Marshalling Strings back to data type
by Chris Bruce 25 Mar '04

I am storing a STRING version of dictionary in db like: {'3_Professional Designation': ['Bookkeeper', 'QuickBooks Certified Pro Advisor'], '4_Products Supported': ['QuickBooks & QuickBooks Pro'], '1_QuickBooks Services': ['Software Installation', 'Software Support', 'Troubleshooting', 'Phone Consultations', 'Seminars', 'One to One Training', 'Payroll'], '2_Accounting Services': ['Bookkeeping ', 'Payroll'], '5_Platforms Supported': ['Windows']} Is there a way in Zope to type that back to a dict?

Chris, I've given up on using the ZMI's system of checkboxes named with object ids and calling the manage_delObjects:method from a submit button. Instead I'm now simply generating a URL that passes a querystring with the path to the item and the item name: <A HREF="goDelete?item=<dtml-var id>&delPath=<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.aq_parent.id">.<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.id">"> Thus, I have two variables, delPath = 'ORDlibrary.BC' (or whichever subfolder) is the container of the item to be deleted, item = 'filename.ext', which is the object's id. The goDelete method is some variation on: <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.delPath.manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> (This generates an AttributeError stating 'str' object has no attribute 'manage_delObjects') Or: <dtml-call expr="_.getitem(REQUEST.delPath).manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> (This generates a KeyError with an Error Value of 'ORDlibrary.BC') The odd thing is that using explicit strings as you pointed out in your suggestion works fine: <dtml-call expr="ORDlibrary.BC.manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> Why are literals working but not variables with string values? Finally, I've tried building the HREF as <A HREF="req?item=<dtml-var id>&delPathA=<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.aq_parent.id">&delPathB=<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.id">">, where goDelete now looks like: <dtml-call expr="_.getitem(REQUEST.delPathA)._.getitem(REQUEST.delPathB).manage_delObje cts([REQUEST.item])"> This repeatedly asks for user ID and password (BTW, goDelete has its proxy value set to Manager). This is the equivalent of the "spinning Zope" in my initial message. When my server admin captured the 8080 packets, we saw that the system was sending nothing acceptable for user ID/password and then generating a 401 error and repeating this process infinitely. Since this occurs on my standalone development machine as well as the firewall-Zope server production environment, it doesn't appear to be a virtual host/proxy passing problem. That said, I find that calls to SquishDot management functions and Zope manage_editProperties work on my testbed but not when they are moved onto the firewalled system. But that problem is for another day. Hey, DTML came first in The Fine Manual. I'll work on ZPT when the workload cools off a bit. ;-) Re: Python vs DTML method. I started out with all that "Do you really, really, really, truly want to delete such and so? Interface and just stuck with the DTML method when I tossed it out to simplify the problem. All this stuff is currently embedded in a tree method. "Here" is the top level and the object that's getting deleted is one of the leaves. Tree-item-url gives me all the info I need but manage_delObjects apparently wants to see only the id of the item to be deleted without any path info. And all the path info needs to be glued on the front to make mypath.myfolder.manage_delObjects. Looks like I'll spend tonight reading up on restricted traverse. Thanks for the tips. -----Original Message----- From: Lennart Regebro [mailto:regebro@nuxeo.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 4:34 PM To: Horak, Karl; zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Programmatically deleting objects From: "Horak, Karl" <KEHORAK(a)sandia.gov> > <A HREF="goDelete?item=<dtml-var id>&delPath=<dtml-var > expr="aq_parent.aq_parent.id">.<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.id">"> > > <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.delPath.manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> > (This generates an AttributeError stating 'str' object has no attribute > 'manage_delObjects') Yes, delPath is a request variable, and therefore a string. It seems to me that you want to delete the item that you are viewing, there "here" object, so to speak. All the information you need to identify which object that is, is the path. You can probably pass <dtml-var absolute_url> as the item. That should be enough. Possibly you need "absolute_url(relative=1)", I'm not sure. > <dtml-call > expr="_.getitem(REQUEST.delPath).manage_delObjects([REQUEST.item])"> I don't seem why you call an DTML method to run python code. Use a python script instead. In the pythonscript youshould be able to use restricted traverse to find the object item, get it's aq_parent, and call manage_delObjects on it. However, even this is total overkill. :-) <A HREF="<dtml-var expr="aq_parent.absolute_url()+'myDeleteScript?item='+id">"> should give you a link pointing to http://foo.com/the/parent/object/myDeleteScript?item=objectid The myDeleteScript then simply calls context.manage_delObjects(item) That should do it. Do you really want to use DTML?

dtml-calendar question
by Chris Larsen 24 Mar '04

24 Mar '04

Hi Zope Ppl, I hope this is the right list to ask this dtml-calendar question.. here goes anyway: I am using calendar 1.0.16 integrated with sql. It works like a champ thanks to some slight modification of Ed Colmar's nice "StarRave" product. It's getting pretty tricky now though b/c would like to have a link to submit a form of, display results from, and submit a different form for all Sundays, and a different one for all Saturdays. I don't see where in the README or anywhere that allows me to select records based on day of week. Does anyone know how i should go about this? Thanks, Chris

RE: [Zope] Newbie Q: Error creating LocalFS

I've had some other weird behaviour with LocalFS, I'll investigate a bit further, see if the problem is mine, platform related, Zope related or LocalFS related. And post on this list whatever I come up with. Chris, thanks for you help, and next time I'll provide error logs, trace logs etc. instead of just "gibberish". expected string or Unicode object, ImplicitAcquirerWrapper found

I must be missing something... help! I have a python script called logoName.py, as follows: return 'logo.jpg' then I'm trying to use that in a DTML method. Mailboxer Question
by paichi＠comcast.net 24 Mar '04

24 Mar '04

I setup a Mailboxer 3.2 mailing list, and I've noticed the following problem with broken threads. Users can submit their original e-mails to a given list, and these are archived correctly. However, replies to these submissions are not threaded to their source e-mails, but rather become a new thread. In fact, any reply to any thread gets grouped into a single thread on my archive. The only thing I can figure is something is pulling out from the header "Re: [Open IB...]" from each received e-mail, and is using that to group this to create a thread full of discrete replies. I'm using Python 2.3.3, RH 9, Zope 2.7, Mailboxer 3.2, and Apache 2.0.49 as a frontend w/ the mod_proxy features enabled. The MTA is Postfix 1.1.12-1. The entry to in the /etc/postfix/aliases file reads as: testme: "|/etc/postfix/smtp2zope.py http://openib.org:8080/testme/manage_mailboxer 20000" The page can be accessed at http://openib.org/testme Thanks for any help.
