IOError one first running zope
by Steph Smith 13 Aug '04

13 Aug '04

I have a fresh install of Zope 2.6.4, installed from the Gentoo ebuild. I ran "zope-config -zpasswd", and then started my instance from the script provided in /etc/init.d (all default Gentoo). Now, when I go to http://localhost:8080 I get the following message: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Error Type: IOError Error Value: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '//usr/share/zope//zope-2.6.4-r1/lib/python/App/dt ml/zope_quick_start.dtml' -------------------------------------------------------------------- The page then offers the following troubleshooting advice, none of which seems to be actually helpful in this case (although I could be missing something!) * The URL may be incorrect. * The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. * A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. I've checked /usr/share/zope//zope-2.6.4-r1/lib/python/App/dtml/zope_quick_start.dtml and made sure that the user running zope (in this case 'root') has explicit permissions to the file, which it does. I've checked the logs for this instance of zope, and there are no errors reported. I'm sure the problem is something embarrassingly easy, however I can't think of what else to check. I notice that the path mentioned begins with '//', although I can't imagine that that would be the problem (its odd, but still valid). I've also been searching google for more information on this problem, however the only hit I found which seemed to possibly be the same problem was in Japanese :( I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advise they might be willing to share. TIA, Steph

Using Zope Page Templates for forms (tabs of products)
by Pupeno 13 Aug '04

13 Aug '04

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have a product for which I am adding another tab, or lable or whatever you call it, that is, I added a dict to manage_options. Now, what I'm doing in fact, is turning a script and a template I did to a tab to integrate it in the product. I've done everything with zpt (I try to avoid dtml) but everything I read on doing this is done in dtml, so, my question is how do I do this kind of stuff: <dtml-var manage_page_header> <dtml-with "_(management_view='Bounce')"> <dtml-var manage_tabs> </dtml-with> and <dtml-var manage_page_footer> in ZPT. And how do I make a call similar to this: DTMLFile('dtml/manage_bounceForm', globals()) but for a zpt (currently, I have the zpt as an object, created in an instance of the product, not as a file on the product, and I'm calling it like this: return self.importerTemplate(self, REQUEST, message=None) Thanks. - -- Pupeno: pupeno(a)pupeno.com - http://www.pupeno.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBHN2jfW48a9PWGkURAkkrAJ9GCO5aG12qq8CCBseMSTDpNTJ9VwCdEASy Dg3gyiSVgsI0OHldOyzMnBo= =Rsqw -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I created a emergency user with zpasswd and it asked me what kind of encryption I would like either SHA or CRYPT. I noticed not all the users have encrypted passwords. I have two users the admin and my user on the basic Zope UserFolder of a fresh install of Zope 2.7.2-RC1. "admin" has an encrypted password because I created it with zpasswd, but my normal user was created from the ZMI and has a plain password. Why isn't this included by default? Or at least an option on the manage_addUser method to choose either or not to encrypt the password? > >>I have a Plone-site that has a bunch of registered users. You can't get them from the air A good external method to start: http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/1008698882 to get the password, just call the _getPassword method of the user object. Regards, Josef

Zope 2.7 and scheduling
by Gitte Wange 12 Aug '04

12 Aug '04

Hello, I have a product based on Xron that runs nicely under Zope-2.6.x. Now Xron doens't work under 2.7 so I guess that's why my program isn't either. I have googled for other schedule programs working with Zope-2.7 and found ZopeScheduler. Now while I can find ZopeScheduler in the collective cvs repository, it is impossible to find TimerService anywhere (which ZopeScheduler depends on). All the stuff should be found at http://dev.legco.biz but that website is down :-(( Is the project discontinued or moved to some other website? I really need some schedule stuff in Zope. Greetings, Gitte Wange

ZOPE has runzope.bat ZEO lacks runzeo.bat in win32
by Rodrigo Dias Arruda Senra 12 Aug '04

