I see that all you all get external methods working. I tried it like in the docu, but get Errors in the add process. </head> <body> Sorry, an error occurred.<p>  </body> </html> I have created the directory Zope-1.9b1-src/Extensions and have the module file in this dir. And if I understand Extensions.py right the file is found and loaded. If I klone the steps in a console I can load the file and also look for co_argcount. I have also tried to make the extension available in a MyProduct dir in the Products directory, but Zope thinks that this should be a zipped file. (*.pyp) How do I create such a file. just gzipping *.py or *.pyc does not function. Sorry to ask so simple questions. By the way, is someone working on a diary-like module for a Zope user? This seems to me as a nice starting app. TIA, __Janko Hauser

- evaluation of external methods

When external methods are added or updated, the Python code in their module is evaluated in some (obscure to me) way. The current working directory at the time of evaluation is not the same as the current working directory when the method is invoked. This has forced me to move some things inside of functions instead of at the module-level. Is this a bug or a feature? --david

Different directories can provide their own sidebar_contents properties, or acquire them as they choose. I didn't create this scheme, but I belive the reason a property was chosen, rather than just iterating over the Documents and Folders in the current directory, is to allow you to have control over exactly what links appear. BTW, I consider the sidebar_contents arrangement pretty advanced DTML, (it would have taken me a long to time figure it out.) So don't worry if it seems complex, it think it is. -Amos P.S. When we have Document Objects as opposed to Document Methods, you could set a property on documents to mark them for inclusion or exclusion from things like the sidebar links.

- ZopeHTTPServer.py: Isn't it /usr/bin/env ?

There's a small inconvenience with ZopeHTTPServer.py in 1.9b1: The line specifying the interpreter uses "#!/bin/env python", but env is more commonly in /usr/bin/env (all other scripts in Zope use /usr/bin/env). More important, the line is not the first line in the file (it's prefixed by the license plate), and therefore is ignored (at least with the shells I know). Perhaps this could be fixed ? thanks, Gregor

Right. self is your hook into Zope world. From self you should be able to get anywhere you'd like to go. Just to be clear, self is the folder in which the external method is called. External Methods are methods of Folders. Since External Methods are acquired, self is not always the same Folder in which the method is defined--it may be a child Folder. Right now there is no sandbox or restricted execution environment for External Methods. You can do literally anything that you normally do in Python. So you have the power to do both great good and great evil. I´m trying to learn how to work with Zope, by cloning the Zope-homepage, so far I got many hints by viewing the dtml-source. Unfortunately one (at least I) cannot reveal all details. For example, when I didn´t find the source of "sidebar_contents". Also are there more informative debugging-info´s available, than I can look up in the html-source? regards Joachim Schmitz

- Access to sequence-item?

I think it is a bad decision to use the '-' in special names. Here is my problem:   How to access the sequence-item? this does not work:  How to acces to the outer_list.sequence-item? This does not work:  neither does this work:   This indicates, what is going on:  inserts 41!!!     I think it would be nice, if the  would support an 'as' attribute:       Or am I missing something???
