That may not be true if glibc has been built with NPTL and you are using Linux 2.6 kernel and Python that you've compiled yourself. I'm getting very good performance on this combo. On the other hand, if it's working for you, best to leave it alone. If anyone knows of any software to benchmark thread performance, do let me know. -----Original Message----- From: John Poltorak [mailto:jp@warpix.org] Sent: Wednesday, March 17, 2004 18:15 To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope startup errors On Wed, Mar 17, 2004 at 09:12:56AM +0000, Chris Withers wrote: > John Poltorak wrote: > >>Chris - why are you on OS/2, btw? > > > > I remember Lord Gates telling me, many years ago, that OS/2 was going to > > be the biggest program of all time and I believed him ;-)... > > > > I guess I just stuck with it since I didn't want to be on the upgrade > > treadmill, didn't like viruses and wanted to be in control of what my > > computer was doing rather than having mysterious upgrades being > > auto-installed. > > So go for Linux or MacOS X and end your pain on suffering. FWIW, I'm on Win2K, > don't have any autoupdating going on and don't use any M$ software apart from > Windows and Office, so don't have too many viri to contend with... I actually like OS/2, and unlike Linux it has had threading built into it from day one and it works pretty well. Personally I would not be surprised if Zope running on OS/2 outperformed Zope running on Linux using the same hardware. Besides that, more and more open source software is now buildable on OS/2 so there is little point in moving away. In fact XFree86 4.4.0 became available for OS/2 before Linux, AFAIK. Now it looks as though I can build Zope 2.7.0 straight from source without requiring any patches at all, so there is much less suffering involved than there used to be. As for virii, I am not aware of a single one which affects OS/2. 'Security through obscurity' is quite a useful motto ;-)... > Chris > > -- > Simplistix - Content Management, Zope & Python Consulting > - http://www.simplistix.co.uk > -- John _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Trying to use CookieCrumbler 1.1 with Zope 2.7.0 and having trouble with logging out
by Ken Causey 19 Mar '04

I'm trying to use CookieCrumbler 1.1 with Zope 2.7.0 and am having trouble with logging out. I previously used CookieCrumbler 0.5 with Zope 2.6.1 with the my current objects and everything worked fine. Basically I'm getting the error: Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 100, in publish Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 40, in call_object Module Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings, line 306, in __call__ Module Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings, line 343, in _bindAndExec Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 318, in _exec Module None, line 7, in logout - <PythonScript at /logout> - Line 7 Module Products.CookieCrumbler.CookieCrumbler, line 326, in logout AttributeError: logoutabsolute_url Clearly the error is a little odd but the value of my CookieCrumbler instance's 'Logout page ID' property is 'logout' which is the ID of a 'Script (Python)'. My guess is that Python Methods are no longer implementing absolute_url(). Has the implementation of Python Methods changed significantly since 2.6.1? Thanks, Ken Causey

changing http port with -w
by Anton Woldhek 19 Mar '04

19 Mar '04

Hi everybody, im new to zope. Ive got this small issue to solve. I need to run the http of zope on port 40000 (because the admin lost the password to the router here and that happens to be one of the open ports here). I am running zope as a service on a win2k box. (latest stable version). Ive tried the -w flag in the runzope.bat in the bin dir. And ive also added the flag as a parameter to the windows service. Unfortunatly, neither work. Can anybody suggest a solution to this problem? Thank you Anton

Newbie Q: Insert Word Files into Table Cell?
by Kevin Jones 19 Mar '04

19 Mar '04

Hi- I just joined the list and am a relative newbie.... I want to place a MSWord file into a table cell. But I *do not* want a link-- I want the file itself to open automatically and look like the original word document (I don't want/need to edit the file). I got it to work several ways, but the file has a multitude of symbols, extraneous text, lines, etc, mixed in with the text. This seems like it ought to be easy, it works fine if I place an <a href=...> link in the table cell. Any help greatly appreciated, much thanks in advance! Kevin

Zope and IIS
by kokoko 19 Mar '04

19 Mar '04

I am totally new to Zope. I dunno if it suits my problem. I have an ASP based app running on IIS at port 80. I have another web-app (Java) running on a different server at different port, but on the same machine IIS is present. I will have a few links on my ASP app, clicking on it will take me to the Java web-app. since the Java web-app is not running on port 80, it will not be accessible to the outside world unless I open another port in my firewall. So, I want to use Zope to redirect the URLs whichever is relevant to my Java web -app. Can I do it using Zope, if so, please give me some pointers. Thanks, Vid. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - More reliable, more storage, less spam http://mail.yahoo.com

--prefix not working
by John Poltorak 19 Mar '04

Whilst building Zope 2.7.0 using the '--prefix' option to configure, I find the install is ignoring the option. Can anyone suggest how I can find out why? The Makefile does have it set correctly. -- John

how to upload a lot of files as Tal (Page Template)
by frasse 19 Mar '04

19 Mar '04

Hi I try to use Webdav and FTP to upload Tal files (Page Template) to Zope but when I do that Zope sees my Tal file as DTML Files (Sorry Objects). I have to use Webdav and FTP because I upload a lot of files every time. A night job does it for me. I can not use Zope manager to do that because it just manages one file each time. Thx Frasse

Use of map() with string formatting in SiteAccess included in Zope 2.7.0 with Python 2.3.3
by Ken Causey 19 Mar '04

19 Mar '04

I'm not sure what has changed but I found that I was getting errors about not enough arguments for the format string at line 103 of SiteAccess/SiteRoot.py when I tried to edit the properties of an existing instance. Investigation indicated map() was returning a list rather than a tuple and that the string formatting didn't like that. Calling tuple() on the result of the call to map() seems to have fixed the error. Ken Causey

python backup script
by Marcel Maré 19 Mar '04

19 Mar '04

I've created a python script that backs up zope/plone sites to the local machine. The same effect could probably be done with some crafty shell scripting, but I'm not familiair with that. This python script might be useful for some other people on the list. To use it you need to have Curl on your system (could be recoded to use httplib I think). Have fun! Marcel Maré WebToTheMax
