Zsql and oracle CLOB column

Dear list, While inserting data into one of the oracle table's CLOB column using zsql via python script, we observed that zope process (running in debug mode) is getting terminated/killed if length of text data >= 4094 with message on command prompt Input string too long, limit 4096 Whereas for text data with length >=4001 and <=4093 - It throws following error OperationalError on <Products.mxODBCZopeDA.ZopeDA.DatabaseConnection "DSN=test_clob_oracle" thread 3672/3672 at 0x3ac3530>: ('HY000', 1704, '[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01704: string literal too long\n', 6113) python script details: print context.clob_zsql_test(i_description='A'*4095). return printed zsql details - INSERT INTO CLOB_TEST(description) VALUES(<dtml-sqlvar i_description type="string">) Table/column details : id - number description - clob Where as if we use mxODBCZopeDA execute API with following insert query syntax string_value = 'A'*5000 query = """ INSERT INTO CLOB_TEST(document) VALUES(?) """ result = test_connection.execute(query, string_value) it works fine even with text data having length > 10000 After googling on the same found that execute method uses/support parameters binding (is it similar to oracle bind varibles ? thats may be reason why it works well). Do we have similar support for zsql or is there other workaround ? Configuration/other details are as follows : RDBMS : Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 ODBC used : Oracle ODBC which shipped with Oracle-Client-10g Python adapter : mxODBC Python ODBC Interface - 2.1 Related Zope Product : mxODBCZopeDA-1.0.10 Zope : Zope 2.11.1-final Python : python 2.4.4 Operating system : win32 ZEO setup : Yes No of ZEO nodes : one Threads per ZEO node : 10 Any kind of pointers/suggestions would be of great help. Error packing database

Hi all! What if I want to read Philipps book about Zope 3 – shall I download the Zope 3 tarball from zope.org 3.3.1 from 2007-01-14? This looks pretty old and outdated. Zopeproject does not install all packages that are needed for the examples in the book. Any hint how to install Zope, if you want to follow the book? juh

Redirecting from inside a TAL macro ...

Hi All: I have a macro that is used in several other page templates. In some circumstances, I need to redirect to another URL. Can I do this using python:here.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(<NEWURL>) so that the master page that uses this macro is redirected to the NEWURL? Regards, G

Pyexpat and Zope 2.9.5

Dear list, I am trying to get Zope 2.9.5 compiled with Python 2.4.3 using the python-ldap module. I compiled my own Python and copied the site-packages, so the ldap module is available. When I run "import ldap", the module is imported correctly. Then I run "configure" in my Zope folder, which gives me the notification that I need pyexpat installed. However, I do have the pyexpat.so exactly in the run path that it should be (the path is also printed in the error message). Is this a known problem or could you give me advice what I am doing wrong? If I compile Zope with the --ignore-expat option, then I get the following error message ('xml.sax.drivers2.drv_pyexpat'), so this is not an option for me. Thanks, Fabian

Script (python) config

We upgraded from zope 2.9 to 2.10 and in the process upgraded plone as well. There's script that simply returns a list of groups to which a user belongs. In the old system both users in the system and not in the system (ie ids not in zope) would get HTTP 200 when invoking the script thru a URL (obviously the non-system users would get an empty list).. Now when system users invoke the script the script returns the list of groups to which they belong, however, when a user not in the system invokes the script it returns a 401. Is there some authentication/security setting that we're missing that's preventing non-system users invoking the script? We may have overlooked some small thing (file system permissions, ZMI permissions, authentication settings etc) when configuring things in the upgraded environment....any ideas would help. That solved the confusion. I wasn't aware that gadfly support has been removed from later versions of Zope. We certainly wanted to migrate to PostgreSQL due to other problems with gadfly. At present, the website is being used continuously and I see no other way of fixing the issue quickly other than migrating to a higher version of Python. I am not sure how long the migration to PostgreSQL would take as I could not find any method to import a gadfly database into postgres.I am afraid I will have to export data from all the tables and import them back into Postgres and change the scripts using the connection. -Vimal

Should I use a recent version of Zope 2?

Dear all, We had our original website setup on Zope-2.7.0-b2/Python-2.3.2. The website had to be moved to a different server. In order to keep the setup as similar as possible, Zope 2.8.7 was used with Python 2.3.4. There were some issues recently due to which Zope cannot open a connection to a gadfly database and reports it as corrupt with 'bad marshal data' error in the logs. I found this to be a Python problem rather than Zope as the same thing happens when trying to connect the database using Python 2.3.4. The database however, can be opened with newer versions of Python > 2.4. The same error had occurred before in the logs but never caused much downtime. Hence we are considering using a newer version of Python for our website. Python 2.4 is supported from Zope 2.9.1 onwards. My question is should I use 2.9 or use the more recent stable version 2.11.3? Will there be any advantages/disadvantages? Many thanks, Vimal
