FYI: Zope 2.6.1 beta 1 today...
by Brian Lloyd 10 Dec '03

10 Dec '03

Hi all - We're planning on releasing a Zope 2.6.1 b1 today, and I wanted to give the dev folks a heads-up and let people know the plan for getting to 2.6.1 final. The release today will contain some ZODB / ZEO fixes as well as the datetime fix and some other fixes added since 2.6.0. We will be having a "bug day" next Tuesday, and the goal will be that those fixes will also go into the Zope-2_6-branch to be included in a 2.6.1 beta 2 to be release hopefully around the end of next week. Assuming there are no issues with the b2 release, we'll plan on making it final a week or so after that for a late xmas present :) This schedule should also provide enough time for the valiant volunteers working on the 2.6.1 version of the Zope Book to finalize things for the release. Zope consultants in the UK
by John Hobson 10 Dec '03

10 Dec '03

I am looking to see what the range and level of professional zope consultancy/support is in UK, if any. If anyone knows names and contact addresses of any firms that offer these sort of services could you let me know. Also are there any recruitment websites where you could look for UK programmers with zope/python experience? On a more general note, what is the uptake and usage of zope like in the UK? From what I can tell the most enthusiastic take-up has been in Germany. Re: [Zope] Redirecting to an "under construction" page

Thanks Dennis. I dunno whether I'd call it simpler, but it would definitely be useful in some cases. It certainly is satisfying to take advantage of python's libraries to make a server-from-scratch when one is called for. =Pual At 12:47 PM 12/9/2003, you wrote: >There's another, simpler approach. Re: [Zope-dev] ZOPE + SSL

Zope behind a gateway server capable of SSL is the most common, and best solution. Setting it up isn't any different from setting up a virtual host behind a gateway server as documented in the Zope Book. WRT the use of gateway HTTP servers being abnormal ... its not. ZServer isn't a particularly robust or compliant HTTP 1.1 server, and it needs to be protected by a gateway server which has taken those things into account, but ZServer is adequate for acting as a persistent front-end for your publishable data which is something too specific to be handled by a gateway server like squid or apache. Also, Please read the list charters[1] before you post to them to ensure you use the right list for questions of this nature. -- Jamie Heilman http://audible.transient.net/~jamie/ "I was in love once -- a Sinclair ZX-81. RE: [Zope] searching and serving large textfiles ~120 Mb
by Lee J. McAllister 10 Dec '03

We're handling something similar, most of our files are in the 60-80Mb range and in varying formats from plain text to MS-Word to PDF. We're just getting into the testing phases now so I'm not certain if the performance will be noticeable different under load or not but it's food for thought at least. We're storing the files on the filesystem with an ExtFile type Product and using TextIndexNG2 to index the fulltext of the documents into Zope. The theory being that we can minimize the bloat to the ZODB by only storing the data needed for the searches in the ZODB and keeping the actual file contents out on the file system. Someone with a better working knowledge of Zope might be able to give you a theoretical guestimate on the performance differences, if any, of storing/serving large objects internally vs externally. Using all_meta_types correctly
by Terry Hancock 09 Dec '03

09 Dec '03

I'm trying to limit the "add" menu in a folderish object as part of my product, and I seem to be missing something. I've added the following lines to my object's class definition: all_meta_types = ( {'name':'Narya-Topic', 'action':'manage_addTopicForm'}, {'name':'Narya-Thread', 'action':'manage_addThreadForm'} ) meta_types = all_meta_types based on information I was able to find by searching on zope.org (but it's very sparse). And there's an example in App/Product.py which looks very similar to this. But, when I try to use the resulting add menu, I get a "Not Found" message on 'manage_addTopicForm'. When I remove these lines, and use the unlimited add menu, it directs me not to: myfolder/manage_addTopicForm but to myfolder/manage_addProduct/Narya/manage_addTopicForm obviously mirroring the Python syntax: myfolder.manage_addProduct['Narya'].manage_addTopicForm() which I've already gotten used to using in my product code. Can anybody tell me what I should change here? If I wanted to tell it to access the latter URL, would I use Python or URL syntax? OR, is this telling me I have something more important wrong? How should this work? Cheers, Terry -- Terry Hancock ( hancock at anansispaceworks.com ) Anansi Spaceworks http://www.anansispaceworks.com

Pyperl installation with ActivePython - still having problems
by Gabriela López Ruiz 09 Dec '03

09 Dec '03

Hello, I tried other way with ActivePython, I looks simpler but here is my history: Ive installed ActivePython 2.2.3 in my Zope server to prove the compatibility between them and to prove the possibility of calling AcrivePerls functions from Zope. I had to install 2.2.3 because Python Package Manager is not included in version 2.3.2. So I have on question: Is there any other module like pyppm in 2.3.2 which could be used to install a module in ActivePython 2.3.2? Ive been looking for pyperl module, but I couldnt find it in the PyPI Url. Ive read Pyperl is the module which can give me the possibility of calling Perl from Python. I dont know if there is any other one. On the other hand, I tried to use pyppm from my 2.2.3 installation, Im behind a firewall so I configured HTTP_proxy, HTTP_proxy_user and HTTP_proxy_pass environment variables but Im still having problems. I get the following error when I type the command pyppm install pyperl: **************************************************************** PPM>install pyperl Install package pyperl? (Y/n): y Installing package 'pyperl'... Connecting to SOAP server ActiveState Package Repository... ERROR: (7, 'getaddrinfo failed') **************************************************************** >From the browser I can connect the SOAP server and I can download the pyppmserver.pl but this is empty. I dont know what else I can do so I will be very thanked if someone can give me a piece of advice. Thanks in advance. CoreBlog
by Kate Legere 09 Dec '03

I'm setting up a blog now and all appears to be fine. I'd like to make a change to the interface though so that: The user clicks a link on the index page which takes them to: blog/manage_addEntryForm (no problems here) Then when they add the entry it DOESN'T take them to manage_workspace but back to the index page. However, I don't see to be able to find the source page for the manage_addEntryForm so that I can put it in. Does anyone know where this page is 'kept'? Kate
