While there is a tendency to leap straight to Python, there are advantages to the facilities of DTML scripting, the Lever, and Classes. In this case, since DTML works pretty hard to disallow or prevent various ways to hose a process and/or machine, it is more trustworthy than straight Python. --Paul

Years of intensive cgi scripting, db interactivity, defeating evil doers and saving galaxies have taught me few things. Cold water is always on the right ;^) Nyuk! Generaly when I have seen the "document contains no data" it's either a malformed header or a failure to populate a a page before sending it back to the browser. So I look for the documents Zope should be serving and I can't find any. Where is "manage"? I don't see anything for Zope to serve a request with. My Zope var dir contains only four files, data.bbb data.bbb.in data.bbb.trans and serve.log. data.bbb and data.bbb.in are executables and have dtml TAGS referencing files I assume are supposed to be in the var dir but are not. tags such as <!--#if error_message > Should I reinstall ZOPE or are these files available elsewhere? Just a WAG, but the best I place I can find to start. DAve.

- Acquisition question

Hello, This is just a tricky Acquisition question, not a bug, low priority. I have a Folderish (I guess the Digifolk call this a Folderoid, but the source code makes it seem Folderish :) object which is an application wrapper around my own heirarchy of custom folders and widgets. In my app wrapper I define a number of Document objects that are preloaded in my __init__ method. There are three main classes, Trove, TroveFolder, and Trove Item. I have inserted a couple TroveFolder and TroveItem objects in my example tree below to spice it up a bit, only the Documents come loaded by default. Trove Index (Document) FolderIndex (Document) ItemIndex (Document) TroveFolder TroveFolder2 TroveItem TroveItem2 Now for example, TroveItem2 has an index_html method like this: def index_html(self, REQUEST): if REQUEST is not None: return self.ItemIndex(self, REQUEST) This fails. I figure it's because I'm not using ItemIndex in the right context, and Acquisition cannot the method in the top level folder. Also, I'm worried that even if it did the Document would be out of context, thinking it was in the root folder instead of two levels down, right?? So I'm thinking I need some kind of mechanism with __of__ and aq_parent to ascend recursively up tree until it finds an ItemIndex method. Before I try such a beast, am I barking up the wrong tree? Has Acquisition truely escaped me? Michel

- Problem w/ 'add document': "The parameter, id, was omitted..."

Like Christopher Petrilli, I started having problems w/ adding documents to my Zope server (the one at work, not the one at home). Briefly: the "manage_addDocument" (or manage_addFile, but not _addFolder) forms cause the method call when 'add' is pressed to be called with no arguments. After talking with Chris, who had to reinstall his entire Python distribution to get it to work, I focused on the HTML of the manage_addDocument web page. I'm no HTML expert, but I stumbled on the fact that if I changed the HTML FORM tag to *not* have the ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" attribute, then the form submission worked. With that ENCTYPE set, the URL called by the SUBMIT button didn't include any of the parameter values. Alternatively, if I specify the full URL "by hand" by e.g. adding ?id=spam to the URL, it works fine. I'm using Python 1.5.2a2, ZopeHTTPServer.py. Does anyone have an idea as to how I should go about debugging this? Has anyone else seen this problem? Update: This started happening on my Zope server at home, which worked just fine a few days ago, and I didn't change anything, really I didn't! I'm stumped. - How do I publish this object?

I believe this was asked yesterday, but I don't recall seeing an answer posted yet, so I'll ask again, in case it wasn't noticed by those with enough Zope Zen. While I was in the shower last night (what is it about the shower with this group?) it dawned on me that what I don't get about Zope is how to publish an object in much the same way I would have done using Bobo. As an example, appended is a small module, cal.py, which uses the Unix cal command to generate an ASCII calendar. How would I make that available through Zope? Seeing how that is done would be a big step forward for me. Are there any publicly available sites that use Zope? To get a feel what can be done with Zope this would be of great help. What about installing a life demo at www.zope.org? Or even better make www.zope.org an Zope site... I think a site that provides an excellent highly interesting (highly regarded) service that is based on Zope would be a *very* good advertisement for Zope. If I see good site I always want to know "how they did it". I didn't know it when I signed up with my webhost but having access to the C compiler came in handy. When I request they add Python 1.5.x to their support they said okay if they get enough requests. So with a little help from c.l.p. I compiled Python 1.5.1 to my directory. :) I can see it will come in handy with Zope. :) Thanks for your patient help. Jimmie Houchin
