Returning a PageTemplate within a Disk-based Product always returns the aq_parent, not the ZPT itself

Hi there, I am developing a disk based python product for Zope. I only have one class which inherits from the base class Folder. Within that class I have defined a method "add_author". Inside this method I want to return a Page Template like this: # get the page template object input_form = getattr(self.authors, 'Add_Author.html') # put a dictionary into the REQUEST object msg={} msg['a'] = 'msg a' msg['b'] = 'msg b' REQUEST['msg'] = msg # return the page template return input_form(REQUEST) 'authors' is a normal Zope folder. In the 'authors' folder I have created a Page Template called 'Add_Author.html'. I do not want to use REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect() to return the Page Template, because I need to pass a dictionary 'msg' which I put in the REQUEST object. So I use return input_form(REQUEST) to return the Page Template 'Add_Author.html'. My Problem is: When returning the Page Template with return input_form(REQUEST), Zope does not show the URL "http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/Add_Author.html" but the URL "http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/". Can anybody tell me, why Zope returns the URL "http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/" insted of "http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/Add_Author.html" which is the absolute_url() of the Page Template? How do I get Zope to show the proper URL: "http://localhost:8080/MyProductInstance/authors/Add_Author.html" ? Thank you in advance, -nico

Invalidating object(s) in the Zope RAM Cache

Hi, Sorry in advance if this should go to another list. Some background: We have built a content management system on top of Zope Products (incl. CMF) and a custom product for storing the actual content. Because our site is quite large, has a lot of visitors, and gets many, many requests per day, we have a Zope RAM cache set-up to "lighten the load". Generally speaking, the cache saves us, as most of our content isn't sticky, and when edits are made, the cache has normally been invalidated. However some of our content, like article indexes, need to be as up-to-date as possible and the cache is getting in the way. So, the question is: Is there a way that I can invalidate an object from the Zope RAM cache using the Zope API? I did have a brief look in some of the available docs, but didn't find anything... The setHeader() function doesn't really return anything (=None), and dtml-var (unlike dtml-call) will include whatever is returned in the output. I'd still keep <dtml-var "u''"> in there. It may work fine now, but I think you may have trouble with some documents where Japanese or Unicode text shows up further into the document; at that point ZPublisher may already have started writing something out and by that time it's too late to switch the encoding. If RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type', 'text/html; charset=WHATEVER') isn't done somewhere, then ZPublisher probably wouldn't know which character encoding to use. Also (something I forgot), I believe you have to output a Unicode character early in the page rendering process in order to trigger this automatic Unicode-encoding functionality of the ZPublisher. Try putting this first in your DTML method: <dtml-var "RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type', 'text/html; charset=WHATEVER')" ><dtml-var "u''" ><dtml-var standard_html_header> ... If it works, move it into your standard_html_header. Regards, -- Bjorn

URL Hell

Hello list, I have a database with a table full of customers and one of the fields in the database contains the customer's website. I have a ZSQL method that gets the data then a Page Template. The part of the Page Template that renders the web page is as follows <p>Webpage: <a tal:attributes="href rdata/webpage" tal:content="rdata/webpage">webpage</a> </p> Now if I view this in a web browser it takes me to this link http://my_ip_address:8080/plone_instance/the_url_i_want_it_to_take_me_to (eg www.foo.com <http://www.foo.com/> ) How do I stop it putting the plone instance in front of my webpage? Apache being troublesome (correction of typo)

Hello, I'm a new user to Zope and I've got Apache more or less configured to work as a proxy, but it works only for requests in the top level of a particular domain. My httpd.conf is thus: <VirtualHost 216.127.74.118> ServerName external_name.com RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/(.*) \ http://www.external_name.com:8080/internal_name.com/www/$1 [P] </VirtualHost> Requests for (say) www.external_name/img/img.gif get rewritten as referring to www.external_name.com:8080/img/img.gif which isn't really useful. Whilst this is strictly speaking an Apache issue and not Zope, I'm sure I'm not the first to come across this problem with Apache proxying to Zope. mod_rewrite was compiled into httpd especially for Zope, so the above is my entire experience with it. Any hints very much appreciated!

Hey there Bjorn -- Finally found the time to try out dump_obj, and it's showing me that everything *should* be stored correctly in Unicode. Furthermore, the properties page itself (sample attached) does correctly identify the input as UTF-8. However, the results of my simple dtml method still show question marks, even when I look at the source of the generated page (attached, along with the results of dump_obj). Given that the dtml-method result page *source* shows question marks in place of proper Japanese, it suggests to me that something isn't returning properly. Perhaps some intermediary function is not Unicode-aware and fills in the non-ascii chars with question marks? Thanks too for your Plone suggestion. I'm wading through the Plone and Archetype documentation, but it's a bit thin on the right kind of detail for a Plone/Zope newbie like me. I appreciate your time in helping me out. help with restrictedTraverse

Hi everybody, The task I am trying to accomplish is to be able to call an object(it could be a dtml method, python script, php document, etc), given its path as a string parameter. Let's say my directory structure looks like this: /-+-Plone-+-homepage +-reports-+-Site1 +-Site2-+-myObject +-... +-... I need to call myObject, which path is '/Plone/reports/Site2/', from any other directory within the directory structure, but at this time I'm using homepage. Browsing the mailing list I found that I could use restrictedTraverse, so I created an External Method getObject under the homepage directory with the following code: def getObject( self ): return self.restrictedTraverse('/Plone/reports/Site2/myObject') myObject in this case is a php document that contains: <?php include "http://2ksvr/ploneSupp/lines.php?wk=2002-06-01"; ?> Now using the External Method from the homepage's index_html: <dtml-var getObject> This is what I get, instead of the chart that this object displays: <?php include "http://2ksvr/ploneSupp/lines.php?wk=2002-06-01"; ?> I also tried creating a python script with the following code: return container.restrictedTraverse('/Plone/pig_reports/test_farrowing/crChart') but the script returns this: <?php include "http://2ksvr/ploneSupp/lines.php?wk=2002-06-01"; ?> What am I doing wrong?
