1) Is the Zope Book available in downloadable HTML form? 2) Can I (and are there reasons why I should not) get Zserver to work on Port 80. I don't want to confuse my users. 3) ZPT vs DHTML. Straight away I am confused by this, and I need to know which to focus my attention on. I get the impression that the preferred order is ZPT, DHTML Methods, DHTML Templates. I came to Zope from programming in Python, if that helps. My plan is to start with ZPT - is that correct? 4) Is here a more appropriate place to ask beginners questions? thanks, Eddie.

webdav interface

Is Zope's webdav interface documented anywhere, such that I could find the necessary methods that I must write to webdav-enable a custom class? The situation is such that my product will define a single Zope class. An application will use only one instance of this class, which will pull the strings of a relational database and a file system, rather than objects in the ZODB. The relational data dynamically defines the navigational structure of the documents stored on disk. Thus, the webdav behaviors that my class automatically inherits will not work for me, BUT I assume that if I override Zope's default webdav methods I can provide similar functionality. I essentially need to know the webdav interface, i.e. what methods Zope calls to list folder contents, retrieve a file, lock a file, etc, etc. I would be grateful even if someone would just point me to the particular file(s) where this code is implemented in Zope...

Zope Web Serving Options?

I have a zope 2.6.1 server running on windows 2000 and using the zope www server to run an intranet. I want to host out a public site with nearly the same software (zope,plone,etc) on windows. I need to decide what the best approach is. Do I use something like VHM and run Zope www server or should I install Apache 2 on Windows 2000? Any ideas on pros and cons of each? Performance is an issue so I would guess apache could be good for images,etc. Any other ideas on using the Zope server for a medium to low traffic public site? What about security of running public and private sites on same box?

recover from POSKeyError after corruption by pack()ing bug

Hi! I have a serious problem: I think about a week ago my database was damaged by this nasty pack()ing bug. Unfortunately this error was not noticeable until my zope restart yesterday. :-( The consequence is a POSKeyError (POSKeyError: 0000000000000009) which prevents zope from starting. I tried to repair the database with fsrecover.py (from zope-2.6.3 and zope-2.6.4rc1), and it deleted some invalid transactions but it did not solve the problem. Then I tried the instructions on http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/1054240694, but had no success at all because I got again a POSKeyError. *g* I used fsrefs.py on the Data.fs and the first 2 error it found was: --- cut here --- oid 0x4 AccessControl.User.UserFolder last updated: 2004-01-16 14:08:02.781121, tid=0x3526BB00BDDB9CCL refers to invalid object: oid 0x9 missing: 'Persistence.PersistentMapping' oid 0xf17 AccessControl.User.UserFolder last updated: 2004-01-16 14:08:14.036884, tid=0x3526BB03BE40544L refers to invalid object: oid 0x1162 missing: 'Persistence.PersistentMapping' --- cut here --- After these 2 errors follow about 24Kb of errors or references to missing objects or objects that could not be loaded. It seems to me, that some very basic objects were destroyed a week ago. Of course all backups during the last week contain the damaged database. :-( It is really a pity, that the consequences of this database damage shows not up until the next zope restart... Is there any possibility to recover the database or to "extract" the transactions of the last 8 days and to prevent the complete loss of data in that time? Has anybody an idea, which I could try? Revisionmanager Bugs for Win!?

Hi Phillip, trying to get RevisionManager 1.3.2 running on my Zope2.7/WinXP(ActivePython 2.3.2) I get some problems: 1. the "/tmp/RevisionManager-" + module.filename path cannot be created with os.mkdir(import_dir) on Windows as its a dir/subdir in importModule I think the easiest solution is just make one dir out of the two. The following change works on my machine. (or maybe use os.makedirs()) -- snip #import_dir = "/tmp/RevisionManager-" + module.filename import_dir = os.path.join(INSTANCE_HOME, 'Temp_RevisionManager-%s' % module.filename) #my patch os.mkdir(import_dir) -- snip 2. I got some problems with missing bobobase_modification_time attribute in writeToFS for some object instances: So I did the following quick-hack without a deep look in writeToFS, which worked for me: -- snip obj_last_modified = 0.0 if hasattr(obj, 'bobobase_modification_time'): obj_last_modified = float(obj.bobobase_modification_time().timeTime()) -- snip 3. I get conflicts with the following method in another Product: FileSystemSite.FSPythonScript.FSPythonScript.document_src() in _get_source: if hasattr(obj, 'document_src'): result = mapply(obj.document_src, keyword=kw) I guess its a nameconflict, but I didn't have the time to look to it much closer.
