Help with ZPT and dynamic javascript
by Stephen Nesbitt 12 Aug '04

All: Here's my design problem - I have a form with two drop down menus. The values of the second drop down depend on what the user selected in the first. The values of both fields are dynamic - pulled from a database when the form is published. I am trying to figure out how to enable this using Page Templates. My thoughts are: 1) use tal:replace to generate the script element and its contents - this doesn't seem to work with Zope ignoring everything within the script tags. 2) use a python script and tal:replace to generate the script element. This isn't working either - my suspicion is that the page never processes the created script element. 3) call the database directly with javascript. I have no idea how to do this or if it can be done and I really don't want to do it this way. 4) ?? What simple clue am I missing? When you add the events on the manage interface, can't you change this value? On my case it works. Greetings, Josef

FDF data from apache
by Tuttle, Gene 11 Aug '04

I have a FDF (Adobe forms data) page on an Apache server. If posted to this site the formname and field/value pairs it will return FDF data. This will open the Adobe form and populate it with the data passed. Some of the forms have a number of fields. When the length of the form name and all of the data are added up it may push the limits of sending the data using url (GET) so I would like to use POST. The problem is I am unable to make this work in ZOPE. I tested this by first creating a form and using Apache this worked. I then copied the source of the document into ZOPE DTML document. This works but not what I want. I need to store the data to a database first then display the adobe form for printing. I then tried using a Python script and DTML document to post to this site but this returns to me the text of the FDF file. I tried setting the Content type inside the DTML document using: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'application/Vnd.fdf')"> This caused Adobe to try and open but did not display my form. Here is the source of the form document: <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE> New Document </TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> <form Method="POST" action="http://mplssrv5/cgi-bin/fdftest.pl"> <p> Deposit <input type="text" name='dep_amount'><br> Buyer <input type="text" name='buyer.name'><br> address <input type="text" name='address'> <input type="hidden" name='PDFform' value='http://mplssrv5:8080/SAS/PDFforms/rottlund/mn/mn_1025_4_98'> </p> <input type="submit" name="submit"> </form> </BODY> </HTML> any advice? Thanks Gene Tuttle.

Re: [Zope] Windows Carriage Returns

Thanks. I also found that Textpad and Homesite let you convert by saving in 'UNIX' format. The command line utility should be good for batching. No, I'm not experienceing this problem in Zope itself, but am to a small degree in Plone 2.0.3, and to a large degree in 3rd party add- on products for Plone. I'm getting to the point of converting all ZPT files before installing the product as a safeguard. Otherwise it is very hard to track down all the obscure instances. I hope developers will make the extra effort to check their products for this before sending them out the door. It is easy to forget a file or two, that was edited on Windows. RE: [Zope] Apache Authentication Problem
by Jean-Francois.Doyon＠CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca 11 Aug '04

I do much of the same thing, although I don't worry about authentication, since anonymous access is OK in my case. Jim's option is one, another would be to see if you can write something that could check Zope credentials, to kind of mimick mod_auth and related standard Apache modules. I suppose this could be a combination of mod_python and ZClient for example. J.F. -----Original Message----- From: zope-bounces(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-bounces@zope.org]On Behalf Of Jim Kutter Sent: August 11, 2004 8:56 AM To: Will Smith Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Apache Authentication Problem Will - This is an issue we've had as well. One thing I would suggest trying is to develop some layer either on top of zope that handles the requests to download the files. An external method or even a Zope Product which reads files off a non-web accessible path, then feeds the data to the web client would suffice. However the benefits of having Apache serve the files is lost. -jim -----Original Message----- From: Will Smith [mailto:witisi@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2004 11:14 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Apache Authentication Problem We currently have an applition that uses apache to serve alot of large files out of the filesystem (650MB each). I would like to convert the web interface over to zope to unify our site. I would prefer to keep the large files in the filesystem, primarily because we already have tools to manage them there. I also am very comfortable with apache serving these large files, and really do not wish to put this task up to the ZServer. I currently have zope setup behind a VM in apache. I have created a simple product that lists the files and creates the links to the files served by apache. I am able to integrate this info into our site very nicely. Problem... Since zope is not serving the files, I cannot prevent users from accessing them. I can control access to the links, but if you cut and paste the URL apache will server them to anyone, without even logging into zope. Any Ideas? Can you make an alternate folder the default?
by Joe Goldthwaite 11 Aug '04

11 Aug '04

This is probably a stupid question but once again, I haven't been able to find the answer myself. I've been doing everything in root. I don't want to have to specify the sub-folder name in the URL. Right now, they can to go http:\\EIS and it takes them to the index_html object tin the root folder. I ended up having to move everything into a subfolder in order to get the LDAP authorization working. Now I have a sub folder called EFS so to get to my application, the users need to go to http:\\EIS\EFS. Is there any way to make a sub-folder the default point for the URL? In other words, if you go to http:\\EIS\xxx can Zope look in the EFS sub-folder for xxx?

Hi, I'am looking for a Zope product to make a timetable for a week for students in a semester. I have found at zope.org NuxWidgets, but I could not get them running under Zope 2.7.1. My wishlist includes a changability via Browser like in the Corporate Calender product. Does anyone know such a product ? Thanks in advance Sigbert Klinke

Early Reminder: IRC Session Sep 14, 11a (GMT-4)
by Rob Page 10 Aug '04

10 Aug '04

Hello everyone: Thanks to those that participated in the IRC session today. The next IRC session is scheduled as follows: - Tue, Sep 14, 2004, 11a - 12p (GMT-4) Agenda (Standard topics) ------------------------------------- - Update on Zope 2 and Zope 3 - Update on zope.org team work - Update on zope.org docs effort - Zope Bug Day update (tentative) Other agenda topic suggestions are solicited. Please email them to irc_agenda_topics(a)zope.com I had asked Chris Withers to talk about the progress made on a recent Bug Day. I inadvertently skipped over that agenda item which is a shame because a lot of progress was made and we missed an opportunity to recruit volunteers for the next Bug Day. We've added that as a tentative agenda item for the next IRC. If you have the time, please think to participate on the next Bug Day!! "See" you in September!
