even though you accessed it from http://www.yoursite.com/z/. Consequently, you can't use the management interface, because Zope tries to load things through /Zope.cgi/ instead of through /z/, therefore the RewriteRule doesn't get touched and the authorization information doesn't make it through. Thus far, I haven't had a chance to play with the environment variables to try to fix this. (Though I'm sure it is fixable.) Finally, one last caveat: you'll need an updated ZPublisher. mod_rewrite tosses REDIRECT_ in front of a number of environment variables when used with .htaccess. The changes to Publish.py remove the REDIRECT_ references. If anyone has been using mod_rewrite like this and has any suggestions on making things work cleaner, they'd be much appreciated. Gang, Several people have complained that the patch I sent out didn't apply correctly, but it appears to be a mailer related problem, it's being munged somewhere along the way... so... here's a URL to it... it ain't a pretty thing, but there you have it.
