Zope or Python blocking on select()

Hello, Running Zwiki 0.36 on Zope 2.7.4-0 on Python 2.4, glibc-2.3.4-3, kernel 2.4.22-nptl (fedora core 1). Whenever we hit a ZWiki page, there is a delay of 8 seconds before the first page is sent. Subsequent objects for that request are sent in reasonable (i.e. sub-second) times. Every individual page request seems to cause this delay. I have tried all 3 ways of setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL variable, tried recompiling Python using the '--with-lib=' option for the different thread libraries, tried Python 2.3.3, and all this still gives the same result - a nasty 8 seconds delay. Has anyone else run into a delay like this? Is anyone using a similar kernel/Python/Zope combination successfully? I have pasted a brief excerpt from strace of my Python process, any advice on what may be happening would be welcome. Several suggestions have been made for how to check that zope is running. There was some discussion of what pattern to look for. Generally, the "ps" method can be adjusted to your system by doing a plain "ps ax", looking for the line that seems to be the zope process, and then using a grep for that pattern. e.g. ps ax found ZoPe-foo then use ps ax | grep ZoPe-foo This (and the other method proposed) still have the disadvantage that it cannot detect a hung zope process, of course. To do that from the command line, create an very simple page containing the string "all-is-alll" (for example) with a URL like http://127.0.0.1/i_am_alive and then from the command line use something like lynx -dump http://127.0.0.1/i_am_alive | grep all-is-well Greg

Can't make an AdvancedQuery with NOT

I just installed AdvancedQuery 0.6 in my Plone site, as it seems to be the only way to do boolean search expressions. Here's the query I'm trying to make: query = Eq('Title','kitchen') & - Eq('Subject','deck') The idea, obviously, is to get all docs with keywords of "kitchen" AND NOT "deck" I'm getting this as an error: AttributeError: Eq instance has no attribute '__neg__' This query works as expected: query = Eq('Subject','kitchen') & Eq('Subject','deck') Installation details: Plone 2.0.5 Zope 2.7.3-0, python 2.3.4, darwin AdvancedQuery 0.6 No IncrementalSearch No ManagableIndex Any ideas? I don't recommend using 2.4 Python 2.4 is not a supported version for Zope 2.7.4. no-login account for local users

Hello, I'd like to create a default nologin user account for users accessing pages from local network (10.*.*.*) so that they do not have to authenticate. I know that you can add additional IP contraints once you have a normal (password based authentication) account. Could you give me any hints? Regards, r. Kotowicz.

Well, I checked my logfile, and my child processes have been running for 2 days. No process has exited, and no process has been created, so globally my ZopeHandler Zope instances are up since Apache startup. About the ZEO persistent client cache, I had not thought about it. It looks like my ZopeHandler Zope instances did not need to flip their cache yet (because they are set to 64M I think), so no file was created until now. But if a file needed to be created, then it may be a problem, as each of the instances would try to use the same filename. I will try to investigate this when I have time to. I am not sure we can share anything between instances. I mean, each instance runs in a completely separate process.
