The installer ran flawlessly on NT4 Sp3 I chose to integrate Zope as a service w/ my Apache config. The doc/INSTALL.txt needs to be changed-- start.bat does not exist, but serve.bat does -- furthermore, serve.bat is not the right way to starrt Zope as a service -- instead, one needs to go to Control Panels/Services/ and select the name of the Zope install and click 'start'. Running under Apache 1.3.0, /QuickStart and /manage don't work, but I'm not surprised -- Jeff Bauer has told me that 1.3.0 is broken in authentication. A note pointing out that the authentication of Apache 1.3.0 is broken w.r.t. Zope might save a bunch of complaints. [I then installed Apache 1.3.3, reinstalled Zope over *that* server, and I still can't get past either QuickStart or manage -- 404 in the former, authentication fails in the latter. Hmm. I suspect the problem is that 1.3.3 didn't really get installed. Anyone know how to *remove* a service from NT4?] Reinstalling Zope and running w/ builtin server works fine. --david

- Zope dies under mysterious circumstances

Thus far, I haven't been able to make Zope die, but it does die. I am actually running it now using the supervise program which comes with qmail's daemontools package (I get log rotation this way, as well). I know it died because I checked the contol panel. Going back into the log at about the time it happened, there are no obvious error messages or tracebacks, but I do see this: Publishing module Main Serving HTTP on port 8080 ... No core dumps that I can find. Python-1.5.1 (based on the Oli Andrich SRPMS, so the official patches are there), RedHat 5.1. Oh, btw, and I just realized I wasn't doing this either: When starting the server (serve.sh), python should be invoked with -u for unbuffered stdout and stderr I/O, unless this is being set somewhere within Zope (not sure how you would do this, though). I have my own xHTTPServer-based app, and logging works a lot better this way, particularly if you are writing to a pipe (which I am). My actual startup is: cd $ZOPEHOME env - PATH=$PATH \ supervise $ZOPEHOME/var/run /usr/bin/python -u serve.py 2>&1 \ | cyclog $ZOPEHOME/var/log & (supervise and cyclog are both in qmail's daemontools package. www.qmail.org) -- Andy Dustman You should always say "spam" and "eggs" ComStar Communications Corp. instead of "foo" and "bar" (706) 549-7689 | PGP KeyID=0xC72F3F1D in Python examples. Chris, I think it should be a long-term goal that SSL find it's way into Zope (and Python in general) to build scaleable applications. Perhaps we haven't seen much yet, but it may soon be necessary for servers to act as clients to talk to other servers across secure channels. The second beta is out! http://www.zope.org/Download/ The main new features of this release are the availability of binary releases and the availability of binary Apache distributions which are configured to work with Zope. For enquiring minds here's the change log: Zope 1.9 beta 2 In addition to various documentation updates, this release includes: New Features - Changed serve.py to accept ZopeHTTPServer command-line options. - Added a -P option to the ZopeHTTPServer to specify a file to contain the process ID. This allows a script to stop the process on Unix. - Added support for the environment variables, Z_REALM and Z_DEBUG_MODE to set an authentication realm and to enable debug mode. Bugs fixed - External methods were broken due to differences in Python 1.4 and Python 1.5 comparison semantics. - ZopeHTTPServer command-line environment settings were not available in os.environ. - Some class references were wrong in examples in the ExtensionClass documentation. - INSTANCE_HOME was not set correctly when the debugger was run with a relative path to the published module. - The #! line in the ZopeHTTPServer was hidden by the copyright statement and didn't have the right path. - A bug in pcgi_publisher.py caused file uploads larger than 1 MB to fail. - Migration(Apache/PHP/Mysql) to Zope

Does anybody know if is possible to import a current working website (which uses PHP and MySQL heavily) into Zope and for the moment use Zope as a site management tool while we migrate the site to 'Zope-native'? - Mailman problems fixed (I hope)

Hi folks: I believe that I have resolved the mailman problems that were keeping people from setting their mailing list options. Many people wanted to turn on digest mode, but were unable to do so. Thank you Ken Manheimer who sent me a mailman patch. If anyone is still having list related problems, please let me know. Thanks for your patience, especially considering the volume this list has been generating. I can definitely understand wanting to turn on digest mode ;-) -Amos P.S.
