Python 2.3.2 compiled with --without-doc-strings

the --without-doc-strings configure option for python 2.3.2 means: The interpreter can be compiled without any docstrings for the built-in functions and modules by supplying --without-doc-strings to the configure script. This makes the Python executable about 10% smaller, but will also mean that you can't get help for Python's built-ins. (Contributed by Gustavo Niemeyer.) Refreshing modules imported into external methods

I'm having trouble getting Zope to refresh modules imported into my external methods. I've googled at length, read the fine manual, and searched the list archives, all to no avail. Here is the situation: external method file foo.py (located in /path_to_Zope/Extensions): import bar def foo(): return 'foo' + bar.baz() Python module bar.py (located on my PYTHONPATH): def baz(): return 'bar' Now if I look at http://localhost:8080/foo, I see 'foobar', and if I edit foo.py to change 'foo' to 'fu', my browser (after refreshing) displays 'fubar'. The problem is that when I edit bar.py and change 'bar' to 'baz', I still see 'fubar', not 'fubaz'. In other words, Zope incorporates changes to my external method (foo.py), but not to its imported module (bar.py). It seems that Zope is caching the result of importing bar.py, because when I restart Zope the changes to bar.py show up in my browser. Restarting Zope after every change to an external module is a possible but extremely cumbersome solution to my problem. Does anyone know how to get Zope to re-import modules that have changed? I tried removing the Python bytecode (bar.pyc in this case), but that didn't work. I might be able to avoid this problem by developing a Zope product and forcing my method to be volatile using _v_, but many of the modules I want to import are for general use and are not Zope-specific. ZServer crash, Zope 2.6.2b3 RH9

RH9 has had major problems with programs that use threads. I just experienced a server crash (ouch!) which looks like it may be due to RH9 threading, but I am not sure. And, of course, there's not much to go on in the logs, there's no chance of reproducing the situation, etc. Basically Zope died at line 241 in ZServer/HTTPResponse.py. This is in the __init__ method of the ChannelPipe class (and "Experimental" pipe from ZPublisher to a ZServer Channel). The error was ZServer Server Error: exception.TypeError, attribute name must be a string: file: $SOFTWAREHOME/ZServer/HTTResponse.py line: 241 repeated many times. ZServer eventually tries to close the channel (uncaptured Python exception), but the error persists. Shutdown of Zope was normal and restarting cleared the problem. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior? I'll file a bug report on it if it happens again.

When calling the method defined my product, I come from the URL: http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/Add_Author.html So, if I stay in the same HTTP request, shoudn't it be http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/Add_Author.html when calling the python method to return the page template ? -nico

IVR and Zope

Hi, Any experience around on an IVR (voice server for phone) using Zope based logic and voice media ? I've no experience in that field and dunno where how to start investigating on that problem. External Editor & Homesite+

Hi List, Am using External Editor - but with "Homesite+.exe" (as bundled with DW MX). The editor works fine, but will not edit two files at once - on reading the docs, this may be because the name of the executable has changed from "homesite.exe" or "homesite5.exe" to "homesite+.exe", while the Homesite plugin for EE is looking for the old filenames. Is anyone aware of a workaround for this? Mistery login problem

Hi everyone, this is my first time on the list and i'm quite a newbie on zope, but i have a task of moving a plone site from one server to an other. this is done after an attack on the main server. i install zope i install CFM i install plone run zope and everything works great! i can create plone sites and manage them (enter to the ZMI at the root of my site) i install the extra products and put the database in. now, i can see my sites and all their content :) but if i enter http://mydomain/MySite/manage i get the sites login screen. because of the nature of the attack on the server, i had to remove all the user accounts, and just leave one user, me. in the database there are 2 plone sites, but i need to add a site root too both of them for the images to work with the apache rewrite rules how do i get access to the sites? i have manage and owner roles in the root zope site! the properties are all set right (i think) in the security section at the root of zope. and an other very weird thing is that i get a strange error when i try to make a new superuser! -- [root@mypc Zope-2.6.2-linux2-x86]# python zpasswd.py -u admin -p test inituser Traceback (innermost last): File "zpasswd.py", line 200, in ? if __name__=='__main__': main(sys.argv) File "zpasswd.py", line 152, in main access_file.write(username + ':' + File "zpasswd.py", line 33, in generate_passwd encoding=encoding.upper() AttributeError: 'string' object has no attribute 'upper' -- and i get the same thing with -- python zpasswd.py -u admin -p test access -- i am just totaly stumpt by this, and would really appreciate any hinters thanks for your time and have a nice day Tim Fletcher _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

help external method and security issue

Hello, We are using a Python External Method to send a "post" request to a dtml-method in python using the httplib library. Have the Zope with scripts module ?

Hello ! I be used to modular programming. Units/Modules/Classes. In Zope can I create a module with some functions ? How can I do it ? Or I need to be create Product for this ? How ? Without softlimit zope seems to try to grab a lot of memory untill all the threads have started and then the memory usage drops down back to what is normal. Database is aroung 600 MB, which is nothing bad since on another instance on another machine I run 2.6.2 with Pyhon 2.2.3 and 1,5 GB filestorage and in startup zope doesn't behave in similar way. I tried to search yesterday for information on how much Zope should be reserving and using memory in startup, but did not find any relevant information.
