Cannot see a site from WAN side.

Hi, everybody. I'm a newbie of zope and got some problems to see my web site from WAN side. My original domain is example.com. When I put example.com as my browser URL, Zope Quick Start is seen. I installed zope to gentoo linux. Then I changed HTTP_PORT=8080 to HTTP_PORT=80 in z2.py. My server address is ddd.example.com. So, when I put ddd.exmple.com as browser's URL, I see Zope Quick Start. I created three folder's in Root Folder with Create public interface checked. It means index_html is created in folder /aaa, /bbb and /ccc. Then Virtual Host Monster is added to create aaa.example.com, bbb.example.com and ccc.example.com so that WAN side peaple can see the content of folder /aaa, /bbb and /ccc as the subdomain way. In the mapping field: aaa.example.com /aaa bbb.example.com /bbb ccc.exapmle.com /ccc aaa.example.com and anything.example.com show Zope Quick Start, but not what I expect. What is wrong with my setting?? I appreciate any help to solve this problem. Thank you. Taito Horiuchi

Thanks for your input Lupa. I agree with you. However, I'm facing a metadata element and not an index. So (to me) acquisition should not take place here. If what you said is also valid for metadata elements, it means that you can NEVER call an object the same name as a metadata element?? !!! This is not a bug per se, but rather a *feature* of acquisition. Spammish acquisition may be at times, when acquisition finds something we don't expect, but that's why names are important in Zope, and why acquisition is such a powerful ally in Zope programming. I have used this behavior successfully to create an index on a derived attribute, rather than on a simple named attribute. Simply create the index on the name of a script, and write a script that returns the value you want indexed. The catalog runs the script against each object it catalogs, rather than simply pulling the attribute with that name (pick a name for your script and index that is NOT an attribute name of your objects). This allows you to be creative in creating an index that contains exactly what you want, rather than be tied by name to an attribute. Uses? For example, the catalog will try to run the script against every object, but your script can return values only for the type of object that you want it to. Parsed xml problems

I am using parsed xml . I have a parsed xml file in a folder. Not good is it. Any suggestions how to fix. The work around I have is just to remove my xml file, apply the security then put the xml file back . although this works it is not the ideal solution. TAL Hotfix 2004-07-14 for Zope 2.7.0, 2.7.1

This hotfix product fixes a security bug in Page Templates. This fix ensures that values substituted in named slots in translated elements are properly encoded. If encoding is not desired and the source of the replacement text is trusted, the "structure" modifier can be used with the tal:content or tal:replace attribute to explicitly disable encoding. Affected Versions This fix applies to Zope 2.7.0 and 2.7.1. Zope versions 2.7.2 and newer already contain this fix, and do not require this hotfix. This fix also obsoletes 'Hotfix_20040713', so that should be uninstalled when this hotfix is installed. See the README.txt file provided with 'Hotfix_20040713' for instructions on removing that hotfix. Server-side redirecting?

I'm writing an ExternalMethod to handle some form data. Its job is simple - sanity-check the data (no, you can't schedule an event for June 31), and, if the data is good, pass it off to an SQL method. That all works correctly. The problem comes in with the error handling. If there's an error, what I'm trying to do is set a variable in the REQUEST object to contain a dictionary of information related to the error (the user's entered data, and error messages). It's then supposed to pass control back to the form, to redisplay the form with the data and error messages. I can't seem to get this working. If I do RESPONSE.redirect(), it sends the redirect to the client, so I lose the data stashed in my REQUEST. The form is generated by the index_html method of the folder; if I call the folder, and try to return the result, it complains about no __call__ method. If I return str(folder), it complains that it can't find the resource "Folder at ID <weirdnumber>". If I return folder.index_html(), it complains that it can't find the REQUEST object... it appears that the DTML method index_html completely loses its acquisition context (if I provide REQUEST and RESPONSE keyword variables, it then complains in my usage of _.getitem()) Is there a way I can reliably pass control around on the server? I've been able to succesfully do it when the destination is a page template, but no such luck with DTML methods. And I can't seem to find anything like DTML's render() function outside of DTML - is there some kind of generalized render() function somewhere I can use? or can I just access the one provided to DTML code somehow? restrictedTraverse without acquisition

Hi!!! i have this directory structure / |- clients/projects/abc/batches/001 |- wg/projects/cba/batches/100 now i am running a script python from 001 folder. now i want to check whether there is any folder called abc in wg/projects folder. i do this by a try statedment try: foo = context.restrictedTraverse("wg/projects/abc") catch: ... # create the directory It goes into the workgroup folder. But when it sees the project folder, through acquisition it finds the projects folder inside clients hierarchy first and finds that the folder abc is actually present. I want context.restrictedTraverse to behave in a way that it acquire wg but after that projects should not be acquired but should follow the wg. Ok, I solved it by installing 2.7.2-RC1. It seems that there is something wrong with the hotfix. portal_catalog or TextindexNG bug?

Hi Andreas, I think I've found the reason... I have the name 'country' in our metadata lists. On our website, I noticed we also have a ZSQL method named 'country' in a subfolder somewhere. It seems that the portal_catalog tries to call this ZSQL method when retrieving items with a 'country' attribute. If I delete the ZSQL method and update the Catalog, everything goes back to normal. Seems like a bug to me... If you name a ZSQL method with a name registered in your metadata list, the portal_catalog produces the traceback. I don't know whether it's a portal_catalog bug or a TextIndexNG bug. In general, also when I search in our Plone Site... The error came suddenly a few days ago... No clue why ...
