- Are there any life demos of Zope?

Are there any publicly available sites that use Zope? To get a feel what can be done with Zope this would be of great help. What about installing a life demo at www.zope.org? Or even better make www.zope.org an Zope site... I think a site that provides an excellent highly interesting (highly regarded) service that is based on Zope would be a *very* good advertisement for Zope. If I see good site I always want to know "how they did it". I didn't know it when I signed up with my webhost but having access to the C compiler came in handy. When I request they add Python 1.5.x to their support they said okay if they get enough requests. So with a little help from c.l.p. I compiled Python 1.5.1 to my directory. :) I can see it will come in handy with Zope. :) Thanks for your patient help. Jimmie Houchin

Hurrah for Hiway and RapidSite! I've always thought it shameful for the consumer to be at the "mercy" of their webhost. We find the SQL integration (formerly known as Aqueduct) in Zope to be pretty spiffy. And it is decently documented...not the programming stuff, but certainly building web front ends to databases. --Paul

As mentioned by Amos, External Methods are a simple way to plug functions into the object system. You still, though, have to "add" the External Method to the folder you want to bind them to. Perhaps, though, there should be a slot for doing old-style Bobo programming. For instance, we could have a special top-level directory called "/Bobo". Anything modules placed in that directory can be old-style Bobo applications, whose functions are automatically bound to the top-level folder. Thus, creating a module /Bobo/Skip.py: ========================= """Simple Hello World""" def hello(self,name): """self is bound to top level folder""" return '<P>Hello, %s' % name ========================= Automatically makes the URL /hello?name=Skip functional. Perhaps the Control Panel could have a folder containing all imported modules that lets you reload them. - Where is misc_/sample/item?

In the sample product, Product.py defines # Specify a relative URL for the icon used to display icons: icon='misc_/sample/item' In the MailHost product, MailHost.py defines icon='misc_/MailHost/MHIcon' Where are these things located? Images, and perhaps all objects, should have a method named something like absoluteURL, that returns some kind of absolute URL. Franky, I'm not sure how this will work, but your comments have convinced me that it should work. Note that it may only work in the context of a web request. Note that objects will not store their URL because an object may be referenced from many places and therefore may have more than one URL. The value returned from absoluteURL will likely take into account the way the object was accessed. (There will likely be lots of magic involved; best not think too hard about it or keep the glue gun handy. ;) 2. The str for an image will use absoluteURL and will use size methods too, if there every are any. 3.