12 Aug '04

Hi, testing Zope/ZEO Client + ZEO Server in Windows XP (not happy about XP though) I noticed that mkzopeinstance.py generates a nice runzope.bat from a skeleton template: runzope.bat.in. But, there are no runzeo.bat counterpart! So I made a little runzeo.bat.in: <runzeo.bat.in> @set PYTHON=<<PYTHON>> @set ZOPE_HOME=<<ZOPE_HOME>> @set INSTANCE_HOME=<<INSTANCE_HOME>> @set SOFTWARE_HOME=<<SOFTWARE_HOME>> @set CONFIG_FILE=<<INSTANCE_HOME>>\etc\zeo.conf @set PYTHONPATH=%SOFTWARE_HOME% @set ZEO_RUN=%SOFTWARE_HOME%\ZEO\runzeo.py "%PYTHON%" "%ZOPE_RUN%" -C "%CONFIG_FILE%" %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 </runzeo.bat.in> Just dropping that at <<ZOPE_HOME>>\skel\bin should do the trick, but it seems that mkzeoinstance.py does not use skeletons! I guess it would be a bit awkward to have runzeo.bat created by mkzopeinstance.py instead of mkzeoinstance, right ? I don't know if is there any interest in convert mkzeoinstance.py to use skeletons (instead of code embeeded templates) ? But since it was being discussed the importance of enhancing Windows users experience with Zope, I believe runzeo.bat would be a plus. So would be a zopectl counterpart, but that's a whole new ball game <wink>. regards, Senra

How do I access the Standard Cache Manager API in Zope?
by Braun Brelin 12 Aug '04

12 Aug '04

Hello, I'm trying to write a small python script which will use the Standard Cache Manager's RAMCache class API's (ZCache_set(), ZCache_get(), ZCache_invalidate(), etc.). In my zope site (Running Zope 2.6.1) I've already got a DataCache object created. I'm trying to do something like the following: PortalID=context.portal_url.getPortalObject().getId() dcache = context.restrictedTraverse(PortalID + "/" + "DataCache") I then try and access various functions like: dcache.ZCache_get() dcache.ZCache_set() etc. and I've tried dcache.RAMCache.ZCache_get() dcache.RAMCache.ZCache_set() etc. this, however, doesn't seem to work since I get attribute errors for the methods. Anyone able to tell me the proper way to access the methods? Thanks, Braun Brelin

RE: [Zope] Apache Authentication Problem
by Jim Kutter 12 Aug '04

12 Aug '04

Will - This is an issue we've had as well. One thing I would suggest trying is to develop some layer either on top of zope that handles the requests to download the files. An external method or even a Zope Product which reads files off a non-web accessible path, then feeds the data to the web client would suffice. However the benefits of having Apache serve the files is lost. -jim -----Original Message----- From: Will Smith [mailto:witisi@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2004 11:14 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Apache Authentication Problem We currently have an applition that uses apache to serve alot of large files out of the filesystem (650MB each). I would like to convert the web interface over to zope to unify our site. I would prefer to keep the large files in the filesystem, primarily because we already have tools to manage them there. I also am very comfortable with apache serving these large files, and really do not wish to put this task up to the ZServer. I currently have zope setup behind a VM in apache. I have created a simple product that lists the files and creates the links to the files served by apache. I am able to integrate this info into our site very nicely. Problem... Since zope is not serving the files, I cannot prevent users from accessing them. I can control access to the links, but if you cut and paste the URL apache will server them to anyone, without even logging into zope. Any Ideas? This isn't working either - my suspicion is that the page > never processes the created script element. I've done this before and had worked. You have to create a python script at the same level or on the acquisition path of your template: script id: myScript script=\ """ <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> //Your javascript comes here function someFunction(someParameters){ //line1 //line2 //line3 } </script> """ return script Then called it from the template like: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" tal:replace="structure here/script"> //Some javascript </script> It should work. > > 3) call the database directly with javascript. I have no idea how to > do this or if it can be done and I really don't want to do it this > way. If you want to put external data on your script, then you could do a query to the database and store the result on a list or a dictionary, then, create the javascript arrays with the data. Something like: externalData=your_database_query_method(yourParameters) result=['<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">\n'] result.append(' var dataArray=new Array(') i=0 for element in externalData: result.append('"%s", ' % element) i+=1 #Deletes the last comma result[i]=result[i][:-2] result.append(');\n') script=\ """ //Your javascript comes here function someFunction(someParameters){ //line1 //line2 //line3 //Here you can access dataArray[i] } </script> """ result.append(script) return ''.join(result) Call it like on the first example. Then you will get something like: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> var dataArray=new Array("elem1", "elem2", "elem3"); //Your javascript comes here function someFunction(someParameters){ //line1 //line2 //line3 //Here you can access dataArray[i] } </script> The function must be called on the handler onchange of your combobox as you would do it normally on html. Windows Carriage Returns
by hpinson＠indepthl.com 12 Aug '04

Windows carriage returns in ZPT documents are becoming the bane of my existance. Can anyone suggest a way to search a file for this and convert them to UNIX style carriage returns. Preferably in Textpad, but a UNIX/Linux based technique (Emacs?) would be helpful too. I can't be the only one experience the explosion of this problem...
