RE: [Zope] Programmatically deleting objects
by Horak, Karl 25 Mar '04

25 Mar '04

Lennart, Thanks for the breakthrough. Your solution needed only the following trivial rewrite in order to work: <A HREF="<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.absolute_url()">/goDelete?item=<dtml-var id>"> A call to the script with context.manage_delObjects(item) worked beautifully and now I'm just adding some fluff to display a confirmation msg and a link back to the original tree. Chris, thanks for all your input on this problem. This may not be the most elegant solution (and its not ZPT anyway) but I think I can close the file on this particular gottcha. The final dtml method that I put together might be of use to other newbies who want to manage objects with a tree-view: <table width="67%"> <tr> <dtml-tree branches="publicObjects" skip_unauthorized="1" sort="title_or_id"> <td width="49%"> <dtml-if expr="meta_type == 'Folder'"><B></dtml-if> <IMG SRC="<dtml-var icon>"> <dtml-var title_or_id> <dtml-if expr="meta_type == 'Folder'"></B></dtml-if> </td> <dtml-if expr="meta_type != 'Folder'"> <td width="17%"> <a href="<dtml-var tree-item-url>/manage_propertiesForm"> Change properties </a></td> <td width="17%"> <A HREF="<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.absolute_url()">/goDelete?item=<dtml-var id>"> Delete item</A> </td> </dtml-if> </dtml-tree> </tr> </table> The only other piece is a scrit that is called when building the tree. The tree branches are generated by the following Python script only slightly modified from the Zope.org archives: """ Script (Python) ID: publicObjects Returns sub-folders and DTML documents """ results=[] for object in context.objectValues(['Folder', 'File']): if object.hasProperty('title') and object.title: results.append(object) return results For completeness sake here is goDelete: """ Script (Python) ID: goDelete(item) Deletes object """ context.manage_delObjects(item) print '<B>' + item + '</B> deleted.' return printed -----Original Message----- From: Lennart Regebro [mailto:regebro@nuxeo.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 4:34 PM To: Horak, Karl; zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Programmatically deleting objects From: "Horak, Karl" <KEHORAK(a)sandia.gov> > <A HREF="goDelete?item=<dtml-var id>&delPath=<dtml-var > expr="aq_parent.aq_parent.id">.<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.id">"> > > <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.delPath.manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> > (This generates an AttributeError stating 'str' object has no attribute > 'manage_delObjects') Yes, delPath is a request variable, and therefore a string. It seems to me that you want to delete the item that you are viewing, there "here" object, so to speak. All the information you need to identify which object that is, is the path. You can probably pass <dtml-var absolute_url> as the item. That should be enough. Possibly you need "absolute_url(relative=1)", I'm not sure. > <dtml-call > expr="_.getitem(REQUEST.delPath).manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> I don't seem why you call an DTML method to run python code. Use a python script instead. In the pythonscript youshould be able to use restricted traverse to find the object item, get it's aq_parent, and call manage_delObjects on it. However, even this is total overkill. :-) <A HREF="<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.absolute_url()+'myDeleteScript?item='+id">"> should give you a link pointing to http://foo.com/the/parent/object/myDeleteScript?item=objectid The myDeleteScript then simply calls context.manage_delObjects(item) That should do it. Do you really want to use DTML?

zpt initial blank line

Sorry, false alarm! After reinstalling Zope and conservatively adding only necessary products to the instance_home this error does *not* show up anymore. Zope Still Crashes Daily
by Murray Pearson 25 Mar '04

25 Mar '04

I am having serious stability issues with Zope. I brought this up about a month ago and, based on very helpful advice, succeeded at setting up Apache in front of Zope. I was assured this would greatly increase stability by filtering out script-kiddie attacks. Alas, it hasn't. Zope still craps out at random, once a day or so. Might the malformed requests be coming in through port 8080 directly, crashing Zope that way? I can't shut off the port in Zope or Apache won't be able to communicate. However, I might be able to set up a packet filter that will stop traffic on port 8080 on the external NIC... for example. But I don't want to plow my way through a kludgey solution that does not address the actual source of the failures. In short, I don't know why I can't trust Zope. This is Bad News because I am trying to finish my first paid Zope contract and I can't deliver an unreliable product. Since Zope is extremely dependable to most people, I am apparently doing Something Wrong. Can anybody tell me if there is any particular problem with my setup? I'm running OpenBSD 3.4 on fairly basic machines: one an HP Pentium III, the other a no-name Athlon box. The operating system seems to have no problem with the hardware. On these I have installed Python 2.1.3 and Zope 2.6.1 and MySQL 3.23 and so on, all from OpenBSD packages. I compiled Apache 2 from source with mod_proxy, mod_http_proxy and mod_rewrite and it successfully routes content from Zope, but was returning Bad Gateway messages until I set it to ignore errors (is this normal? nobody mentioned it). My strategies from here: (1) Try another OS. I put FreeBSD on one machine, and although I did not get the whole thing running it appears that the software in the ports collection is the same as OpenBSD so I don't anticipate any benefit. I would like to hear OS suggestions... except those made by Microsoft. Would some flavour of Linux make my life any easier? (2) Upgrade the software. This will mean building from source and facing, if everything goes perfectly smoothly, hours and hours of compiling time on a P III. Again, this has no promise of helping and could turn into a big waste of time if they don't compile happily. Any help is appreciated! TIA, Murray

OK. I give up. I have searched for the answer to this for far too long. How do I access a single argument from a query string from in a TAL expression? Thanks in such high anticipation that I may soon explode. Dale Strickland-Clark

Someone has written a positive review of Zope over at Kuro5hin.org: <http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/3/21/184222/896> The responses so far tend to be from people who tried Zope and found it too confusing, big, and/or slow. -- Fred Yankowski fred(a)ontosys.com tel: +1.630.879.1312 OntoSys, Inc PGP keyID: 7B449345 fax: +1.630.879.1370 www.ontosys.com 38W242 Deerpath Rd, Batavia, IL 60510-9461, USA

Zope/Plone consultant needed, UK
by Anthony Willoughby 25 Mar '04

25 Mar '04

Hi I am looking for some technical consultancy in Zope, Python and Plone in the UK. Experience of deployment within an organisation, including integration with LDAP or Active Directory, would be an advantage. Would suit a freelance/independent consultant based in the UK ideally. If you are not based in the UK, you must be prepared to travel! Anthony Willoughby www.openwebsystems.com

External Editor & Content Type
by Elena Schulz 25 Mar '04

25 Mar '04

Hi, in a dtml-method I change the Content-Type with <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'text/css')">. If I open the method with external editor it opens with the dtml-editor as Content-Type dtml and not as css with the configured css-editor. If I am not wrong that type change was working with external editor 0.6. Is there a way to change the content-type that external editor 0.7.1 (for Win) will realize? -- Thanks for your answers, Elena

Zope Bible sample code
by Jesse Pavel 25 Mar '04

25 Mar '04

Hello, I bought the Zope Bible but then, like a fool, threw away the enclosed CD, thinking it just had old Zope installation files on it. Now, naturally, I'd like the sample code that was on it as well, but Wiley doesn't have it available for download from their web site. Would anyone be able, please, to send me a tar or zip of the sample code? Thanks a bunch, Jesse
