i think i have finally figured out why the code i published earlier was failing. apparently it's a serious incompatibility between my library code and zope. for now, i have to abandon zope and stick with zpublisher, which i'm only now beginning to get installed. basically, part of my library code unpickles a class instance from a stream over a socket. this works fine usually, but apparently it just doesn't work inside zope. zope's unpickler is "different" enough that it can't unpickle this class, and the code crashes with the error i reported eariler. i've tried changing my code to use a different unpickler, so as not to collide with zope, but it didn't help. i don't know enough about the persistant object system to fix the problem, and i'm running smack into a major deadline. if anybody has any ideas, i'd love to hear 'em.

Digital Creations is pleased to announce the availability of ZServer 1.0a1. http://www.zope.org/Download/ZServer/ This is the fabled Zope/Medusa integration and supports HTTP and FTP publishing! Have at it; enjoy it, break it, tell me what's wrong. Please remember that this is an alpha release. It seems to work reasonably well for me, but you may have problems. I am especially interested in how different FTP clients deal with the FTP server. Also please note that the interface for FTP support in Zope is preliminary. Please don't write FTP support for your Zope products and then complain when the FTP interface changes ;-) (The good news is that for most Products you will only need to write one or two methods to support FTP.) You forgot "Zope doesn't run under a privileged user ID". It sounds to me as if it would be simple enough, given the way PCGI-wrapper works, to run Zope in a chroot jail. Apache belongs in there, too. This does not close _all_ holes, though. Hi, I'm with a doubt about DTML processing. I'll try to create a simple example to demonstrate it. I didn't tested it, so it can be flawed. Suppose we have a product inside a folder: class Product: def __init__(self): self.aName = "My Name" template_html = HTMLFile('template') def process(self, REQUEST): """Process the product and return the template""" #process something here return self.template_html() The template.dtml file should access the class attributes, something like: <HTML><BODY>  Name:   There is no name  </BODY></HTML> I thought that calling http://mysite.com/folder/productId/template_html or http://mysite.com/folder/productId/process would return me the same output. Although the first one shows me "Name: My Name" and the second one shows "There is no name". Is this the correct behavior? If so, what should I return from process() to make it have the same output of template_html?
