Hi Chandrakantha In the acl_users I created User " Author " and their global passswd and gave them Owner and Manager Roles. I want them to be able to create folders and edit the contents - but for now it's only a pilot site So I will re-do the what and what they cannot do once the requirements have been set. (Nothing for Now) but I want to know beforehand (digest and understand) where and how I set these is the doc's on the settings. So when I'm brief I can exstablish the requirments . existing groupware products on zope

i couldn't find any existing groupware products which run over ziope... similar to egroupware or opengroupware.org. something that has the usual items such as "files, links, projects, calanders, mailing lists, ..." zope is ideal to build such user-centric groupware and project managemebt applications and i must be missing where they are. i want to avoid using apache/mysql/postgresql when Zope already is running with capacity to spare. tariq

Zope and Javascript

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to open a new browser window when a certain condition is met. A variable would be set to a certain value and placed in either the REQUEST object or the SESSION attribute of the REQUEST object when this condition was met. I know how to do this part. However, I am having trouble figuring out how I can execute some Javascript code when this condition is met. In particular, the Javascript code should open a new window and display a customized message in this window. I also have the Javascript code to do this particular task. How do I call this Javascript code though? Is it possible to place Javascript code in a DTML method? If so, then I could call the method when the condition was met and this would execute the Javascript code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - Asad

Hello, I'm pretty new to Zope (even newer to Zope on Linux) and I'm having a few problems getting it installed and running properly. I've successfully installed and run Zope, but to achieve as a non-root user, I must install Zope and an instance in my '~' directory. This is great, but I do need to be able to run Zope at port 80. As a side note, many of the docs on Zope.org treat doing this as a minor issue, and seem to promote the idea of running it at 8080. I'm a little confused by this. I understand that this has some security advantages, but I don't understand why anyone would do this under normal circumstances. I mean, no one goes to www.blah.net:8080 Pardon me if I'm being ignorant, but I would think this would be the exception, rather than rule. Zope.org gives me the impression that 8080 is (or should be) the rule. Anyway, back to real life. In any case, I decided to try installing Zope to the default location, assuming that this was the best general location, being the default and all. Everything works fine with: # ./configure # make # sudo make install The zopewiki Installing 2.7 site, likes to put the instance in a users /home directory, so I try: # /opt/Zope-7.1/bin/mkzopeinstance.py -d ~/scs-instance -u root:pw I get: [Errno 13] Permission denied: './README.txt' Ok, between zopewiki.org and the doc/INSTALL.txt, you'd think I'd have this licked, but nooOOOooo. :-) Any help would be greatly appreciated. After this they have me chown and chmoding instance directories, and I'm looking forward to what goes wrong then. Flash tutorial for ZClasses

Following the discussion on the possible usefulness of a flash tutorial for ZClasses, one might conclude that: "Some people think it is easy to work with ZClasses and some think it is not." This conclusion alone should indicate a need for more or better tutorials on ZClasses. I am sure Dieter is quite right when he says that: "-- but you are using ZClasses because your Zope programming skills are not yet developed enough to implement full blown Zope products." However, I am not sure that every Zope programmer would have the need/desire/ability to become able to develop his/her own Zope products. For these programmers, ZClasses might be an handy option. When it comes to a flash tutorial in general, I see one challenge: The possibility for others to participate in the development/improvement of the tutorial. Within the Zope book everyone can add comments. This constantly serves to improve the book. Such an option in a flash tutorial would contribute to ensure the tutorials further life within the Zope community. Børge
